I’ve been taking Sebastian upstairs to the foster room to visit the big kittens for the past several days. It’s gone well!
Sebastian giving Matilda the ol’ snifferoo.
Hazel has been the most interested in him. She’ll sniff him, pat his head, and has even been spotted giving him a lick or two.
Margarita has been mostly puzzled by him. “Whatchoo mean there’s something smaller than me?!”
First shot of all 7 kittens! (Sebastian is back there by the pink donut bed/scratcher.)
“This is all very interesting!”
Checking out the Matilda pie. (His favorite!)
Benji’s like ::pat::pat:: “You’re alright, kid!”
Yesterday morning I brought him upstairs before I fed the kittens. When he came over to see what they were so excited by, I set him by a plate of food…
And he shared a plate with Margarita (left) and Matilda.
Margarita was all “WHAT IS THAT – oh, it’s that kid.”
Hazel and Nigel were having a tussle, and Sebastian went trotting by, all “Oh, I’m not getting involved with THAT.”
So all in all, it’s gone well. The big kittens (and it cracks me up to consider Margarita a “big” kitten) are pretty gentle with him. For the most part they ignore him when they’re playing, but they’ve tried a few rounds of Slappy Paws, and will kind of jump at and around him. They play so hard and are so endlessly energetic that he gets overwhelmed just watching them after a while and so I take him back downstairs to his crate. I’m taking him to “visit” 4 or so times a day now, and have decided that when I feed them I want him in there too – the best way to convince him that canned food is a good thing is for him to see how over-the-top excited they get when I put down the plates.
He’s certainly not ready to be in the room with them all the time, but that time is coming. Yesterday I saw him bunny-kicking the blanket in his crate, and he also will “wrestle” with the stuffed kitty, too.

Charlie’s guarding my tomato plants (and lying on an anthill while he’s at it. I checked him over when he left the raised bed, and he was ant-free, so I guess they didn’t consider him a threat.)

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr/ Bluesky) yesterday.
Nigel briefly had possession of the brain cell, but then it floated away.
It’s a showdown between Benji and Matilda!

Fun new toy! There was a small palmetto bug hanging out on the wall, so I scooped it up in a cup and let the kittens bat the cup around. I’m not sure whether it was the bug IN the cup, or the cup itself they found so fascinating. Benji did not care for the sound of the cup sliding around on the floor, so ran to hide, but he eventually came over to me for some love. (The bug was released outside unharmed.)
A post-bottle snuggle with Sebastian.

Heeeere comes Sebastian. I love to watch this boy toddle across the floor!
They’re getting better at these group photos! From left: Monty, Benji, Hazel, Nigel, Margarita, and (in front) Matilda.
Good night, innernets. (Monty)
