I should have mentioned this earlier this week, but I forgot (you know how I am). Saturday marked 13 years since my very first blog post (though back then we called ’em journals, not blogs) about my very first set of fosters, Mia and her kittens Peanut, Flossie, Snoopy, Edgar & Oy (that was back before we went with a theme for the whole litter, though Mia and Oy were both named after Stephen King characters.)
13 years, 351 cats and kittens. That’s something, isn’t it?

Katia and kittens. Though none of the kittens are especially vocal (I mean, why would they be when their every need is met before they even know they need it?) Ohno is occasionally a talker, and I think she’s the BAYbee of the bunch.

After playing with the kittens the other night, Fred pointed to Debi and said “This one reminds me of that one we had that was so cool.”
Well, THAT clears it up. So I had to ask for details – was it recent? Was it at Crooked Acres or before? Was the “cool one” born in our house, part of a litter, a bottle baby? It was recent-ish, he thought it was at Crooked Acres, it was a black kitten, he thought maybe she’d gone to Petsmart and then come back for a little while, and he didn’t remember any more than that, though he was sure he’d know the name if I said it.
“I think it was a girl and she was cool. You’d wave the feather teaser around and her eyes would go black. She was awesome.”
Finally, I brought up the list of fosters page and started scrolling through looking for black kittens. I was scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, and before I got to the kitten in question, I realized who he was talking about…
Tricki!
Tricki and her brother Toto were at Petsmart and came to us for a break for about a month, along with John Smith and Bunnie (see them all in this post.) Tricki went back to Petsmart in February, came back to us in April, went to Petsmart in May, came back to us in mid-August for a couple of weeks, went back to Petsmart at the beginning of September and was FINALLY adopted a few weeks later. To this day, I’m amazed that we didn’t end up keeping her because she was one awesome, tiny little goofball of a girl.
I can definitely see the resemblance between Debi and Tricki!

Wow, 13 years and 351 kitties, that is something to be really proud about! I for one am glad that you decided to foster – not only because of the lives it bettered and saved – but for allowing us into your foster room to be a part of the fun.
And we get to cozy up to the Permies as well, (which is like getting another cat, only without upsetting the litter box/apple cart with our furry ones).
Win-win.

And of course the cats roll around in them and bring them inside. They get EVERYwhere! (Someone ought to sweep the deck, is what I say to myself every day. But someone never does! 🙂 )

What is amusing to me is I recognize the names of Mia, Peanut, and Edgar, although my Edgar was Edgar the Obnoxious. Mia I totally wanted to adopt but didn’t and Peanut turned into Treads who I blog about quite frequently because I loved him so.

Good names are good names! 🙂 (Every now and then someone else will use a name I used in the past, and sometimes it confuses me!) I called my Edgar “Egg” and I loved him so much. I was worried that no one would adopt him because he wasn’t as cute as his nearly-identical brother Oy and they wouldn’t appreciate how awesome he was and the only thing that kept me from insisting we keep him is that I’d promised Fred I wouldn’t!

Congrats! That’s alot of kittens. Those eyes on Tricki, OMG they are gorgeous! I wonder why it took so long to find a forever home. I would have scooped her up in a heartbeat. I love black cats!
