I hope you’re all having a wonderful (relaxing!), happy day. I cut and paste the following every year because although they are recycled words, they hold 100% true:

You guys are the best, and I appreciate you so very much. Thank you for coming back here to read and comment or lurk – and for some of you (so many of you!) for adopting kittens from us. It’s been a great, kind of crazy, and sometimes downright awful year, and I hope 2024 is a little calmer and a lot safer, with no losses for any of us.

I’d most likely keep this blog going even if no one was reading – I don’t know that I’d ever be able to remember when certain events happened without this handy blog to serve as my diary to be honest – but you guys make it so much better, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Festivus – whatever holiday you celebrate (or don’t) I hope you are warm, happy, safe, healthy, and well-fed.

This year’s cover kitty for the Love & Hisses holiday card was…

Khal!

Inside: Have a simply magnificent holiday season and a warm and wonderful 2024.

The scanned holiday cards I’ve received so far can be seen here, or you can scroll through them below. (I know there are more on the way; I’ll scan and add them when they arrive.)

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) this weekend.

I turned on the TV in the foster room (probably for the first time since I’ve had these guys!) and put a video on for the kittens (one of the YouTube videos with squirrels and birds), and Ouiser was FASCINATED.

From 2005: Sugarbutt in the Christmas tree! I had quite the dilemma: get him out of the tree or grab the camera. I think I made the right choice.

From 2005: Mister Boogers, who always had this baleful look on his face but was actually the absolute sweetest. I promise you he was purring, even though the look on his face conveys the message “Ho ho ho eff you.”

From 2016: Dennis, who was the absolute most beautiful boy, and you’ll never convince me otherwise.

The kittens really LOVE tussling on my bed (probably ’cause it’s soft and there are pillows to hide between and behind.) My personal favorite part is about a minute and a half in, when Shelby comes out from between the pillows and hop-bounces across the bed.

From 2003 (I think – could have been 2002!) – Santa Tubby, who was probably the first cat we ever put a Santa hat on (and who tolerated it well!)

Good night innernets. (Drum)

From 2010: Reacher (who was one of the Bookworms litter). This is still one of my very favorite pictures (I have a lot of favorites, as you might have guessed), and it makes me smile every time I see it.

From 2011: permanent resident Tom Cullen, who put up with a lot of my shenanigans. (Tommy was the very best boy.)

From 2011: permanent resident Jake, who was always the very best poser (and also the sweetest boy ever.)

From 2011: permanent resident Spanky; I love this picture. (We had Spanky from the time he was 10 weeks old until he was 17 years old. He was rarely in possession of the one brain cell all orange tabbies pass around, but he was the very sweetest boy.)

From 2019: permanent resident Frankie, who showed up on our doorstep one day and never left. He always had an opinion and wasn’t shy about sharing it, and was always perfectly fine with being hugged and kissed. He was the SWEETEST (I am aware that I’m saying that about all the permanent residents today, but I can’t help it, it’s TRUE.)

From 2021: permanent resident Charlie is a dapper fellow and always ready to pose (if there’s Churu involved).

YouTube link
Clairee is feeling very floofy and skittery today! (She and Drum both seem very prone to floofing for no reason at all. Check out the ridge on her back as she gives Drum the “You want a piece of me?!” look.)

Permanent resident Alice Mo always looks so serious, but she was looking at her Daddy when I took this picture (in 2021), so that’s her look of love. (I run a distant second… no, third. I’m pretty sure ham – preferably fed to her by her Daddy – outranks me.)

Good night innernets. (Clairee)

From 2013: foster Tony Soprano wasn’t sure about all the lights, but he didn’t mind that reindeer hat one little bit.

From 2021: Foster Ivy (who faked her way into our foster room by pretending to be pregnant) wondered why there was no Churu hanging on this wreath. (Bonus: If you look closely at a couple of the balls, you can see the reflection of me gesticulating to get her to look at me.)

From 2020: Aldi sells holiday-themed wine bottle sweaters. I don’t drink wine, so I had to find another use for them. Foster Buffalo Bill wasn’t sure it was his his kind of thing.

From 2022: Foster Nacho nailed that wide-eyed look of amazement, didn’t she? You BELIEVED she was seeing Santa with an armload of presents just for her.

From 2020: Foster Pretzel didn’t mind being buried in a pile of tinsel as long as there was a treat on the other side of this photo session.

From 2022: Foster kitten Saul always got the crazy eyes when there was a green bean toy nearby.

From 2015: Rein-kitten Stefani, 🎶Up on the housetop, purr purr purr🎶

From 2021: fosters Alfie Alfredo & Christopher Chutney; with a thlurrrp like that, you KNOW there’s been a Churu involved in the making of this picture.

From 2020: Foster kitten Fritter wanted to be properly dressed up for the holiday. Such a dapper fellow!

Good night innernets, from Shelby, Drum, Clairee and Ouiser, who have no intention of sleeping because they heard there will be PRESENTS for them (more toys? Yes, please!) in the morning!
