We had guys working in the house yesterday, and it was as though we suddenly had no cats at all. Fred started worrying about Alice and Jake, because the guys who were doing the work had attic access doors open, and you know how things go around here, it would be JUST LIKE one of our cats to disappear into the attic never to be seen again. He located them both, hiding behind the refrigerator in the laundry room. We herded Jake outside, but Alice preferred to go on top of the cabinets in the kitchen.

I had to take pictures of where she ended up.


Not only in the same bed as Dewey, but BEHIND him, as though he was protecting her.

Awww.

The only cat who didn’t care that there were strangers in the house was Newt, who walked right past them and went about his day as usual. It made me miss Miz Poo, who would have been ALL up in their business. That girl never knew a stranger.

It has turned cold here (relatively speaking), so Fred got out the kerosene heater. What you can’t tell from this picture is that it was parked about 6 inches from me. Bliss. I was nearly as melted flat as Stefan.


Frankie is JUST so pleased with himself. Don’t you want to adopt him? You know you do!

  1. Alice and Dewey sitting in a tree….
    All my cats disappear when someone comes over, except my Sidney. He is a social butterfly. By the time the Comcast guy was leaving, he was calling him, ‘Hey, little buddy”. That is my boy! 🙂

  3. It strikes me that Dewey has similar colorations as Corbie. Is that just my imagination?
    Also, do you have more orange cats or more brown tabby?

  5. My kitties are definitively alert to “stranger danger.” They are nowhere to be found if someone they don’t know is in the house.

    I have a question about the kerosene heater. Does it give off a noticeable odor? I’ve been thinking that we really need to have some kind of back-up heat in case we have a power outage in the winter.

    1. The only time I smell kerosene is if Fred has splattered a little when he’s filling the heater. Otherwise, I might smell just the very faintest odor when he first turns it on, but that’s it. They do sell stuff that you can add to the kerosene to cover up the kerosene smell, but I don’t know that that would be any improvement.

  6. Harley and Allie know when someone is coming to the door before I do – Allie in particular will dash downstairs, which is funny, since she has to go right past the front door, where the stranger is standing, to do so! The late lamented Simon, though — he was great at “helping out”! Once, though, I had a plumber in the house who I though was pretty skeezy (is that a word? you know what I mean!) and Simon growled at him!! That was the only time that plumber was there!

    1. Yes, if things would ever calm down around here! 🙂 I can’t promise I’ll have it updated by Friday, but I will aim for NEXT Friday, how’s that?
