Firstly: Pandora is adoption pending! She’ll be joining a home with a young calico. I’m not sure when she’ll be going home, maybe in the next week or so.
Secondly: In case you didn’t see it on social media yesterday…
Zephyr and Zeus have been adopted… and they’re now permanent residents named Smitty (Zeus) and Pete (Zephyr). Surprise!
The quick story is this: when we had Ash, Basil and Nigella (formerly Pierogi, Wonton and Tortellini) with us, they absolutely loved playing and hanging out with Magoo. And he loved it too – he loves his big brothers Charlie and Khal, but they don’t have the energy to GO GO GO the way Ash and Basil did. When they went to Tabatha’s and were adopted, Magoo clearly missed having kittens near his own age to play with.
I think Calliope’s kittens were 3 – 4 weeks old when we started seriously talking about adopting Zephyr/Pete. When we decided we were going to do it, I insisted that we adopt Zeus/Smitty as well. I think they were about 8 weeks old when I told Michelle we were going to adopt them.
Before they were even officially available, there was a TON of interest in Zephyr/Pete – which is why I posted them as adoption pending the instant they were 10 weeks old.
Regarding the names: as always, it’s perfectly fine if you don’t like their new names. We went through a million different names and they were thisclose to being either Marty and Doc or Wyatt and Doc, but Doc never fit Smitty/Zeus (never fit either of them) really, and I don’t remember how Fred came to mention “Smitty” in passing, but I immediately loved it and thought it fit Zeus perfectly. I’d been suggesting Sam or Pete for Zephyr; Fred didn’t like Sam, so Pete it is.
They’ll be hanging out with the fosters for the time being, and once the others head home, we’ll integrate them into the rest of the home. They’ve both spent plenty of time downstairs, playing with Magoo and getting to know Charlie and Khal, and I think my boys will all be the best of friends.
I’ll also refer to them as Pete/Zephyr and Smitty/Zeus for the next week or so. (“Why so many boys, Robyn?” you might be asking, and the answer to that: Charlie. He hates female cats older than about 4 months old; by the time Nigella/Tortellini went to Tabatha, I wasn’t comfortable leaving her around Charlie unsupervised.)
So that’s the news with THAT.
Good news all around!
Lastly: I won’t be getting new fosters for a while. I’m going out of town in early November, and promised Fred I wouldn’t take more fosters until I get back. This’ll give Smitty/Zeus and Pete/Zephyr time to settle in, too. So you won’t be seeing new fosters, but you’ll be seeing more than you usually do of the permanent residents, so hopefully that’ll tide y’all over!

Calliope’s got a toy! I’ve honestly never seen a cat carry one of those plastic balls around in their mouth. She’s a wonder, that girl.
🎉 Hooray, hooray, Zephyr & Zeus have been adopted! Their new names are Smitty (Zeus) and Pete (Zephyr)! They join a family with three older kitty brothers…. named Charlie, Khal, and Magoo. 🙂 (If that’s not clear enough, THEY ARE NOW PERMANENT RESIDENTS!) Welcome to the family, sweet boys. ❤️
Magoo hopes you saw the good news earlier that he has some new little minions – er, BROTHERS – but if not, please say hello to Pete (formerly Zephyr, left) and Smitty (formerly Zeus)! We expect many shenanigans in the future from this trio.

Oh! I’d forgotten about how Zephyr and Zeus were adoption pending before they’d even been announced as adoptable. That struck me as so odd at the time!
Yay!!!! There were so many signs (Ima lookin’ at you, Fred!) but I would never dream of broaching that subject with y’all or any foster parent. But I love it! I look forward to several months of Perm shenanigans posts! Yay!!!!
