9-4-23 Monday

The new theme, as you can see, is now live. It’s not 100% done (I still need to finish rebuilding the sidebar), but it’s pretty much done.

The header/banner at the top is set to randomize. Each time you click into the site, you should see a different banner. At the moment there are only about 10 of them, but I’ll be adding to them as I get time. If you click on the banner itself, that takes you to the home page (helpful if you’re reading an old post and want to go back to the most current post.)

If you’re on the home page, you have to scroll down to the bottom for the arrow to take you to the previous post. If you click on the title at the top (in this case, where it says “9-4-23 Monday” at the top of the post), that’ll take you to the post itself, and there’ll be navigation arrows at the top and bottom of the posts.

If you’re reading this on a mobile device (and possibly a tablet), you probably aren’t seeing the sidebar. To see the sidebar, you can scroll down past the post, past the comments, and then the sidebar should start with the calendar, the search bar, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

If you’re having any problems, let me know. I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to fix it, but I’ll certainly try!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kirk is all “She keeps POKING me! Make her STOP!”
Innocent little faces.
If I see all the kittens at the milk bar, you KNOW I’m gonna race over and take a billion pictures.
Janeway’s trying to remember what she was going to say, and Troi’s patiently waiting.
Kirk’s strolling over to see what’s going on.
Dreamy little Kes.
Here comes Troi! (The scratcher, which I was on the verge of stashing back in the closet for the next litter, suffered an unfortunate poop-related incident requiring it to be tossed in the trash. Fortunately, I have another one stashed in the closet for the next time I need one!)
They are having a blast with this bed (I call it “the cup” ’cause it kinda looks like a cup, please don’t be intimidated by my brilliant creative skills). (That, by the way, is a Furrytail BOSS Elevated Cat Bed; it was passed along to us by someone whose cats wouldn’t use it. The kittens usually like it, but these guys LOVE it.)(Note to self: Perhaps “Boss bed” would be a better name to call it?… Nah.)
Uhura’s all “Watchin’ you, lady.”
Ooh, BIG stretch, Troi!
Spock believes he’ll go for a swing on the outside of the Fruitasan.
As predicted, the kittens started eating canned food over the weekend – everyone but Spock, that is. It was like they had a meeting and all decided it was time to give the canned food a try. Janeway was the first to really dig in to the plate of food, followed very shortly by Kirk and Troi. I couldn’t get Kes to eat from the plate while I was in the room, but I checked the camera later and saw her eating. Except for Kes, they still need a little help to get going (it’s like they forget between mealtimes how much they like the canned food; once I put a little of the food in their mouths, they’re like “Oh YEAH! I like this stuff!” and then they dig in.) I don’t think it’ll be much longer ’til Spock joins the gang, he’s just doing things in his own time (as all kittens do!)
Most of the kittens are now climbing into the big litter boxes (the ones that are meant for Uhura) and using those instead of using the little litter boxes. I’ll set up the big under-bed storage container in the next few days and I expect they’ll take to it pretty immediately.
If I’d realized Newt would like hanging out on the bottom of that cat tree so much, I’d have put it there a long time ago!
Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
That crocheted fish Spock “caught” is about as big as he is.
YouTube link
Holy COW, is Troi adorable or what?
It’s a rough life, Kes.
YouTube link
BOOPing Kirk. (Featuring sounds from my stomach. Sorry. I was hungry!)
I don’t know what Spock, Troi and Kirk were doing, but they CERTAINLY look guilty.
YouTube link
She might be tiny, but Troi has NO problem knocking her bigger siblings away from the milk bar and claiming their spots for herself. Also: Kes is feelin’ pretty good (and she is just. so. CUTE.)
Good night innernets. (All the Trekkling kittens. Back left: Janeway. Back right: Kes. Middle (gray) – Spock. Middle (black and white) – Kirk. Front and center: Troi.)
The kittens are finally giving this “solid food” stuff a try and they like it quite a bit! (The pictures aren’t the greatest because I had cat food on my hands and was trying not to get it on my phone.) Between the three of them, Kirk, Janeway and Troi pretty much demolished a 3-ounce can yesterday morning. Later, Kes ate quite a bit, too. The only kitten who still isn’t interested is Spock, but that’s okay – he’ll figure it out when he’s ready.
It’s a fancy Kirk (with a very serious little face) on the Fancy Sofa!
YouTube link
Hanging out in the foster room, watching the kittens explore!
Kes is sitting with her paws crossed like a proper little laydee.
YouTube link
Troi’s walking around the foster room, telling me all about it. (She’s a talker, if you hadn’t noticed.)
Good night innernets. (Troi, Spock and Kes.)
Heeeere comes Spock!
The Trekklings are six weeks old! They look so grown up, don’t they? This week they started eating solid food (though they still need some help with it – and Spock continues to not be interested), they’re playing like little crazy things, AND they’re using Mama’s litter boxes instead of the smaller ones I had set up for them. I finally got around to making their weight chart, and you can see it here.
YouTube link
Kirk is feelin’ good (so is Kes, for that matter), and he’s feelin’ flirty. Also, Uhura has something to say.
Spock, Kirk, Troi and Janeway just hanging out, havin’ a tussle. (Kes was on the couch, snoozing.)
YouTube link
The kittens are hanging around doing what they do – Spock and Troi are fighting (Spock looked like he thought he might take a bite of Mama, and then reconsidered), Janeway is talking quietly to me, Kirk’s havin’ a scratch, and Kes is just letting her whiskers blow in the breeze. Nothing exciting, but they sure are cute.
Sure, they’re starting to eat solid food, but they’ll nurse as long as mama lets them (which is as long as they’re together, usually.) Kittens from left to right: Janeway, Spock, Kes, Troi & Kirk.
Good night innernets. (From top: Janeway, Troi, Kes and Spock. Kirk was following his mama around hoping for a shot at the milk bar.)
    Nice new design!
    And yay, I opened the site to see the Kirk and Troi fruitasan banner!! I knew that photo was banner-worthy. Does the new format make banners easier to do?
      It actually does – though Fred did something in the code to make it even easier, and I created myself a template in PicMonkey, which will make it easier for me to make them.
    Not a complaint so much as a “preference comment”, I am not fond of the font/style of the date. Maybe you could adjust it to be using the month as a word or abbreviation such as Sep 01, 2023 or switch the order to Monday 04-Sept-23 (or maybe I’ll just deal with it). The other difference is the links. Is there a chance they could be highlighted in another color instead of just underlined? Otherwise, things look very similar to the old way.
      I can’t change the date (or it wouldn’t match the previous 4,000 entries), but I’m sure I can figure out the link colors.
        The date looks classic. I love it! I don’t think a thing needs to be changed. I navigated just fine without reading directions even. Thanks for all your hard work!
    At least for these kittens, I would call the”cup” bed, the Starship Enterprise, or just the starship.
      I was just gonna say it should be the Spaceship Bed
    Love the new layout and the font. It’s very easy to read. My only comment would be to use the day of the week first followed by the date.
    Ooh the new blog layout looks so faaaancy, great work!
    And lovely photos as usual, so cute and fluffy, great to hear they are starting to realise solid food is also an awesome option too! 😀
    This litter seems to be sooo photogenic. You never have even a so-so pic, they’re all great! Kirk should be selling something, he poses so perfectly (and adorably).
    My comment as a viewer from a tablet is I don’t like having to scroll all the way to the bottom to see the content (ie, sidebar stuff, calendar, etc.). If you had hyperlinks to take you there, at the top, that would be better.
    I’m sure this new format was a lot of hard work, so thanks for always thinking of your readers to try and make things better.
    Looking at your FB page, the lost/found kitty posting didn’t make the blog. Was that intentional? I’m assuming not.
      I’ll have to poke around and see if I can add a sidebar link (if I can figure it out, it’ll be at the top near the “comments” link, most likely).
      The Uno lost/found on Facebook was a share from another page, and I don’t usually share those to the blog.
    Nice job. I’ve always thought of your “cup” bed as a satellite dish bed.
    I like it. Can read it better on white back ground.
    Looks great!! And I’m sure that was way more work than most realize. Good job!!
    P.S. Excellent caption game, as always; “Janeway’s trying to remember what she was going to say, and Troi’s patiently waiting” is absolutely perfect for that picture, haha.
    P.P.S. The site may be redesigned, but I was unreasonably happy to find that it remembered my name and email — it was like, “welcome back, old friend” 🙂
    I just love the way you name them. I love them all, but Kirk is my fave i think. Ian was my favorite of the bunch he belonged to. RIP. Idk if you named any from star wars characters, but i think they would have the best names. Also you could nake them after twilight. Also, you have a such a big , loving heart. Thank you Robyn and forgotten felines
    The new design is gorgeous! You clearly put a lot of work into it. Reads beautifully on mobile.
    Stumbled across this comic on Sunday and it made me think of the infamous Stefan And The Snake video.
