Tuesday, I moved the kittens out of the foster room. I’d been going back and forth about what to do – it was initially my plan to move Calliope into either my bathroom or office if I felt that birth was eminent, but I didn’t really want to put her in my office (it gets very warm in there with the door closed, especially this time of year) and I didn’t want to put her in my bathroom (it’s small and would be cramped if I needed to put food, a crate and a litter box in there).
Calliope has handled being in the room with the kittens just fine, but every time she got into the litter box, one of the kittens would be in there vigorously trying to cover up what she was doing WHILE SHE WAS DOING IT, and the few times I saw her checking out the crate, she had at least one kitten all up in her space. I think she COULD have handled giving birth with them in there, but I mean – is that the relaxed environment I wanted for her?
I think not.
So I moved the kittens out of the foster room and into the rest of the upstairs. Their litter boxes are in my bathroom, their food in the hall, and I moved most of the cat trees out of the foster room and into my room and office. It’s not ideal, but it made the most sense for now. Lord, I hope adoptions start happening for them soon!
They handled the move really well.
When I moved them out, I kept in mind that I could always move them back in. If Calliope was bored or lonely, I’d just scoot ’em back in there with her and worry about the rest later.
Calliope…

Lonely? Nope. She’s spending her days rotating between snoozing on the floor, snoozing in the window bed, and snoozing on me. Oh, and eating of course. Guess who gets a Churu allll to herself? She’s not sad about that.
When’s she going to have those kittens, you ask? Well, any day now. If she doesn’t have them by Monday or so, I’ll get her to the vet to make sure everything’s okay. The babies are moving a lot, she’s eating a lot, and she’s sleeping a lot.

Rocco was lying on that porch railing with his feet dangling off either side, but by the time I got my phone to take a picture, he’d sat up. HMPH.

Where we are currently. Appetite: voracious. Interest in the crate: nil. Spending her days: snoozing and eating.

“Ooh!” said Wonton. “A tail!…. Oh. It’s attached to Tortellini who (wrongly) thinks her tail isn’t a toy.”

I love how quickly 🎉former fosters Khinkali and Bao have settled in – look at those content little faces (and that smile on Bao’s face)! ❤️ (Thanks, Erin!)

SIGH. Sometimes I forget to evenly spread the filling in the loaf pan before baking, and then it oozes out of the pan and makes a mess. (Pierogi)

Calliope’s alien belly. The babies are hoppin’! (She’s due any time now.)

🎉 Former foster Momos is doing great! Lara reports: We’re still deciding on a name, but heavily leaning toward Sammie. She’s had some short meetings with [big sister] Bean. She seems to be fascinated by her. Bean isn’t that impressed. 😂She is so sweet and we’re loving all the little squeaks and purrs she makes. ❤️ (Thanks, Lara!)

Good night innernets. (Pierogi)
