I was hoping for some advice. I have a senior kitty who has several chronic health issues, is on medication, and is slowly declining. He used to be best friends with my younger kitty, who is six. The would constantly curl up together and groom each other. But younger kitty has stopped doing that, and taken to hissing at him and even chasing him. I’m assuming that his scent has changed, and she probably senses he’s weak. But it’s breaking my heart and I don’t know how to change this behavior. Thank you for any tips.
The only suggestion I can think of would be to try separating them and re-introducing them as if they were completely unfamiliar with each other (Jackson Galaxy has videos on the topic that you can find on YouTube.) You could possibly add some Rescue Remedy to their water (it seems to calm down some cats) or add Feliway plug-ins or sprays to the environment.
I don’t have much in the way of suggestions on this; hopefully someone will chime in. How about it, y’all – got suggestions? Please share!
Do the kitties EVER notice that the others have found homes? You think they miss them or just enjoy their wonderful life there with you? Do the rehomed kittens ( adopted)….miss your home & the fellowship of the litter. Probably a silly question as none seem to miss the others!
As far as I can tell, the kittens who’ve left – as well as the ones left behind – don’t really seem to miss the other kittens. The ones left here after the other kittens have left seem a little puzzled at first, but they adapt and adjust almost immediately.
What brand of catnip do you use?
Yeowww! brand catnip is what I almost always buy.
(BTW, what’s that little pink spot under Constance’s mouth? I’m guessing breakfast?!)
Yes, if you see a pink or orange spot under Constance’s mouth, it’s food. I scrub it off once a day, but don’t want to do it more often than that because I don’t want to irritate her skin.
Regarding that banner pic, if you could do both that would be great! If that’s asking too much then putting it on Zazzle would be super so I could order some merch with it. Reusable bags are always needed at my house. 🙂
You can see this pic on a tote bag over at Zazzle, here. And I’m pretty sure that if you scroll down past the product, you have an option to use the picture on any of their other products, and they have a ton of products.
Anyone who wants the pic itself can email me at mizrobyn (at) gmail.com – I’m happy to share it, I just don’t want to post an unwatermarked version.
Aramis is all “May I present my foot?” Indeed you may, Aramis.
Sleepy Miss Constance (and yes, the ever-present bit of food under her mouth.)
“You ain’t scrubbin’ my chin, lady.”
Aramis shows off his beautiful stripes.
It’s bird-watchin’ time for d’Artagnan.
Athos is all “Watchin’ you, lady. Watching. YOU.”
Oh that Aramis and his sweet little face!
The pumpkin spice Athlatte is back!
“What doin’, weird lady?” Constance wonders.
Constance loves to flop over the side of that bed and sleep like that. It makes my back hurt just to look at her.
Rochefort’s spotted belly is DELIGHTFUL.
Archie’s recharging. Never know when another dishtowel is going to need some bunnykicking!
2019: You’re darn right I rolled him over to get this picture.

2017: “Right here, lady. On the belly!”
2016: Apparently #Stefan fits nicely on the new kitty couch.

Awww….Archie looks so angelic while he’s napping 😀
Sleeping Archie is adorable! As in Athos! I’m not really an orange cat person — tuxies are usually my downfall — but there is just something about that little ginger boy!
About the writer with the younger cat picking on the elder. Something I thought of and I’m no expert is to wipe the younger cat’s fur with a cloth and then immediately the older cats fur so he smells more like his “companion”. I’ve seen my dogs lord it over the weakling of the bunch though not aggressively.
Yikes, my back hurts just seeing Constance flop over the side like that…
Somewhere I have a picture of a baby Malcolm sleeping with most of his body out of his bed, on his back, mouth open, paws over his head and head resting on the hardwood floor. The part of his wee self still on the bed amounted to oh, maybe 10% of bed surface area.
