Have you ever heard any up-date on what has happened to Nigel and Hazel’s rather fearsome Mamma Beatrice ? Have Forgotten Felines managed to find a place where she can be safe and looked after in a way that works for her ? Do hope she’s happy in her own way.

The original plan was to return her to an outside life, but she ended up going to Michelle’s house, where she’s still located. I think she’ll probably be staying there, at least for now. I saw her when I was at Michelle’s last week and she gave me the usual glare. She’s still not a fan of me!

A cute little lineup. From left: Sashay, Mambo, Flamenco and Tango.

The other three are tussling in the back of the crate, and I guess Sashay was assigned the task of keeping an eye on me.

ChaCha keeps an eye on me too.

Flamenco (and Mambo behind her.)

“Are you going to come out of that crate?” I asked, and Tango said “Not today, thank you.”

A puddle of CUTE (with some attitude on top.)

The boys – Mambo on the left, Tango on the right.

And the girls – Sashay on the left, Flamenco on the right.

Esmeralda is such a little cutie.

She has many favorite spots where she’ll curl up and nap, including this little pile of beds in Fred’s office.

And my GOODNESS isn’t she a gorgeous poser!

I counted back yesterday and realized it had been just over three weeks since we brought Esmeralda inside. (Of course, she’d been around for several days before that, but we were trying to figure out if she belonged to someone in the neighborhood.) She is still the sweet, chill, cuddly girl she started out as, but now she’s finally started to play. Her favorite toys are springs – specifically yellow springs – and ping pong balls. She and Khal have played a little bit – not necessarily WITH each other, but NEAR each other – and she and Alice ignore each other.

Charlie still absolutely hates her, so we’ve been playing a game of musical cats. If he goes out back, we shut the back door and let her roam around the house. When he wants to come in, he lets us know (he sits by the back door and stares until someone comes to let him in) and we put her upstairs and shut the door at the top of the stairs. It’s worked just fine – she really is the MOST chill girl – but we’re both ready to have a break from it.

She was a very thin and bony 7 lbs/3.18 KG when we brought her inside, and she’s now a much healthier 8.5 lbs/3.86 KG. It wouldn’t hurt her to gain a bit more weight, but she looks so much better.

Remember Trixie, who showed up here alongside Rocco and stuck around for a couple of years until early in 2024, when she said “SEE YA, SUCKERS!” and moved in a couple of houses down? We hardly ever see her anymore – I think she sticks pretty close to home – and on the rare occasion we do see her, she looks at us like she’s never met us before. RUDE.

In case you were wondering how she’s doing, I got this picture of her the other day hanging out in her driveway. I don’t know that you can tell from this picture, but I assure you: they are keeping her VERY well fed.

“I don’t know you. Move along, stranger.”

I was bringing this box upstairs to put in the kitten room, and Esmeralda climbed right in and claimed it as her own!

🎉 Former foster Meander is just the CUTEST. (Thanks Sharon!)

Esmeralda has really started to play in the last few days, and we got out the disc launcher (and little launcher that shoots the plastic discs you’ll see in the video) to see if she’d like it. Turns out she’s a fan!

Throw Back Thursday: in 2020, we fostered 15 kittens – the Vittles – at the same time (not all related to each other). It was as nuts as you’d imagine… and they all had ringworm. This litter led directly to Fred’s rule of “No more 15 kittens at one time.”

ChaCha’s motto: Always Be Purring.

Throw Back Thursday, from 2014. This is Winn Dixie (from the Grocers litter) and I am mostly sharing it because the caption cracked me UP:

“Hallo innernets, tonight my brudder was a big ol’ pig and he ate too much and then he drank too much and then he barfed it all up and I went over to check it out and the lady was all “No, don’t eat that, gross!” And I looked at her and said “Lady, I just sat right in front of you and licked my BUTT for like 10 minutes, and you had no issues with that, so RECONFIGURE YOUR DEFINITION OF GROSS” and she just rolled her eyes cause she knew I was RIGHT.”

Sashay’s all “We’re not coming out THERE, are you CRAZY? There’s a lady out there who grabs us up and kisses us all the time. It’s not SAFE.”

Good night innernets. (Esmeralda)

Dear Robyn, thank you so much for the up-date on Beatrice. It’s good to know that she’s adjusting to indoor living at Michelle’s, and may indeed have her forever home there. I’m sure if things had been different you would in time have won her trust and her heart. But when she arrived along with 8 little kittens of diverse backgrounds, some of them quite poorly and in need of intensive care from you, and Beatrice was so scared and fierce, so that she would barely let you into the foster room, you had no choice but to prioritize the care of the babies – with wonderful results in 7 delightful happy, healthy young cats going off to give joy to their forever homes. And of course, dear little Clark was surrounded by so much love by you before his untreatable difficulties saw him cross the Bridge. A stressed, frightened and therefore aggressive feral like Beatrice – and who knows what bad experiences she had been through in the past – would have needed time and space and quiet and one-to-one care of a kind the needs of the Britty Bunch meant you couldn’t give right then. So you did totally the right thing both for Beatrice and the babies. But I do think in different circumstances your love would have won her round! God bless you for all that you do for all the big kitties and little kitties that come into your care – they all hit the jackpot when they come to you!

Trixie and Winn Dixie! I wish Sir Charles would calm down about Esmeralda. Both she and Cha Cha would make somebody a delightful orange package….and then there are those 2 boys….oh the orange cuteness!
