Edited to add:

It has been an insane morning, y’all. Kristi pushed her first kitten out around 6:30 this morning in that crate with Katia and her kittens. Katia has been an exceptional midwife, helping to clean up the new kittens and soothe her mother. When I took this picture (though you can’t see them all), Kristi had had 5 kittens. Directly afterward, she had another one. We’re at 6: 1 buff, 2 orange, 1 gray and 1 dark (could be black, tortie or tuxie, I’m not sure yet.) The newborn appears to be buff or possibly white; only time will tell. I am hoping Kristi’s done! (Please note Oksana reclining in the middle of the pile like the Queen of Sheba.) I am mostly staying out of the room, though I snapped this pic when I went in to replenish their water bowl and scoop the litter box. Hopefully I can get in there for a good look tonight!

Look who it is!

That’s Stardust and her brother Nelson.

Debra said: She now has the run of the house. Still a few hisses, but she seems fairly relaxed. We are still supervising, and she seems happier without the other cats, but she is doing so much better! We dedicate an hour each day to “stardust time” to reassure her that she is loved.

And then a little while later…

Phoenix (front) and Stardust! Not bad progress – and it’s only been a week!

(Thanks, Debra!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Katia’s kittens are 3 weeks old now! Their eyes are all open, they’re starting to wander around the crate. They’re getting used to being touched and picked up by the weird lady.
They easily escape the pie plate.
(They haven’t escaped the crate yet – and actually, they haven’t really seemed to notice that they COULD escape the crate yet.)
Katarina reminds me of a black and white Puff with her little mustache and her big ol’ head.
Oksana, keeping an eye on me.
Torvill, with the serious little face.
Dean wonders WHAT is going ONNNN.
Tuxie girls.
Torvill (right) and Dean (left) check out the pie plate.
Oksana has got herself a serious ‘do.
Friday night (or Saturday, I don’t actually remember at this point), Kristi went into the crate with Katia and the kittens, and mostly stayed there for the weekend.
Despite this look of despair on Katia’s face, she LOVES having her mother in that crate. There was a lot of mutual grooming.
The kittens crawled over her, around her, and slept up against her. She groomed them a lot, too.
Naturally we were very excited and “Oh! Kittens any moment!” All I can tell you is that as of 9 pm last night (when I’m writing this), there were no kittens. Unless she had kittens overnight, she will likely be headed off to the vet this morning.
Videos! In the first, the tuxie sisters have a rough life (taken at the same time I took that picture above of the two of them laying on their backs side by side.)
And in the second, Katia stepped out for a drink, so Granny Kristi babysat the kittens. Baths first, kids!
    Oksana’s bed head is spectacular!
    I don’t want to even think about what kind of situation sweet little Stardust was in. I’m so thankful she is in a home that loves her and will help her trust again. Thank you Debra and family.
      The best part is that medium-hair cats perpetually look like they have bed head. I know mine does.
        Also, that Oksana picture CRIES for a caption.
    Lol, Katarina does look like a tuxie version of Puff! Oksana’s bed head is hilarious, she looks like she should be holding a little security blankie and sucking her thumb like a cranky toddler just up from a nap.
    Why is Kristi headed off to the vet…?
      Robyn will have Kristi checked out as a precautionary measure to make sure there are no problems with the pregnancy since it seems to be taking FUREVER!
    I so hope you are greeted by the sight of Krisi’s kittens this morning! Give her a scritch for me regardless.
    I took a look at your 2007 post – Moving into Crooked Acres – and noted a great picture of your car loaded with five cat carriers – a photo replicated in the account of your recent move…but that one had far more carriers! Perhaps a side by side comparison would not go amiss?
    So adorable!!! Oksana reminds me of Kate’s Royal Babies – (Prince) Charming! Hoping all is well with kristi! Happy Monday!
    Kristi probably saw your post here that if she didn’t start having those babies ASAP that you were going to take her to the vet today and she decided that she didn’t want to go anywhere so she quit crossing her legs and they just started popping out! Go Kristi!! Yay KITTENS!!!
    Kristi does well with deadlines !
    Yay, kittens! Seems like you are witness to what happens in the social structure of feral cats in a matriarchal society. Pretty cool, I think. I hope Katia and her Mom can find homes together as a barn cats.
    Sounds like a woodpecker doing a number on your house in the background of the first video?
    apparently threatening to take her to the vet did the trick. it is officially kitten-palooza over there
  13. warriorinside says:
    OMG Oksana laying in the pile of newborns is the funniest thing in the history of ever. Also as others have observed — apparently the threat to take her to the vet did the trick XD
    Kristi didn’t want NO part of the vet. Here are your kittens mam.
    I agree that Katarina looks a bit like Puff, and I also think Torvill looks a bit like Spitz in the eating pic (on the best pics page). I can’t wait to see what the new ones look like and what their personalities will be.
    I think Kristi planned this all out. The kitties are so cute
    Do the kittens like their new aunts and uncles
    Dear Kristi, you won’t ever have to do this again!
  17. Kar says:
    Stardust Time
    Even with all of the adorable kittens, that maybe the cutest thing that I’ve heard today.
    I made this comment on Facebook, but I’m adding it here because: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. “This would be a great time to set up cameras for a Livestream that you share with us, Robyn. I know you’d make a lot of people deliriously happy if you did.”
    I think I remember correctly that Fred had objected to such an arrangement in the past due to not wanting to appear on camera, but at this point, with the current kitten situation and the level of cute and the incredible good it would do to the general state of the world, I think it’s time to override Fred’s objections for the greater good of all.
    Eeeeeeep! 😀 Fiiiiiinallyyy! Kristi goes, wait, another car trip? To the v-e-t? Uh, no, that’s really not necessary, I’m entirely fine, and I can prove it. No really, I can prove it! *spawns* See? No need for another *shudder* car ride, really! Nothing to see here… except a bunch of cute kittens. 😀
    I foresee inter-litter snuggling in the very near future! I’m also hoping that the possibly buff, possibly white sixth arrival turns out to be a dilute tortie like mom, I’m wondering if the greybie could also be a stealth dilute tortie teeny, and… am I the only one holding out hope for a rare male calico in the form of that dark mystery could be tuxie, could be black, could be tortie kitten? A gal can dream!
    Yay, Kristi! Did I mention finally?!
  20. Pam R. says:
    March 19, 2018 at 6:58 pm
    Robyn, you said Kristi had six kittens, but you only gave colors for five. Am I missing something?
    Oh, never mind! I see it now; the newest was pale…
  21. Rachel says:
    March 19, 2018 at 7:01 pm
    Well, that does it. Piles of kittens with their snuggling mamas. I’m officially dead. The cute has finally succeeded in its attempts to murder me. 😀
    That is a LOT of kittens!
  22. Rebecca M says:
    Holy cow, the three-week-olds look *gigantic* next to the newborns.
  23. Lori K. says:
    Oh joy! Robyn, have you ever had ten tiny babies all at one time? What a circus!
    Kristi had some gorgeous babies!
