Good morning from the Fruitasan! (Zephyr) (I am going to be so sad when they outgrow the Fruitasan)
I took this cute picture of Calliope and Cassandra, and just now when I was getting ready to post it I was SO CONFUSED. Why so many legs, Cassandra? Why two tails? Did my photos get hacked by AI? (I do not, for the record, use AI. I’ll spare you my lecture about how AI is a blight on the face of humanity and I hate it so very much)(oops) I finally figured out that when I took the picture, Pandora was walking by in the background. Mystery solved! (Bless my heart.)

These kittens are nuts. Hopping and jumping and skittering… and some of them are coming to the middle of the room! Also, if you pay close attention between the end of the first section, wherein I tell Calliope “you’ve still got food on your plate, I’m not opening another can” and the next section where there is CLEARLY MORE FOOD ON HER PLATE, you may feel free to roll your eyes at me actually believing I wasn’t going to give her more food.

🎉 Former foster Flynn (formerly Kohle), who we fostered in 2012, has turned into a lap cat. Selena says: “Flynn is doing good. He’s actually eating better himself and gained some weight since we lost Hook [former foster Puff]. He decided that he needed to be a lap cat. He will get on my lap as soon as I sit down. He never did that before we lost Hook. He’s never been a cat to want to sleep or be close to his humans but he has been for the last three months. He misses his buddy but is doing better than I expected.” ❤️ (Thank you so much for the update, Selena!)

It’s nap time for the kittens, who are full of complaints.
Zeus is so rude to his mama. (His mama is not impressed.) (That’s Pandora’s tail in front of Zeus.)
The milk bar’s hoppin’. “When will she wean them?” is a popular question recently, and if you’ve been a Love & Hisses follower for a minute, you know the answer: never. I’ve had one mama in all the time I’ve been fostering (hat tip to Neko, formerly Katriane) who said “You know what? I’m done here.” and then refused to let her kittens nurse. Allll the other mamas we’ve had have let their kittens nurse FOREVER.
Calliope seems inclined to do the same. The kittens are nearly 7 weeks old and eating well on their own, so I’ll give it a little bit longer, then start giving Calliope time away from the kittens. That, combined with a weansie/onesie when she’s with her kittens, will encourage her milk to dry up. Calliope is going for her spay on either August 12th or 19th (I’m waiting to hear which), so I’m hoping to have her milk mostly dried up before then.

I haven’t seen a room filled with that much fun, joy, and energy for a long time, and certainly not when humans were within.
And what a kitten and mother room you have too! Everything kittens need or want as they grow. That Fruitasan is a delight, and I shall try to get an adult cat version for me. The perpetually baffled Daphne, my that had us laughing.
So many delightful pictures, videos and memories for you. Thank you for sharing them all. I am exhausted from watching the youthful vigour!
