I feel like Zephyr’s ear floof has really come in recently.

Calliope sound asleep in her nighty, with some melted Zeus on the side.

Daphne, Cassandra and Pandora, out cold.

(From the top) Cassandra, Zeus (left), Zephyr and Daphne playing on the stairs.

Pandora says “HEY, I’m here too!” Yes, all five kittens were playing on the stairs.

Zeus atop the air purifier. (It’s a Levoit Vital 200S-P, bought on a really good sale earlier this year. Of all the air purifiers I’ve tried – and I have tried a LOT of them – this is the one that I like the most. It’s a keeper! I have one in the front room, one in Fred’s bedroom (that’s where the cats really like to hang out, and he turns it up at night for the white noise aspect), and one in the foster room.)

I mean, I don’t love that the kittens jump down onto it from the stairs, but there’s a child lock on it so they can’t turn it up/off so it works. (Perhaps some day companies who manufacture/market air purifiers to pet owners will realize that controls should go on the front of the unit rather than the top. Call me, Levoit! I’ll join your design team!)

Friday afternoon, I moved Calliope and the kittens out of the foster room and cleaned it.

“Why we not allowed in here, lady?”

Because the Luli & Cat Brunch Bunch/Breakfast Club kitties are here for the week, of course!

Pictures cannot do Waffle justice. He is FABULOUS. He was also a bit hissy for the first day. I don’t take it personally, though – there’s nothing less threatening than a Waffle hiss. It took him about a day to stop the hissing and now he’s fine with me.

Maple (former foster Dillydally) didn’t miss a step. She was like “Okay, we’re here now. Cool!” She greets me at the door, she comes to be petted. She is SO SOFT.

I wasn’t fast enough to catch a shot of Mocha in the cubby. Mocha started out behind the couch, moved up to the wall beds, and has been exploring more and more.

Muffin started out climbing up under the blanket on the couch, ended up climbing up into the couch cover behind the couch, and after I pulled the couch out a bit so I could reach back there and pet her, she popped her head out, said “Oh, hi!” and came right out to be petted. She’s still a little nervous, but it always takes a day or two for these guys to adapt.

No, they haven’t met the kittens – I wanted to give them a few days to acclimate – but of course that’ll happen. I will, of course, have pictures to share when it does!

So the kittens are now confined to the other side of the upstairs – the side where my bedroom is – and they’re allowed to go downstairs whenever they’d like during the day. Calliope is splitting her time between the upstairs with her kittens and downstairs in the dining room. She’s tolerating the nighty/weansie but she doesn’t LIKE it – I’m sure at this point it’s starting to get on her nerves – so I’d like her to have as much time out of it as possible. For now, during the day she’s upstairs with her kittens wearing the nighty. At night, I take the nighty off (ironic, right?) and she goes into the dining room and spends the night there. It’s working pretty well. Her milk is definitely drying up – and once it’s dried up completely, she can go back to being upstairs with her kittens all the time.

Khal, who is magnificent.

Khal hadn’t been to the vet in a while because, at his heart, he’s a feral cat. It took Fred a year and a half to tame him, and it was another year before I could touch him. Now, of course, he is just a big ol’ baby with us – but when it comes to strangers or vet visits, he reverts to his feral way. But he was due vaccinations and due to his age – he’s 12 – we wanted to get an exam done.

We’ve tried Gabapentin as a sedative in the past, and it doesn’t work for him. This time around, the vet prescribed Trazadone, and it worked really, really well. They were able to examine him and get blood, and he didn’t fight at all.

And it was all good news: no problems popped up in the exam and the bloodwork came back fine. The boy is perfect!

Queen Calliope wants none of your nonsense (and all of your Churu.)

Daphne slept through this visit from a Baltimore Oriole.

Slowwwwwww mooooootionnnnn kittttteeeeennnnnnns. (Using the slow motion setting on my phone instead of slowing it down myself.)

It’s a half-dangle, half-tuck Rumdangle from Zeus.

Is Zeus Da BAYBee? All signs point to “yes!”

Family portrait. Doesn’t Calliope look pleased?

🎉 Happy happy birthday to former fosters Jethro Tull (black and white tuxie) and TC (Thunderclap Newman), who we fostered in 2014 and are now livin’ the life in Oregon!

Bonnie says: Friday, September 11th is the official/unofficial birthday for bonded brothers Jethro Tull and TC (Thunderclap Newman). Adopted 12 years ago (in December) from Foster Parents Extraordinaire, Robyn and Fred, through the wonderful Challenger’s House, we have loved every minute of those years. We are honored to be their Meowmy and CatDad and love them so much…and as long as meal times and Churus are delivered on time, the Bama Boys think we’re pretty okay, too. (Thank you, Bonnie!)

Good night innernets. (Pandora and Zephyr)

Breakfast is served! Clockwise from Zephyr – Zephyr, Pandora, Cassandra, Daphne & Zeus. (Calliope gets her food separately so she doesn’t have to share.)

The combination of the “Who Gives a Crap” on the box and the expression on Calliope’s face is cracking me UP.

Zeus has a purrrrrrr.

I’m gonna need you to admire Cassandra’s speckled toeses, please.

We’re cat sitting! The Luli & Cat Brunch Bunch has arrived and are now in the foster room. I got a little hiss from Waffle. (I don’t take it personally. The boy knows his boundaries and isn’t afraid to express himself. I love him.) I’ll have more pics of them in the days to come, but I don’t want to be all UP in their faces taking pictures ’til they’ve had a minute to settle in.

Looks like someone told a joke and not only is Daphne cracking up, but Calliope’s looking pretty amused too. Must’ve been a good one!

Good night innernets. (Cassandra, Daphne, Calliope and Zeus)

The kittens (Daphne & Cassandra in this case) are really enjoying that box!

The Luli & Cat Brunch Bunch (or Breakfast Club, if you prefer) are settling in well. Floofy Waffle and silly Maple (former foster Dillydally, class of 2024) are taking turns with the top of that cat tree. Pretty blue-eyed Mocha came out from behind the couch to claim the wall bed for herself. And sweet, shy Muffin (former foster Ouiser, class of 2023) is still hanging out under the blanket on the couch, though she was out exploring the room a lot overnight. (Note: we are cat sitting for the week; none of these cats are available for adoption!)

Permanent resident Magoo (former foster Reverb) is quite the frog hunter…. of course, once he catches the frog he has zero idea what to do, so no frogs are harmed in the making of this video.
(Our cats are allowed in the back yard during the day; we have a cat fence around the back yard that works wonderfully to keep them contained. We bring them in at dusk, and they’re shut inside (including on the screened porch) until dawn.)

Line ’em up! Sitting on the landing, trying to decide whether they want to come downstairs or not (they ultimately did!) From left: Pandora, Cassandra, Daphne, Zeus & Zephyr.

Mocha’s movin’ on up! She moved to the top bed, maybe because it matches her eyes. (We are cat sitting Mocha and her siblings for the week; she is not available for adoption!)

Good night innernets. (Calliope & Daphne, with attitude.)
