Friday was a Very Big Day for the kittens. Not ONLY did I snatch up Calliope and cart her off to be spayed, but later on, after they’d exhausted themselves playing like crazy things, I brought in a visitor…

Cassandra said “WHAT IS GOING ON?!”

She did NOT approve.

Zeus said “Oh, hi.”

Pandora said “I better put on my floof suit, just in case.” and Daphne said “?”

Magoo took a moment to be a loaf. (Magoo loaf! My favorite!)

The tilted head from Pandora is SO CUTE.

Magoo said “I remember this bed.”

He relaxed for a bit and Cassandra said “When is he gonna leave?” (He eventually did.)

BUT THEN.

Mama came home.

And she smelled funny.

“It looks like Mama and it sounds like Mama, but IT SMELLS LIKE STRANGER,” Daphne said floofily.

She gave The Stranger the ol’ snifferoo.

By Saturday morning she’d decided she was okay with Mama’s new perfume.

“Stop lookin’ at my shaved belly,” said Calliope.

Saturday morning Calliope was moving pretty stiffly, so we moved the kittens down to the dining room for the better part of the day. By evening (after getting a lot of good sleep in), she was moving more easily, and was happy to see the kittens when they returned. By Sunday morning she was pretty much back to normal.

I did try to set her up in my bathroom when I brought her home after her spay, but she was not happy about being in a new location, and howled until I took her to the foster room. (In retrospect – and I think I’ve had this thought before – what I should have done leading up to her spay surgery was let her hang out in my bedroom for a few hours every day so that it was familiar to her, and then she could have just stayed in there with me for a few days while she recovered. Ah well – things worked out pretty well in the end.)

The Magnificent Khal can’t imagine WHO has been sneezing on this window, but he thinks it’s time for someone to clean it.

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr/ Bluesky/Threads) this weekend.

Calliope is OUTTA HERE for her spay surgery, and it’s not a minute too soon (I thought on Monday that she was coming out of heat, but it was not so). She’ll be back here with us tonight, ready to get healing and for her forever home to find her! (If you think that might be you, drop an email to INFO (at) FFHSV.ORG to inquire, or fill out an application here.)

Daphne enjoys the spiral tunnel.

Tussle time for Zeus and Zephyr. The boys are wrasslin’, and the girls are being perfect little angels. (Only ’cause they’re sleepy. If they were awake, they’d be kicking tail and taking names too.)

I suggested to Cassandra and Daphne that they come down to floor level to tussle, and Cassandra said “What fun would that be?!”

YouTube link
Cassandra might be the smallest of the litter and Zephyr might be the biggest, but she does NOT hesitate to jump on him and give him The Business.

Mama’s home… and she smells funny! Calliope came through her spay just fine, and she’s been home for a few hours. She’s a tiny bit wobbly, but she ate and used the litter box, she sniffed the kittens, and now she’s curled up in the window bed snoozing. I’ll keep an eye on the kittens to make sure they’re not bugging her, but so far they’re leaving her alone.

Pandora up close. Such a pretty girl!

Good night innernets. (Zeus, Cassandra, Pandora and Daphne.) (Zephyr was snoozing elsewhere.)

Pandora pie! (My favorite!)

Daphne’s still enjoying that Fruitasan!

They don’t quite have the hang of it yet, but give ’em time and they’ll be bouncing after those ping pong balls.

Zeus says “I could get used to this sunshine!”

The kittens playing, while mama (at least for part of the video) watches from up high. The kittens really like swinging on that Fruitasan!

The calico girls (Pandora (left) and Cassandra) always look so attitudinous, but they’re actually sweet as can be.

Good night innernets. (Pandora, Zeus, Daphne, Zephyr & Cassandra)

These little monkeys are 9 weeks old! See their weight chart here.

Calliope (here with Pandora hiding on the other side of her) is doing well after her spay on Friday. She was moving a little stiffly yesterday morning (and the kittens were WILD), so we moved them into another room for the better part of the day to give her some peace and quiet. She snoozed the day away and is moving much better now.

YouTube link
Daphne’s feelin’ squeaky, mama’s playing with her kittens, and Cassandra has a sleepy. (Please note, this video is from a couple of days ago. Calliope was spayed on Friday and is currently not playing with her kittens like this. She’s mostly sleeping and occasionally snuggling with them.)

Cassandra and Daphne were playing a rousing game of Slappy Paws, and didn’t appreciate the interruption.

YouTube link
Kittens jumping up after the feather teaser, and kittens (mostly Zephyr) chasing the toys I’m tossing for them. (And Calliope, feelin’ chatty.)

The little family in the sunshine.

Good night innernets. (Alternately “It is night-night time, lady. You mind?”)(Zeus, Cassandra & Zephyr)
