Some of you might not remember or know this, but way back in 2008, Kara was our very first pregnant cat. She was huge, and she waited about 24 hours and then gave birth to four kittens.

One of those kittens was Inara. Here’s one of my favorite pictures of Kara and Inara.

And here’s a shot of Inara a bit older.

Those are her sister Kaylee’s paws – she reached in and grabbed at Inara just as I took the picture. Cracks me UP.

Inara is now living in Madison, she’s 9 years old – which is amazing to me – and her name is Dora. (When Katherine adopted her, I mentioned that I’d been calling her Dora, because she was a little explorer, and the name stuck.)

She and her brother Baby went to the vet last week for their annual checkups, and it appears that Dora was not pleased with this turn of events.

Isn’t she GORGEOUS? Word has it that she weighs 14 1/2 pounds.

“Hey! RUDE! Don’t tell the innernets how much I weigh!”

Like Kara, Dora is a very muscular cat – and they’re both excellent hunters. I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!

(Thanks for letting me share, Katherine!)

Stardust is turning into such a little poser. And look at those ears, creaking slowly upward.

Phoenix, keeping an eye on me.

Hubble, also keeping an eye on me. I think he thought he could touch me from there, so maybe not so much on the depth perception just yet.

Telstar, keeping an eye on me also. I must be pretty fascinating.

Aurora streeetching.

Posers. Left to right: Stardust, Telstar, Phoenix.

That boy (Hubble) and his tongue.

Stardust, considering leaving the nest.

Little posers!

Telstar and that tongue.

The kittens are leaving the nest more and more now. Last night, I went in to sit down with Mercury and the kittens and as soon as I spoke to the kittens, Stardust charged out of the nest, came right over to me, and sat and stared at my leg. They’re all completely calm about being picked up and snuggled and they’re not sure what the deal is with kisses, but they withstand kissing with good humor.

I told them the tale of Andouille, the eating-on-his-own-at-18-days-old kitten, but they weren’t at all impressed and seem to be of the opinion that I made it up. They don’t seem inclined to even much leave the area around the nest yet. That’s okay – we’ve got all the time in the world for them to figure that out.

Video! Telstar refuses to say hi – but he does move his ears adorably and looks cute.

Dennis and his gorgeous eyes. Oh, I just cannot stand how beautiful that boy is!

Dora is definitely aDORAble!!! (I know, too early for originality! it’s Monday…) Ooooohhhhh the babies are fast approaching ‘my favorite age’!!! The age when they’re ‘toddling’ (waddling) about, figuring out all their ‘catness glory’, exploring, wondering, wandering… ooooh, soon for the puffed crab/sideways walk… Much like Fall… it is coming… and I cannot wait!!!! Squeeeeeeeee!

One of my little orphan kittens that I’ve been feeding has disappeared. Suzanne wasn’t there yesterday for either meal and no sign of her this morning. If anyone could spare a good thought or a prayer for her, it would be much appreciated.

Joni, I hope she shows back up. I’ve been watching the kittens on your FB feed, and they are a gorgeous bunch.

They are gorgeous and so sweet. If I’m petting one of them, I often feel another one softly pat me with a little paw so I will turn around and give them some loving too. I’m going on vacation in a couple of weeks and I had made arrangements for someone to feed them for me but now that doesn’t seem like enough. I’m trying to find someone who will keep them while I’m gone and if I can’t, I may board them at the vet’s office. Not ideal but they’ll be safe at least. The guy who owns the property where they are located will be there combining corn, likely the week while I’m gone, and I think that would just scare them to half to death and I just can’t take that chance.

Any sightings? I hope she is OK… Prayers

Sadly, no. She hasn’t been there since Saturday night and she’s never wandered before. I know the first time is always the first time but I live in a very rural area, where I feed these babies is behind an empty house in the middle of a corn field and there are unfortunately many natural predators.

Dora has grown into a gorgeous cat! Good to see the update.

Those kittehs are losing their “monkey ears” so fast. They’ll be miniature tigers soon, zooming around with abandon.

    Love, love love updates.

Poor Dora, I feel for her. I imagine she’s five seconds from this:

Great to see how healthy and happy Dora is. Kittens are adorable, but I love the grown-ups. You know it, Dennis. And Robyn, you ARE fascinating!

  7. Dee says:

I’m puzzled. In the picture of Dora with her sister’s paws, she seems to be missing some orange patches that appear in the kitten and vet pictures. Specifically, the orange patch over her right eye, and then the patch under her left eye. I know the fur patterns can change as they age, but it seems weird that it was orange, turned brown, then went back to orange as she aged. Or is it just me?

    1. Robyn says:
      August 28, 2017 at 5:20 pm

It’s either the lighting, or (more likely) actually a picture of her sister Zoe. I didn’t look that closely at the picture, just went with it as being Dora since that how I tagged it back in 2008!

      1. Dee says:
        August 29, 2017 at 7:55 am

I wondered if it might be Zoe. But they’re all so cute, it hardly matters. 🙂

Yes, Andre (Andouille) started eating at 18 days old and he hasn’t stopped since! That is what happened to Bill’s face this morning. He got in the way of Andre and Bella’s “wake up people we are starving” morning crazies. Both of them also ran over Bill’s shoulder (he had rotator cuff surgery last week) for good measure. So I got up and fed them. They finished off their food and were back racing around the bedroom before I could rinse the can and get back into bed.

Joni, Hope Suzanne shows back up. Sending positive thoughts your way.

Uh-oh! Watch out with Stardust! That’s how I got my Sugar! We were planning on keeping mom but no kittens, but as soon as Sugar could crawl, she crawled into my lap, looked up at me and fell asleep! I looked at her and said, ‘crap.’ We kept her and one brother and found homes for the other two and mom.

These kittens are just the cutest ever! Right? Right? Oh, wait – do I say that with every litter? Probably, but it’s always true!

Look at Dora! sure grew up pretty!!!

I have it now! I said before that the mark on Phoenix’s face was a quote mark, but only one so only half of what she says is true.. But I know what it is now! You know how space missions are numbered? Apollo 13, etc. Well, she’s marked roman numeral 2! She’s Phoenix II! *mic drop* (unless someone else already pointed that out, haven’t had time to read all comments lately..)
