We’ve been letting the kittens go downstairs for a while – maybe a week and a half or so? – and it’s going okay. Most of them are occasionally hissy toward the big cats, but overall they’re fine (fortunately the permanent residents don’t take hissing kittens personally.) As time goes on, they’re more interested in going downstairs, so I basically let them go down for an hour or so in the morning, and a couple of hours in the afternoon.

“Oh hey, Unca Magoo,” says Zephyr.

Zeus was playing with the track toy, and Magoo ran over to play, which startled Zeus, who went slightly floofy.

Daphne checks out the hallway.

Khal says “Why’s this kitten wearing her Floof Suit, Dad? Doesn’t she know we keep it casual around here? She doesn’t need to dress up!”

Cassandra on the stairs and Zeus on the stairs.

Khal went strolling across the room – not even looking at Cassandra! – and she felt it was a Floof Suit occasion.

Pandora on the stairs; she’d been watching to see where Zephyr was going when I got her attention.

Zeus in Magoo’s box o’ paper, and pretty pleased about it.

Cassandra on the big cat tree.

If you’ve been following Love & Hisses for a while, then you probably know that Fred refuses to learn the names of the fosters and instead gives them nicknames. (It’s most often along the lines of “the orange one,” “the black one,” etc.) Someone asked the other day if the current fosters have nicknames, and they do – so here you go.
Calliope’s nickname is “Mama” for obvious reasons.
Cassandra’s nickname is “Slash” because of the slash of color down her nose.
Daphne is “Sylvester.”
Pandora is “Starburst” because although the color on her face isn’t really a starburst shape, Fred says that in his mind (when he’s not looking at her) that’s what it looks like.
Zephyr is “Pete.” I… dunno.
Zeus is “Smitty.” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

“Don’t look, Ethel!” (Calliope & Pandora)

Playing fetch with Calliope.

Kitten IT is here to figure out why my computer is on the fritz. “Did you try rebooting it?” Pandora asks helpfully.

The kittens are crazypantsing it all over the place and BOY are they having fun with that cube!

Line ’em up! From left: Zeus, Zephyr, Daphne, Pandora & Cassandra. (There’s a sparkle from the suncatchers in the window – Natalie and Milo checking in! – shining across Cassandra’s face, which is why she looks a little odd.)

Good night innernets. (Daphne)

I think that Khal is so magnificent and floofy that the kittens feel compelled to floof themselves. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
I think we need a “The Freds” litter where Fred just assigns random names to each kitten and it may (or may not!) make any sense. Or, maybe all the kittens are named after famous Freds (Rogers, Astaire, Flintstone, Mercury, and Anderson of course) as an homage to Fred’s unique way of naming kittens!
