“MINE!” says Louie.

I love to pick these kittens up and flip them onto their backs. They all deal with it well, but I’d say Dewey downright likes it. (The two whiskers pointing straight up are killing me. Fix your antennae, Dewey!)

Huey strikes a pose.

Louie, too.

“What doin’, lady?” inquires Louie.

It was cold this weekend, so they took full advantage of that heated bed.

Huey comes out of the tunnel bed to take a look around.

Crumpet is such a sweetheart. She’s so happy in the red crate.

She came to me for some petting.

And back in the crate!

Sometimes she likes the left side of the crate, sometimes she likes the right side, and – as here – sometimes she just stretches along the back. She’s got options, and she likes it!

All eyes are open now, by the way.

Pumpernickel’s little fat belly in the front is THE CUTEST.

Due to the weather turning cold over the weekend, I had to put a small space heater in my office (where Crumpet and the Crumbs are). With the door closed, it tends to be cooler than the rest of the house. I have faith that Crumpet can keep her kittens warm, but I really don’t want it to get chilly in there.

So I plugged in a small space heater, and Crumpet isn’t a big fan of it. She’s not scared of it, but she is a bit wary, and more than once over the weekend I looked in to see her staring at it like she was trying to figure it out. It doesn’t run all the time – it turns off when it gets to the temperature it’s set at – but when it’s running, it’s kind of loud.

Crumpet is usually pretty good with me looking at (and taking pictures of) the kittens while she’s eating (it’s how I’ve gotten the few individual pictures I’ve gotten so far – if I’m fast and the babies don’t cry, she doesn’t even notice), but with the space heater running she stops often and looks at me like “Am I going to need to intervene? Did someone cry?”

Fortunately, after today it’s supposed to warm up again, so I can turn the heater off. I’m going to look into getting a small radiant heater for that room for the future.

That pink cube (which is the same kind of cube as the one Crumpet gave birth in – but not the actual cube itself; I haven’t moved that cube out of my office yet) is where Alice has been hanging out a lot lately. Naturally, Newt came along and was like “That does look comfy. Don’t mind if I do!”

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) over the weekend.

Dewey, Louie and Huey are perfectly positioned to catch some rays. ☀️

Former foster update! Remember Spock (gray and white; now Jethro) and Janeway (now Elly May), who were adopted together and went to live in the hollers of Kentucky? Sure you do! Well here they are now.

Tammy says: The hillbillies are thriving in the holler. They are definitely coming into their own personalities. Miss Elly has gone from tomboy to girly girl. She still loves her springs but isn’t as interested in tussling with her brother or playing chase. She likes snuggling or playing calmly. Jethro has gone from follower to king and protector of the house. He is a mouser!! The bedroom door flies open and the husband hollers, “Get up! Jethro has a mouse!!” To which I reply, “A real one?!?” (Here’s your sign. Bill Engvall fans will get that one) There is a shadow on the feeding photo because I have to stand watch like a guard at a prison chow line. Elly is a dainty eater while Jethro plows through his, then wants to horn in on hers. Evenings are for snuggling, tv watching and Churu, of which they are still huge fans.

How wonderful is that? SO wonderful. 😻 (Thank you Tammy!)

Dewey gets a brushing (and gives that brush the ol’ chomperoo.) I swear, I do brush their backs and sides, but they purr the hardest when I brush their bellies.

Pumpernickel has such a sweet little face.

Crumpet moved the kittens from the pink cube to the red crate last night. Don’t they look comfier? I know I’m much happier, and that’s what’s important. 😉

The milk bar is hoppin’.

Good night innernets. (No one here looks particularly sleepy!)

Dewey has conquered the triple-track toy!

Crumpet feeds the kittens and gets a head-scritching. The best of both worlds!

Dewey got brushed, and now he’s got a purr… and a very short clip of Louie, also having a purr. It’s all purrs all the time around here.

Crumpet says “Listen, the new apartment is awesome, but the landlady stops by unexpectedly a LOT and stares at me and the kittens. I gotta say, it’s a little weird.”

Mama’s little hissers. It’s a hissy little moshpit: Pumpernickel and Crouton are feelin’ hissy… and then they judge me.

Good night innernets. (From left: Dewey, Huey and Louie. I put them in the bathroom so I could clean the foster room, and they pulled down the bath mat, curled up, and went to sleep.)

Dewey’s gonna stay in bed this morning, thank you.

Line ’em up! (They lined themselves up.) From left: Pumpernickel, Babka, Ciabatta, Crouton and Pita.

The kittens go for a spin. (Alternately: 🎶you spin me right ’round, baby, right ’round, like a track toy, right ’round, ’round, ’round 🎶 )

I got out the tunnel bed, and the Ducklings LOVE it. Dewey on the left, Huey on top, and Louie inside.

The Crumbs are turning into toddlers (and yes, all their eyes are open now.) Mama Crumpet was eating – she doesn’t usually require quite so much reassurance that I’m not touching her babies, but I had to plug a space heater in in that room (because the nights have turned particularly cold, and that room tends to be cooler than the rest of the house) and she wasn’t loving the noise it was making. Also, the kittens squeaked a few times, so she’d stop and give me a LOOK to be sure I knew not to go getting all grabby with the kittens.

Good night innernets. (Crumpet and her Crumbs.)

Have you ever had a momma cat this protective of her babies? I’ve only been following for a few years and I don’t remember hearing how sensitive the mom was to her babies crying/your handling.

Probably proof that this is definitely not her first litter. She’s a great momma but just doesn’t realize you’re not the type of human to take her babies away. So sad to think that’s probably what happened in her past.

I know you take good cleaning care of the blankets and rugs, but do you wipe down the towers too? You probably do!

    Hi Robyn,

Here is a suggestion for a space heater. I live in a 2 bedroom condo and my bedrooms do not get great heat. I recently bought a space heater from Amazon. It’s a Lasko Oscillating Ceramic Tower Space Heater for Home with Overheat Protection, Timer, 22.5 Inches, Silver, 1500W, 5775, 7.5″L x 7.1″W x 22.75″H, and it gives out great heat. It is also very quiet.

Thanks Betty, I’ll check it out!
