She is such a crazy girl.

She swings! She… misses!

You can see that his eye, while not at 100%, is much better. It’s still a bit red and you can see the inner eyelid when he first opens his eyes, but I think he’s okay to go back to Petsmart tomorrow, as planned.

“Oh, LORD, why did I have that last snort of catnip?!”

“I TOLD YOU not to!”

“No one ever listens to me.”

All three boys – Batman, Robin, and Kennebec/Lunk – are off to Petsmart tomorrow morning. Things are going to be super quiet around here without them racing around like their tails are on fire. I hope they’re all three adopted super quickly. Fingers crossed!

Of course, I have plenty of pictures of them I’ll be sharing for the rest of the week. What can I say? They’re such photogenic characters!

“Once again, I’m on the wrong side of the door. ::sigh::”

“Hey.”
“Hey.”
“Whatcha doin’?”
“Sitting here waiting for someone to let me in.”
“I could let you in. But I won’t.”
“Let me in.”
“No.”
“Please?”
“No.”

“SOMEBODY LET ME IN, I’M GOING TO FREEZE TO DEATH!”

HOW do you take pictures and play with da bird at the same time?? I’d love some action shots of my Boo Radley but I’d need an extra hand!!

Robyn, I’ve watched your blog for a long while now so you’re my authority on rescues. I’ve just brought a fresh off the streets rescue and am looking for some advice or references to read. Also found out she’s FIV+. Have you had any FIV+ fosters? Can you point me in the direction of some help on how safe it is to integrate her into my house? I have one FIV- male. they are both very sweet so I’m hoping if I take a slow, easy time of introducing them, there would be no fighting. It seems like that’s the only way this disease is passed on. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thank you so much.

Donna-I’m sure Robyn will chime in but I saw this and thought I would direct you to Kelly’s blog (she’s linked on the side). She has just recently posted about FIV last week with a few very informative posts. Her blog title is Whiskers in the Window. The posts are “And now for the news” and “Just the facts” just search the post links on the right on her page.

Donna, I think you’ve got the gist of it – FIV is passed through deep bites, not through casual contact, so I don’t think you’re putting your FIV- boy at risk. Kelly did some excellent posts about FIV over on her blog, this one, and this has lots of information about FIV, and check her comments, there are good links in there, too.

You’ll definitely want to make the introductions slow and low-key, with lots of supervision.

I hope that helps – let me know if you have any questions, I might not be able to answer them, but you know I’ve got a community of awesome people here who are more than willing to chime in. πŸ™‚

Thank you for the re-direct Holly and Robyn! Donna, from everything I’ve learned it really is only the deep puncture bite that puts your negative boy at risk. I was learning as I went with this litter so some of my earlier information may not be entirely accurate as my readers and the links that I followed later corrected a few things. If the kitties are unlikely to fight (and by that I mean blood-drawing battles, not typical kitty smack-downs), the anti-bodies are unlikely to be passed from one to another. They can share bowls, litter boxes, beds, anything without an issue. I can’t link it now, but if you find the post called “Match the Mama” (which I believe was last Monday) you’ll find a list of links at the bottom that I found most helpful.

PS— I have a litter of 4 kittens from a FIV+ mama who all tested negative. If they went through pregnancy, delivery, and nursing without contracting the antibodies, I would think it would be okay for a negative and positive to live together.

I know your initial question was about introducing them… take it slow. I kept Norman on the other side of a door for a week after bringing him home. Once a day, I would switch him and Simba’s sides of the doors. They could “check each other out” through smell without coming face to face. By the time they met, it was “Oh… you’re the one!” Jackson Galaxy recommends feeding them on opposite sides of the same door so they associate the good (food) with the other cat. Never tried that one, but it seems to work for the cats on his show. Good luck with your kitties!

Robyn-your captions crack me up! Batman should have opened the door and should NOT have done that last snort of catnip.

Ummmm, no, no I don’t think Lunk’s eye is well enough yet to go back to Petsmart. He definitely needs to stay a little longer!! πŸ˜‰

I’m sure the boys will be adopted fast. Who could possibly resist those adorable faces πŸ™‚ I would adopt them if I could. Mind you I have wanted to adopt all the kitties I have gotten to know reading your blog. It would be so easy to become a cat hoarder. A responsible one though !!

Saw this picture today and thought you might like it. http://media-cache-ec4.pinterest.com/originals/66/73/31/667331c3c5b8a74dbcd3abe8a6153e90.jpg I hope I did this right. If not just go to google images and type in “PFFFT to those who don’t like kitty cats”

I am seriously jealous that you got to feed a tiger cub. This is on my bucket list. I have been pretty close to tigers and have even petted one ( my arm through a cage). My next step is a to hold a tiger cub.

Ha, that pic is great (and so true!)

It was so neat to be able to hold and pet and feed the tiger cub. I don’t think he was too impressed with me – he was more interested in the lady who runs the sanctuary, who he viewed as his mama – but it was a once in a lifetime experience, for sure!

I hate traveling. i hate being away from my house. I HATE airplanes.. i say this only to make sure you understand that if you get another chance to pet a tiger, you better tell me and I will be there before you can say “do you want to go?”

    1. admin says:
      February 25, 2013 at 12:16 pm

I will definitely keep that in mind! πŸ˜€

I know a great place where you can get a chance to pet a tiger !!!!!! You would have to come to Alberta, Canada to see them.

Remember the Animal Planet show “Awesome Pawsome”? My bucket list is to go to New Zealand and see and pet the tigers there.
