With Mimosa out of the house for her spay surgery, we brought Uncle Charlie into the room to meet the kittens.

Kudzu and Bramble got all up in Charlie’s space.

And Charlie said “How does this door open, again?”

Clover and Mondo came over to see what was going on, Bramble continued wearing his floof suit, and Charlie gave Clover the ol’ snifferoo.

Bramble had Feelings.

Hollyhock said “Hey, who’re YOU?”

Fred got out a teaser to see if we could get Charlie and the kittens to play.

Mondo and Kudzu got closer.

Kudzu said “Mister, this seems like a Floof Suit and Ears of Annoyance occasion.”

Mondo sniffed Uncle Charlie even more, and Hollyhock said “You can’t fool me, lady. This is a stranger.”

Mondo said “I just don’t underSTAND. I didn’t know there was other cats in existence!”

Hollyhock said “Oh, jeez! I forgot to put on my Floof Suit! I am so rude!”

Mondo floofed.

And when Charlie left the room, Mondo floofed some more. Because that’s just how he is.

Charlie was a little wary of entering the kitten room – not because he’s scared of kittens (he’s seen the Floof Suits before. He ain’t scared of no silly little kittens) but because Mimosa has been VERY protective of her kittens. Charlie likes to sniff at the bottom of the foster room door, and with past litters it hasn’t really been a big problem – but Mimosa would reach under the door as far as her Slapping Paw could reach, and she would slap very seriously. I finally had to put a piece of cardboard in front of the foster room door so that he couldn’t sniff at the door and she couldn’t see him, because she was spending so much time growling under the door at him.

For the first visit, he only wanted to stay a minute or two. A few hours later he went in for a little bit longer, and then yesterday morning he actually asked to go in. He still didn’t want to stay long, but he was more relaxed for the time he was in there.

Of course, with Mimosa back here now, Charlie won’t be able to go into the foster room. But I’m planning to start taking the kittens downstairs occasionally, a few at a time, as a sort of “field trip,” so perhaps there will be future Floof Suit pictures. We can hope, right?

Breakfast is served! From top going clockwise: Clover, Bramble, Hollyhock, Mondo & Kudzu.

The kittens met Uncle Charlie VERY briefly yesterday and Bramble donned his floof suit for the occasion.

Mimosa was spayed yesterday and spent the night at the vet’s. I brought her home this morning, and the kittens didn’t react to her smelling different… until Kudzu did!

(The video is from a couple of hours ago. Kudzu has relaxed. Mimosa’s mostly interested in eating. The kittens have been playing (with each other) nonstop. I expect they’ll all crash for their afternoon naps pretty soon.)

You may notice that Mimosa is not wearing a cone – the vet uses surgical glue, and I’ve never had a problem with cats/kittens messing with their incisions. I will keep an eye on her and put a cone (or more likely a onesie!) on her if it’s necessary, of course.

A Bramble-Clover taco sounds like just the perfect way to celebrate Taco Tuesday, doesn’t it? (The Forgotten Felines of Huntsville online auction is currently going on right now – and a taco bed just like this one is one of the items up for bid! Go check it out! See everything available for bid here, and the taco bed here.)

Bramble’s new skill. (Also, he’s a little bit crazy. In the best way!)

Good night innernets. (Bramble)

The FLOOF SUITS- so cute and funny . Reading your posts are both endearing and very interesting, Robyn! Have you ever written a book? You should! Two authors in one marriage, OYE VEY! The kittens are maturing so fast. Fascinating the encounters between Charlie and the sprouts, especially BRAMBLE and kudzu. Hollyhock was curious, but cautious. Wonderful to see Mimosa back from surgery and thank you for putting up with her yowling (poor mama).

I didn’t realize you had many permanent furry residents. How many do you have and do you have any dogs? Once again, thank you for everything that you do and taking care of the beautiful sprouts and their mama.

      No, I’ve never written a book. I don’t have the patience. 🙂

We’ve got 7 permanent residents – you can see them all here. We don’t have any dogs currently – we used to have two Great Pyrenees dogs when we lived on more land (they protected the chickens), but they passed away several years ago, and then we moved to the city… and then back to the country. (We don’t intend to get any more dogs, but are still considering chickens!)

I just love when Uncle Charlie gets to visit the foster room, & the kittens put on their floof suits!

The little ones look quite chilled out and curious with Charlie! This is great to see them meet Charlie. I’ve been following the Facebook feed. Each post puts a smile on my face to see the Sprouts (and Mom) growing. Thank you.

How have I never noticed Charlie’s dark toe before? Adorable! Is that the only one?

It is just the one dark toe. We call it his magic toe! 🙂

Of course Hollyhock was all brave and curious.

Do you think Mimosa’s reaction to Charlie means she’ll need to be a solo cat, or is it only that she’s being protective of the babies and she’d be okay with other cats when she doesn’t have babies to protect?

I think that as long as she’s introduced slowly, she’ll be fine with other adult cats. Once she doesn’t have to worry about her kittens, she’ll be able to relax.

I must say that I am a big fan of the Uncle Charlie/Floof Suit pictures!!! Esp. Bramble – HEE!

As for Mondo in the “I just don’t underSTAND” picture, that little face in the mirror is cracking me up!!!

I apologize if you’ve already answered this, but do the kittens actually go to sleep cuddled up with a teddy bear, or do you sneak it under their paws after they’re asleep? It’s got to be one of the most adorable things I’ve ever seen.

    1. Robyn says:

Most of the time I sneak the teddy bear (or other stuffed animal) under their paws, but that picture of Bramble with the teddy bear, he was just like that when I walked into the room, and I nearly tripped over myself to sneak close enough and take the picture without waking him up!
