Time to let me know if you want a holiday card, with this year’s featured Crooked Acre permanent resident! Go here to Postable, enter your name and address, and your card will be on the way soon. I am happy to send cards to other countries, this is NOT limited to U.S. residents. If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll do my best to fix it. I’ll take names and addresses until December 20th.

If you’d like to send me a card as well (never ever required, but always appreciated – I don’t keep track of who does or doesn’t send a card, I promise!), send it to:

After spending a couple of days in the dining room on her own, ChaCha seemed a bit less enthusiastic about getting into the carrier yesterday, and so instead of moving her to the dining room for the day, I moved the kittens.

This, of course, meant that they were in prime location for a few visits!

First up, Uncle Rocco.

Flamenco stomped right over to get all up in Rocco’s space. Please note that she is not yet floofed.

Rocco does not like anyone in his face, so he gave her just the LIGHTEST tap, and she had this very dramatic overreaction.

“OH MISTER, YOU ARE IN TROUBLE NOW!”

“Lady, I think I’m in trouble.”

“How DARE.”

Tango just stood and stared, floofily.

Mambo and Sashay, who woke up to this drama, were both like “Oh, I’m not going down THERE.”

Fred let Rocco out of the dining room, and Rocco was happy to go.

Later…

The kittens caught sight of Uncle Charlie through the door.

And Uncle Charlie came on in. Flamenco and Tango put on their very finest floof suits and followed him.

Flamenco got all up in his business and gave him the ol’ snifferoo.

Uncle Charlie said “Hey there, little friend.”

Then he and Flamenco sniffed noses while Tango watched from a distance – and Mambo came over to see what was what. (Fortunately he’d heard there was a dress code.)

Uncle Charlie and Mambo sniffed noses.

Tango went under the ham-mick to hide while Flamenco and Mambo kept an eye on Uncle Charlie… who was keeping an eye on their food dish.

Uncle Charlie – having heard that he couldn’t have any kitten food – headed for the door and glanced at Sashay (who was completely oblivious and playing in the corner).

Charlie is so good with kittens, even when they crowd him. I wish he was like that with adult fosters!

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr/ Bluesky) yesterday.

Tango yells encouragement as Mambo LEAPS! up after the feather teaser. (He didn’t get it, but he was close!)

Former foster Crumpet (calico & white) and her sister Leo are pro loafers. (It’s a good day for loafin’!) (Thanks, Geeta!)

Crating 15 kittens & then setting them free.

In 2020 we were fostering The Vittles – 15 kittens who were not all related to each other. And they had ringworm! So every day I’d stuff them all into a big crate, mop the floor, and set them free again when the floor was dry. Someone asked how I got them all into the crate, and so I made this video to show just that.

ChaCha is available for adoption!

ChaCha (estimated DOB 9-15-23) was turned in to Huntsville Animal Services when she was extremely pregnant. Just a few hours later she went into labor and gave birth to four healthy kittens. The little family came to us just a few hours after that (on September 16th). ChaCha has done an amazing job taking care of her kittens. Now it’s time for her to be the baby!

ChaCha is a super sweet, friendly, and cuddly girl. She loves to be petted, she loves to sit in your lap and be snuggled, and when she’s had enough snuggling, she’ll curl up nearby to keep you company while you work or watch TV. She’s a very playful girl and loves it when you wave a feather teaser for her jump up after, or toss ping pong balls or rattly mice for her to chase. Depending on the toy, she very well may bring it back to you to throw again – she doesn’t always get the concept of bringing the toy all the way to you, but sometimes she does! She’s really a great all-around girl who wants love and attention, and to keep a close eye on what you’re doing (she knows you need supervision.) She would be good with other cats (with a proper introduction, of course) and though she hasn’t been around dogs in her foster home, we believe she’d be fine with cat-friendly dogs as well. She’s spayed, ID chipped, and up to date on her vaccinations.

We are located in the Huntsville (Alabama) area. Out of area adoptions are allowed, but adopters must come here to complete the adoption, as ChaCha has stated “I don’t know how to drive, I have no interest in learning, and you can’t make me.” Alright, then!

In case you were wondering, Tango is STILL Da BAYbee.

Line ’em up! From left: Mambo, Tango, Flamenco & Sashay. NO, Churu wasn’t involved in getting this picture*. Why would you ever think that?!

*Yes it was.

Sashay got up on that wall shelf all by herself*, and I said “But Sashay, you’re just a tiny baby!” and she glared at me and said “I do what I want.”

*It’s the lowest shelf and an easy climb up from the back of the couch, but still.

Good night innernets. (Mambo & Flamenco)
