Cassandra, Daphne and Zeus have a LOT of whiskers between the three of them.

Daphne, up close. It’s interesting that it looks like there’s a stripe of white speckles going from her nose to her forehead. I wondered if it was a trick of the light, so I got my glasses and a flashlight and checked it out closer, and while there are not white speckles there, that strip of fur IS ever so slightly lighter than the fur around it, so I guess the camera grabbed that. Interesting!

Pandora on my blanket. (That is a cooling blanket – I got it at Costco at the beginning of the summer – and I think she likes the coolness on her belly.)

I interrupted a mother-son snuggly nap, apparently.

These kittens can TAKE OVER a bed.

Someone asked yesterday for pictures of Waffle as a kitten, side by side with Zephyr. We didn’t foster Waffle (or Mocha), but Tiffany put this post (below) together (click here to see the post at Facebook if it doesn’t show up for you below). There’s definitely a resemblance there!
She said that the shelter they adopted Waffle from had him listed as a short-hair!

I couldn’t get Zephyr and Waffle to sit side by side, but they’re fairly close here.

Do I just ADORE the freckles on Maple’s nose? I do indeed.

Waffle checks out his look in the mirror.

Muffin keeps an eye on ME in the mirror!

Mocha is such a sweet, sweet, SWEET girl.

Every evening, Charlie and Magoo (and sometimes Khal, if he’s interested) get canned food. And every evening Magoo and Charlie wait (im)patiently for me to get into the kitchen and get them their dang food. They’re like “Speed it UP, lady, we’re starvin’!”

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr/ Bluesky/Threads) yesterday.

The kittens (from top: Zeus, Zephyr, Cassandra, Pandora & Daphne) are feeling good this morning! (They were spayed/neutered yesterday, if you missed that.)

*Waffle’s the king of the castle.
*Muffin says “Lady! Behind you! A serial killer! Or nothing at all!”
*Maple is getting SO many rainbow kisses of approval from Natalie/Milo.
*Mocha says “No seriously, lady. Behind you!”

Throw Back Thursday: from 2024, the Hopalong Gang was the very first litter to climb into my desk. I called it “an infestation of kittens” – and you’ll see baby Maple (then Dillydally) in there!

I ran across this blurry picture of brown tabby Badger (2015) and it made me think of this blurry picture of flame point Jon Snow (2013) and this blurry picture of orange tabby Gilbert (2014) and although I didn’t love that they were so blurry when I took them, someone said “That’s probably exactly how blurry they see YOU!”, and they have a point. A decade+ later, I think the blur adds to the charm of the shots.

WARNING: this is a video that includes Milo (formerly Rum), who passed away in early May. This video happened about 2 weeks before we said goodbye to him. (He had a liver shunt.)
I’ve kept this video in a folder on my desktop and have watched it probably more than 100 times. Milo caught a chipmunk in the back yard and brought it into our screened porch, assisted by Magoo. Seeing him so active and happy and proud of his catch always makes me smile (and wish that he was still here with us.) I thought it might make you smile, too.
(The chipmunk was caught (by us) and released unharmed. Our permanent residents are allowed in the back yard during the day – we have a cat fence around the back yard ( PurrfectFence.com) and keeps them contained to the back yard.)

Throw Back Thursday: from 2023, Kes was (I think!) the very first picture I took of a foster sitting on a Who Gives a Crap box. Another few years, I’ll have enough for a calendar of them!

I tell you what, that onesie/nightie does nothing for Calliope (she kinda looks like a sack of potatoes, don’t tell her I said that), but she manages to make it look AWFULLY cute anyway. (Cassandra agrees!)

Good night innernets. (Pandora, Zephyr & Zeus)

I think Calliope in her onesie looks like one of those giant seals lounging around on a dock. (Not that you look giant, dear girl, you are very svelte!)
She really does!!!
“I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!” Muffin is channeling Stuart Smalley.
You are so lucky there aren’t any hiding spots on that porch for the little critter. I can’t tell you how many times I find dead, mummified mice, frogs, voles, etc, long after the thrill of the hunt ended.
Loved seeing Milo being the normal, vivacious cat he was meant to be. I so miss that boy!
I probably haven’t told the story of the time Charlie brought a chipmunk (perhaps even that exact chipmunk!) into the house and we didn’t realize it for A WEEK. And it was still alive! The only reason we even realized it was in the house is because I was looking back on the outside camera to figure something out, and saw him run across the back yard and into the house with it in his mouth. If I hadn’t seen it by chance, that chipmunk would probably still be living in the house.
Oh my goodness, that’s funny. He must have enjoyed the Kitten food. How did you find it?
We realized in retrospect that the cats had been spending an inordinate amount of time trying to look under the couch. We assumed they’d just knocked a toy under there or something, but turns out that that’s where the chipmunk had been spending most of his time.
Charlie and Magoo sitting waiting for their food seems very patient. Our cat meows and weaves in between your feet 1000 times while you are getting the food and then walking down the 4 stairs to the family room where she eats. We keep telling her, “if you kill us by tripping us there won’t be any food”.
They are surprisingly patient boys!
OH my. Coming here is like having a box of candy out to enjoy!
Why am I not at all surprised Milo and Magoo did zero harm to the chipmunk? <3 I can just hear the chipmunk telling their buddies: "Nah, I'm fine. Strange cats; I thought I was a freakin' goner, but they were talking about new friend and hide-and-seek and, like, they seemed like they wouldn't ignore it if I said no thanks lemme out of here? On the one paw, what the heck, but on the second one I am soooo not complaining! Dude kept purring in my ear, too. Seriously, that's what happened, I swear to the tree nut gods. No claws or nothin'."
Er, sorry. Couldn't resist.
I have to ask, because an autogenerated description tagged onto that facebook embed has me curious. Is Waffle the fluffy a ragdoll colorpoint, or an orange tabby? And, just because I dunno, is Mocha a colorpoint? I know you said she's blue-eyed. I know Muffin and Maple's coloring because they were L&H kittens.
Chanter, Waffle is an orange tabby from nose to tail–no white on him anywhere that I can see in the photos, though his ruff and tail are so floofy that they look a little lighter than the rest of him, and he has greenish eyes. A very handsome boy, I would say, though I admit I have a huge soft spot for marmies, so my opinion might be a bit biased. (I had a very sweet one as a “furry nephew” many years ago, you see–I’m deathly allergic to cats so I can’t have any of my own, alas, but my brother and sis-in-law have been servants to many during their married life, and they have no human children so it just always seemed natural to consider the kitties as my nieces and nephews instead. LOL)
Mocha, on the other hand, has a very interesting and somewhat unusual coat pattern–she actually looks like a snowshoe to me, if you’re familiar with that. Her back and some of her sides are brown like a classic Siamese, and her ears and tail are indeed darker, and she does have ice-blue eyes. But her “pointing” is different from a Siamese in several ways. For one, rather than the sort of gradual color-fade from darker brown to lighter brown you see on a Siamese, Mocha’s ears and tail are more of a true black, and her belly, legs, chest, and throat are mostly pure white. I can see a little spot of brown on the inside of her right front leg in today’s pic, and she has another teeny one on her chin just below her mouth, but otherwise the lower part of her face and one whisker pad are that same pristine white. Then she has a blotchy, irregular black mask that comes over the top of her head and eyes and sort of blends into the white at the edges, with a mostly-solid smudge of black over the bridge of her nose (and her nose leather itself is black). Hopefully that gives you enough info to visualize her; she’s quite a pretty girl, and reminds me strongly of another family cat I knew as a child (he belonged to my maternal grandmother).
Zeus looks larger than the ladies. What are their weights nowadays?
As of last Saturday, their weights were:
Cassandra: 1.50 KG/3.31 lbs
Daphne: 1.70 KG/ 3.75 lbs
Pandora: 1.75 KG/ 3.83 lbs
Zephyr: 1.95 KG/ 4.29 lbs
Zeus: 1.90 KG/4.17 lbs
Well, he is, but Zephyr is even larger! Thanks for the update.
Yep, I think both those boys are going to be big!
Everyone is thriving, even the “starving” ones, I see.
Be still my ❤️!! Unca Magoo and Unca Charlie, two very handsome kitty boys waiting (im)patiently for their food. Quite the size difference. Unca Magoo is going to be an average size kitty, not like extra large = more kitty to ❤️ Unca Charlie.
