Nope. (Happy Valentine’s Day!)

Canasta’s still pregnant, still playing. Still getting wider.

“Harassing me until I give birth in self-defense has never worked for you before, lady. WON’T YOU BE MY VALENTINE?!”

Good night innernets. (Canasta)

I woke up every half hour to check on Canasta through the night because I just had a feeling… BUT NOPE. I’m glad you’re having a good time, Canasta. (She’s always a laydee.)

“Where ARE they, already?!”

Charlie and Canasta playing! (Usually their playing consists of a lot of Canasta chasing Charlie around the room.) She no longer hisses at him. That’s progress!

Canasta catching sparkleballs… and trying to scratch!

Paws up, y’all.

“It’s breakfast time, not birthin’ time!”

Former fosters Amber (formerly Ambercup, one of the Squash Bugs from 2015), Stardust, and Phoenix (Mercury’s daughters, from 2017) have formed a cuddle puddle to keep warm (it is colllld and icy here in Alabama right now!) (Thanks, Debra!) (I hope all y’all out there are keeping warm too!)

“What YOU want, lady?” Canasta is practicing her Dead Armadillo pose.

In case you were wanting a comparison pic of Canasta’s belly next to previous mamas (and the number of kittens each had).

Fun fact: some cats gestate for 70 days before they give birth. Canasta’s been with us for 37 days. JUST SAYIN’.

The belly is really going now! I think I’ve identified which kitten is gonna be the troublemaker.

I’m sure no one finds this as fascinating as I do (Fred finds it deeply boring), but here’s the chart of previous mama kitties we’ve had, arranged by date. It includes the time lapsed between when we got them and when they gave birth (Canasta is currently at 37 days), the number of kittens they had, and the time of day they had their first kitten. Let me just put out there that I have an 8 am dentist appointment on Thursday, so that’d be the least convenient time for kittens to be born, so we can just about count on it! (Or not. WHATEVER, CANASTA.)

I meant to share this picture on Valentine’s Day and then got caught up in all the Snapchat filters with Canasta. Here we have the adorable Mr. Mustachio (formerly Davy Crockett) and Kiki (formerly Calamity Jane), two of the Vittles kittens from just a couple of months ago. They’re clearly each others’ valentines. (She has remained teeny tiny, but doesn’t hesitate to kick his butt all over the place. Tiny but mighty!) (Thanks, Sarah!)

“Lady, I have no kittens for you today. Check back next week.”

The Ears of Annoyance on full display.

(Nobody tell her I took this picture, she will kill me dead.)

We’re working on Canasta’s core strength and Charlie’s high jumps. (Every evening before bed, Fred and Charlie and I go in and hang out with Canasta for a while. Every evening – though I haven’t been able to catch it on video yet – Charlie flops down on the floor and looks up at Da Bird* and gives it the blinkety-blink Eyes of Lurve until Fred gets it down. He LOVES that thing.)

*Da Bird is made by GoCat and you can find it online and I THINK I’ve seen it in Petsmart and Petco, but don’t hold me to it.

Accidental video – I had no idea I was even making a video (I was taking pictures, one of which I posted a little while ago.) The end, where I lift her down off the shelf is for some reason CRACKING ME UP. Her calm, curious little face as I lift her down – CAREFUL NOT TO PUT PRESSURE ON HER BELLY – and her little feet and that big ol’ belly and my GROAN as I lift her entire weight is killing me. So much that I had to add it in again in slow motion at the end.

Good night innernets. (Canasta)

Okay, Canasta. I’m going to my dentist appointment. Don’t have those kittens while I’m gone! I want to be here to HELP!”
“Sure, lady.”
(Having gobbled down her breakfast, she seems more inclined to take a nap than give birth. BUT HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL.)

“What you so annoyed about, lady? You told me NOT to have them while you were gone! I didn’t have ’em! Today’s not your day, and tomorrow’s not looking good for you either!”

Bath time. (You don’t want to see her dirty butt, believe me. After I took this pic, I cleaned it. Which she does NOT LIKE.)

Good night innernets.

Play time with Canasta & Charlie She does not seem inclined to give birth at this juncture.

Look at that belly go! #AlienBelly

Good night innernets. ❤️

I guess I can see the resemblance to April the Giraffe… (No kittens yet. CLEARLY.)

Hooray, hooray! Queen Bunny has found her castle!!!!

Bunny was the mother to the Fluffles, our fosters last summer. She was rescued the day before Easter last year after showing up in someone’s garage. They thought she was a skunk, so set out a (humane) trap; she was so hungry that she was lured in by the berries they’d baited the trap with. When they realized she wasn’t a skunk, she came to Forgotten Felines. Bunny was horribly matted and when Michelle and Brittany started shaving her, they realized she might be pregnant. 10 minutes later she started having kittens, 6 of them, though unfortunately one passed away a few days later. She had a neck wound (caused by her digging at her neck to release the mat there) that has finally healed (this picture is from when she was with us – her fur has since grown in and she’s floofy and fabulous.)

She’s been at Michelle’s house since last July (Michelle is who I foster under), making it clear that she has no use for other cats. Finally the right person came along, and last night she went to a WONDERFUL home! In no time, she was snuggled up on her new Dad’s lap watching TV. Talk about a well-deserved happy ending! Happy life, sweet girl! ❤️❤️❤️

I apologize in advance for the fact that I “discovered” the slow-motion feature on my phone. Here’s the belly in slow-mo.

Did I mention that I recently discovered the slow-motion feature on my phone? Here are some Charlie leaps, slowed way down. Also, please admire Canasta’s hunting skills. Belly in the air, she still caught that thing!

“How YOU doin’?”

Good night innernets.
