You might have mentioned before and I’ve forgotten, but who is the kitty on your computer?
The picture I use for wallpaper on my monitor is this picture of Tricki, who we fostered in 2014. I LOVED that silly, goofy girl. And if we hadn’t had 14 cats at the time… !

I’ve seriously been thinking about getting a Roomba as well. Which one do you have or recommend?
I have the iRobot Roomba j7+ (7550) . I like it well enough, but I always say that it vacuums about as well as a teenager would – it gets the worst of it in the middle part of the room and close to the edges, but doesn’t do a great job in the corners. I usually vacuum with the “real” vacuum every 1 – 2 weeks to get all the stuff that accumulates in the corners and under the chairs and couch, but the Roomba makes it so that I don’t have to vacuum every couple of days, so I do recommend it. (I just wish it did stairs!) I should add – we also don’t have carpet, it’s all laminate downstairs. I can’t speak to how well it works on carpets.
Side note: we bought the Roomba nearly 3 years ago – Fred and I don’t buy Christmas presents for each other, but buy one big gift “for the house” – and while I hesitated for a LONG time paying that much for something that when it really came down to it we didn’t NEED, I don’t regret the purchase. It does a decent enough job, and also the fosters tend to be wary of it but not terrified…and I live in hope that one of these days one of them will climb on for a ride!

Flamenco has white toes on her front paws.

Sashay does not. (That’s Sashay in the front, Flamenco in the back.)

Cuddle puddle. From left: Tango, Sashay, Mambo & Flamenco.

Mambo gives his foot the ol’ snifferoo.

They always look so serious at this age. (Flamenco)

A stinkbug got into my office, and Esmeralda found it the MOST fascinating thing. I think it’s safe to say that she’s a bug hunter. (I did catch it and toss it out the window before she could squish or try to eat it.)

“Can’t believe you took away my toy, lady.”

In lieu of permanent resident pics, here are a few pictures from the back yard. (Gardening season is winding down, even though it’s still TOO FRICKING HOT out there.)

Stick bug! This is the first one I’ve seen (that I know of) since we moved into this house.

Silver-spotted Skipper (butterfly) on a Zinnia.

Cicada! I know they’re hideous, but I think they’re cool. And they’re the gentlest bugs who don’t want anything to do with you, either.

Volunteer Cosmos. I know I didn’t drop any seeds, so the Cosmos in the pot up and to the left must have dropped seeds.

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr/ Bluesky) yesterday.

Happy Thlurrrrpsday, from ChaCha.

Throw Back Thursday: I took this picture in 2011 (and have posted it several times since). Looking at it made me a little dizzy back then, and that hasn’t changed in 14 years. Does it make you dizzy too? (That’s permanent resident Alice and foster Bolitar waiting for dinner.)

Throw Back Thursday: With the Tiny Dancers moving past their hissing phase (there’s still a hiss here and there), I thought I’d share this video of the hissiest litter I’ve ever had: the Cardsharks! Hisses, growls and spits – those kittens were FIERCE.
Did you know I have a playlist of hissing kitten videos on YouTube (there are 50!)? Click here to see ’em.
OH WAIT. I bet I can embed the playlist. Let’s see, shall we?
Yep, that worked (well, at least for ME it did.) Thinking I need to make a page with all the playlists embedded…

This little face (Mambo) just kills me. He looks like a toothless old man asking if the dining room will be serving vanilla pudding tonight for dessert.

Throw Back Thursday: It’s been 5 years since we officially adopted Charlie (his foster name was Aramis; we changed it. He didn’t have an identity crisis, as far as I can tell. 😉 ) He would wail and wail if he could hear us on the other side of a door, thus his name became: Charles, Prince of Wails. Here’s a video showcasing his wailing.
Happy Gotcha Day Charlie, ya big goober.

Esmeralda’s blissful little face as Fred pets her. She is just the SWEETEST.

The only reason I know that Tango is on the left and Mambo is on the right is because I wrote it down so I’d remember. I still can’t tell them apart if I can’t see Tango’s green ear – though he’s the heavier of the two, so if the paint disappears from his ear, at least I can just pick them up and tell who’s who.

Good night innernets. (Sashay & Tango)

Cicadas are amazing! Such an awesome photo. I went to Canada last week for a holiday and heard one, and i was stunned at how loud they are, i thought aliens were invading, it sounded so cool!
I know how loud they are, and yet it still comes as a surprise every summer just HOW loud they can be!
Happy Gotcha Day Charlie!!!
Oh cool! I don’t think I have ever seen a stick bug where I live (Canada). Stinkbugs, however, yes. 😀
Robyn, is there any chance that you might have an update on Suzi Q’s babies? I know they were placed elsewhere. Hopefully a surrogate mama was found.
I don’t – they went to another rescue, and may very well have been adopted out by now. They were 4 months old when she showed up with them, eating well on their own and in good shape, so they didn’t really need a surrogate mama.
I’ve been thinking about why teeny kittens look so serious, and I’ve decided that partly it’s because of their flat ears…. Hmmm…. I’m sure I’ll continue thinking about this!
We don’t get stink bugs where I live (at least, not yet–I’m in Colorado, Denver-metro area) and thus I’ve never had to deal with one. But we do have an abundance of spiders and other teeny visitors that I prefer to relocate outdoors when possible, rather than just squishing them out of hand, and this thing is dead useful for the task:
https://www.arbico-organics.com/product/bugzooka-bug-catcher/garden-tools-supplies
It’s mechanical in operation (eg, no batteries to wear out) and in practice I find it can take a few tries to suck something up. But overall it works pretty well for smaller bugs, and I’ve seen it recommended in particular for dealing with stink bugs, since it lets you capture and release them in a way that (generally) doesn’t trigger the epynomous odor. I still have to resort to either a swatter or the old cup-and-postcard method here and there when things show up in the house, depending on the circumstances, but we’ve had a Bugzooka for at least 10+ years and used it quite a bit, so I would say it’s been well worth the modest price. (PS: I’d also recommend picking up a spare catch tube when purchasing one–they do get dirty over time, and it’s handy to be able to switch them out when the one in current use needs cleaning/emptying.)
I definitely need (and am going to buy) one of those! We get stinkbugs in the house this time of year and wasps in the spring. I’ve been using the cup & postcard method for those (and toss the wasps right back out the window), but I look forward to getting to know my new Bugzooka (which I am going to go order right now!)
Have you heard how patsy and Lilia are doing?
I haven’t heard anything else from Lilia’s adopters – we did get an update a few days after she was adopted, and was doing well. Patsy’s people sent me a short video the day (maybe 2 days) after she was adopted; she was playing fetch and looked perfectly at home. I didn’t share the video because it had a person in it, but will touch base with them in the next few days to see how she’s doing.
Thank you for answering. What about kirk? I’ll ask about others another day. Your posts make me smile. Thank you for sharing the happiness. ♥️
No, I haven’t had any Kirk updates in quite a while. I’m sure he’s doing fine, he was pretty happy in the updates we got for the several months afterward.
