Imagine my surprise when I looked out onto the back porch a couple of days ago and saw…
I had JUST thought to myself “Interesting that Smitty and Pete aren’t showing any interest in the back porch yet.” They’d seen Magoo, Charlie and Khal go in and out, but hadn’t spent any time sniffing around the cat door or anything. Which was fine with me – I wanted them to figure it out on their own and didn’t mind the idea that they’d be a bit older.
Obviously Smitty heard my thoughts, because out he went.

Pete said “How’d he get out there? I don’t get it!”

Meanwhile, Magoo was showing Smitty the ropes. “This is the favorite cat tree. Everyone loves it ’cause it’s so tall.”

“And they have these cool walkways!”

A short while later… “Wow!” said Pete.

Smitty flew. (There’s another cat tree just off camera, and Smitty had no problem making the leap.)

Smitty rolled around on the rug and grabbed for Charlie.

“Whee!” said Pete. (And yes, he stuck the landing nicely.)

“They’re not coming out HERE, are they?” says Khal.
Smitty and Pete have been out on the back porch many times since they initially figured it out. They haven’t been out into the back yard yet – they see the other cats out there, but haven’t attempted going out yet, I think they’re still getting comfortable with the screened porch. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before they decide to see what’s through THOSE cat doors, but I’m okay with them taking their time.
(No Rocco picture because he was out freeloading elsewhere.)

Breakfast is served! Clockwise from lower left: Smitty, Pete, Khal and Magoo, with Charlie off to the side. (Charlie always waits ’til everyone else is done eating and bats cleanup.)

🎉 Canasta’s daughter Betty (left; formerly Fizzbin, 2021) looks SO content, doesn’t she? (Thanks, Michelle!)

⏪THE DAILY REWIND⏪ From 2023, Troi had an opinion at 2 weeks old, and as it turned out she had an opinion when she was 12 weeks old, too! (She was so CUTE.)

Snoopervisor Magoo has to work the morning shift at the taco truck because both employees called in “sleepy.” You just cannot get good help these days!

Rocco gets an escort. Someone asked the other day if Rocco still takes a stroll through the house every day. Yep, he sure does!

It’s a Petey pot pie! (My favorite!) (One of his nicknames is Petey Pot Pie.)

Good night innernets. (Pete in the crow’s nest, Smitty on the platform)
