1-28-17 Looking for a home: Frankie

I know, I know. You guys must have whiplash from the “He needs a home!” – “We’re keeping him!” – and now “He needs a home!” roller coaster. We had a serious discussion yesterday and realized that we really jumped the gun on deciding to keep him. There are just too many cats with too many personalities in this house, and he needs to find a home where he isn’t lost in the crowd – we think he’d do better as one of two or three or four rather than one of eleven.

(It’s okay if you don’t agree with us on this, but it’s what we’ve decided.)

So here we are: this sweet boy needs a home! If you would please share this post and spread the word, I would very much appreciate it! (Yes, these pictures look familiar – I’ll take more today or tomorrow and add them.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Frankie showed up as a stray one night a couple of weeks ago, meowing so loudly on the front porch that I went out to see what was going on. He ran off when I spoke to him, then showed up again last weekend. We were able to pet him and pick him up and snuggle him, but when we weren’t paying attention he ran off. He showed up again earlier this week, and we whisked him off to the vet to be neutered and vetted. A combo test showed us that he is FIV positive. Please read more about FIV here: FIV is not a death sentence and positive cats can live perfectly well with other cats!
Frankie is a classic orange tabby with gorgeous swirly markings and silky soft fur. He is estimated to be 7 – 9 years old. He’s a very sweet boy – he loves people and being held. When you pick him up, he turns into you and pushes his head under your chin, presenting it for kissing. He’s happy to lay in your lap and be petted, or beside you to keep you company. He likes to talk to you and can hold up his side of the conversation quite nicely. He doesn’t howl if you aren’t around, though he might occasionally call out if he isn’t sure where you are. He’s got a very loud purr that he turns on at the drop of a hat. He will present his belly for rubbing – it’s not a trap! he really likes belly rubs! – and when he decides that the belly-rubbing is done, he’ll bunny kick your hand. But he’s very gentle and has never used his claws on the humans, which we think is very kind of him.
If introduced very slowly, he should be okay with other cats.
He comes complete with his favorite pink bed, and a huge bag of toys.
He is neutered and has been fully vetted. Please email info@ffhsv.org if interested in adopting Frankie!
He is currently located in North Alabama, near Huntsville.
(If you have any questions about him, feel free to ask!)
Please email info@ffhsv.org if interested in adopting Frankie!
Please share – thank you!
    We understand and will be sharing. Does the adopter need to be in Alabama or drive to get him? Or could we all band together to transport him to someone?
      If the right home is found, we could work on transporting him!
        I can help with transportation to NC, SC, VA, and as far as DC.
          I can go anywhere within 6 hours of DC.
        If I thought my insanely spoiled 12 year old CJ would even remotely accept a brother I would drive down right now. But change is not in his vocab.
        I could maybe help with transport. I am in Pittsburgh.
    He’s beautiful and I do have a soft spot for Gingers…. but I am not in the area and know that some family is going to get one heck of a cat!!! Sending positive thoughts that his hoomins come along soon (momentarily)! Thank you for intercepting him, vetting him, and putting his needs first. Come on, Frankie’s hoomins!
    Oh no! But I know this wasn’t an easy decision for you. There’s a good home out there for Frankie and I’ll help if transport is needed also!!
    He is certainly a beautiful boy, and looks so friendly and loving. Someone’s going to get a GREAT kitty, and he’ll have a forever home soon, I think.
    I have a huge soft spot for ginger kitties too, and some of his antics remind me of my dearly departed Pandora. But alas, I can’t take in another kitty right now, as much as I’d wish to. πŸ™ I will share in hopes that Frankie finds a good home.
    Aww, not you’ve got me teary eyed but I do understand. Everything you’ve said about him reminds me of an ornj boy I had for 18 wonderful years. RIP Vincent. If we could find a way for him to get close to NY (Buffalo area) I’d take him in a heat beat!
      If you’re serious, I’ve been looking for an excuse for a road trip, and have a long weekend coming up. The question for Robyn is how well she thinks he would do in a long car ride. I’m actually in western MA, but used to drive back and forth to Florida, so I’d be delighted to be part of (or even all) of the transport.
        what a wonderful offer, I hope that if Debbie is ready she sees this
    Robyn, I respect you and Fred so much for realizing that as much as you love Frankie, he’s just not meant to be your ornj baby in the end. It’s a difficult decision to make and I will hope that his people come along very soon.
    He sounds like such a love, his mouth pain just tugs at my heart.
    However until I get stable work, it’s not possible. I get anxious already buying Royal canin at the vets and have downgraded the wet food for my Donna.
      I have SO been there. It’s not fun.
    It takes love for the animals to know when you have your limits. Here’s hoping Frankie finds his people soon.
    I entirely understand. Sometimes a houseful is just at capacity. Darn mortal limitations, eh?
    If I were a) not in Wisconsin and b) in an apartment that allowed cats, Frankie/Malachi McCort (I’ve been calling him that for days now, thanks to Angela’s Ashes) would have a home, no question. Super sweet purry lap cat FIV+ adult kitty? Mine! *steals* Alas, and goshdarnit, circumstance! Some adopter is going to get themselves a very best friend. πŸ™‚
    He sure is handsome, and I’d take him in a sec if I could — but I can’t πŸ™
    Have to admit, I cried when I heard the news. Frankie reminds me so much of my best friend’s orange boy, Rudy. He passed last year at 23 and was sweet and a curmudgeon at the same time. Was looking forward to seeing Frankie settle in to Crooked Acres. But you guys always know what is best for kitties and I know he will get an awesome, loving home. Could you make sure his humans send updates? πŸ™‚
    Very glad he will have his part of your home with him…that pink bed.
    Robyn and Fred have worked many a miracle, and between them and the generous people willing to help with transport, Frankie will fetch up with someone who’ll adore him. Fingers crossed, and I know how tough this is for Robyn and Fred, two amazing individuals.
  15. Connie says:
    I totally understand and respect your decision. Frankie will adjust to where ever he lands
    Such a dear kitty. He must remind all of us of our own special orange kitties.
    Robyn, I’ll volunteer to help with transport. I’m in Texas, the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
