Pumpernickel in the sun, looking oh so serious.

And on the little tree in my room with Babka, saying “Tryin’ to nap here, lady.”

Pumpernickel with Pita, checking out the empty Fancy Feast box, which is CLEARLY the best toy EVER.

Babka atop the scratcher, in the sun. It’s been sunny recently, and I am not complaining – neither are they!

Pita looking guilty. “No, I didn’t steal your pen. I don’t know where it came from!”

Ciabatta loves a good snuggly nap.

Crouton’s tilted head and “What is that lady doing now?!” expression just kills me.

I was in with Meander and the kittens, petting her while she took a break, and this happened.

Skitter opted not to climb out of the crate, but Mosey went for it.

And then Skitter sprawled atop Meander before retreating to the crate again.

Later, on the other side of the crate, Bolt did this.

Followed by Mosey.

For the record, I do not love this nonsense. I think they’re TOO YOUNG to leave the crate, because I don’t think they can figure out how to get back in. But I know I don’t get to make these decisions, and Meander can certainly put them back in the crate if she wants to. I did move the rugs so that now there’s a rug on either side of the crate, so they won’t be slip-sliding all over the floor if they get out when I’m not around.

Alice heard that we’re going to start letting the Crumbs run around the entire house later this week, and I’m not sure she approves. (That’s a joke – I am sure she does NOT approve one tiny bit.)

Pumpernickel makes the climb.

Two things:

1. Someone somewhere asked me where I got the two tall scratching posts that the kittens like to hang out on. Those are both the SmartCat Ultimate Scratching Post – you have to buy the perch separately. One problem is that the clips that hold the perch onto the top of the scratcher are flimsy and tend to give way if a cat jumps off with too much force (sending the perch crashing to the floor), so Fred put a screw into the bottom of the perch to make it permanent. The perch comes with a red pad that is held on with velcro on the bottom – the velcro is constantly detaching (it’s not really made to hold up to a lot of activity), so I bought a Flor carpet tile, cut it out to the size of the perch, and then used Gorilla glue to attach it to the top. It’s a little ridiculous that I had to make so many modifications, but every foster who comes through loves those scratchers – and they’re at least 6 years old and are holding up beautifully.

2. Though I didn’t catch it on video (or in a picture), Pumpernickel decided it was time to fly, and he jumped from the top of the scratching post to the bed. I knew it was just a matter of time!

Skitter’s all “Nope, the floor isn’t any closer today. Maybe tomorrow!”

5+ minutes of tossing toys for the kittens. And they’re having a blast!

Ciabatta stepped out of the basket to get a drink of water, and then Pita was like “HA HA NOW IT’S MINE.” Such a smug little face.

That’s a happy milk bar (and Lollygag really puts his shoulders into it, doesn’t he?)

Bath time for Mosey.

Good night innernets.
