I shared her post on Facebook yesterday, but am posting here to let y’all know that former foster Hook (he was Puff, one of Khaleesi’s kittens) passed away yesterday. Selena said:

It is with a heavy heart that I said goodbye to my sweet Hook today. He has been the sweetest kitty boy since he came home with me in the summer of 2013. He loved his humans, his best big brother Flynn, ham, cat treats, and drinking water out of the bathroom sink. He was the most gentle cat I’ve ever had. He will be missed by all of us.

In case you missed it on social media yesterday, we have a new (adult) foster. SHE IS NOT PREGNANT and DOES NOT HAVE KITTENS. (Pardon the caps and bolding, but I want it to be clear!)

Her name is Chanterelle (I am pronouncing it “Shon-TRELL” because according to Google there are several different ways to pronounce it, and that’s the one that appealed most to me. You may feel free to pronounce it however your heart desires.)

She came from our local animal control, a stray turn-in. I thought briefly that she might be pregnant, but pretty quickly doubted that. She went to the vet Tuesday, and (drum roll please) is NOT pregnant. She’s scheduled for her spay surgery on Monday, and will pretty much be ready for adoption after that.

The vet aged her at 5 – 6 years, so we’re splitting the difference and calling her 5 1/2.

She is VERY VERY sweet. A little timid at first – for her first day she hid.

Under the bed.

Under the blanket hanging down in front of the couch.

But every time I touched her, she started purring immediately. After about half a day, she started coming out to jump up on the couch and be petted. And you can pet this girl FOREVER. You know how some cats get overstimulated after a while and will (hopefully gently) bite? I petted her constantly for close to an hour yesterday, and she never bit or grabbed me. She did eventually get up and go back under the bed for a few minutes, but then came right back out when I called her.

LOVES a belly rub.

SO SO SO pretty.

Did I mention she loves a belly rub?

“Why you stop petting me, lady?”

Milo and Magoo are perfectly fine with losing access to the foster room. I actually shut them out several days ago, cleaned the room very very thoroughly, and they just reacted to the closed door like “Well, I guess that room is gone now. Oh well.”

Occasionally when I go into the foster room, Milo will come sniff at the door, but he’s not all that interested. He and Chanterelle sniffed at each other when she was in her carrier on the way to the vet the other morning, and neither hissed or growled or really much reacted other than some polite interest, so I’m going to guess that she’s fine with other cats as long as they’re introduced properly.

In any case, if you’re interested in adopting her (please don’t even consider it if you’re not looking for a lap cat!) you can inquire by emailing Forgotten Felines of Huntsville at info (at) ffhsv.org or filling out an application right here.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Magoo and Milo are all “Hiiii everyone! We’re still here and cuter than any ol’ medium-hair calico, whatever that is.”
Magoo gets grabby with Milo.
I love it when they spread out their whiskers like that.
Khal and Charlie are all “Yayyyy. Little brothers. Just what we never wanted.”
Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr/ Bluesky/Threads) yesterday.
Milo (formerly Rum) in the catnip pot. I thought he might Rumdangle, but I had just watered the plant, and so apparently it was not conducive to a danglemoment. He left the pot right after I took this picture.
SHE IS NOT PREGNANT. SHE DOES NOT HAVE KITTENS.
Say hi to our newest foster, Chanterelle. She’s a medium-hair calico who was a stray turn-in at our local animal control. We thought briefly that she might be pregnant, but a visit to the vet yesterday told us that she definitely is NOT. She’s about 5 1/2 years old, and hopefully will only be here briefly – she’s scheduled for her spay next Monday, and then she’s pretty much ready to go!
She is a little timid (will hide at first), but is SUPER friendly once she gets past that – now when I sit down and call to her, she runs right over to roll around and be petted. She’s got an immediate purr the instant you touch her. She is the SWEETEST little velcro kitty who doesn’t like to be left alone for long. Looking for a lapcat? Here’s your girl. Email Forgotten Felines of Huntsville at info (at) ffhsv.org to inquire.
      Thank you! Flynn has been extra cuddly since Hook got sick last week but he’s dealing much better than Hook would have been had Flynn gone first. We will both miss that silly boy.
        I’m so sorry to hear about Hook’s passing. I loved seeing his updates; he was a good-looking boy. Do you mind if I ask what happened?
          Kidney failure. I’m sure it’s been developing over time but his decline was rapid and he was gone quickly. He was still in good shape until about 2 weeks ago.
    “If you’re introduced in adopting her…” should be corrected to “interested in adopting…”
    She is adorable! Her nose triangle reminds me of Rocco’s. Looking forward to some babies soon, or are you now a foster for older kitties?
    Rest in peace Hook.
    Congratulations on the adoption of Magoo and Milo! I remember watching Mr. Magoo when I was a kid.
    And Chanterelle is a cutie and seems sweet. Hope she gets adopted fast.
