We have now crossed into the Potential Zone of Kittens – I used my amazing math skills (HA) to determine that she’d have her kittens sometime between February 19 – 28. We have not yet had kittens, so let’s cross Saturday and Sunday off the calendar with our Sharpie.
Today would be a little inconvenient FOR ME if she had her kittens, only because I’ll be more focused on packing and shipping auction items, and less focused on keeping an eye on her. So maybe today! Maybe tomorrow! Listen, whenever she wants to have them is fine with me, but I’m getting impatient here.
Over the weekend she checked out the crates. There’s a washable pee pad in the bottom of each crate, topped with a baby blanket. She likes to go into the crate and dig around – literally making a nest – and the first few times she did it I got excited. But then I remembered that this is not unusual behavior for days and days before the birthin’ happens, so I need to pace myself. We ALL need to pace ourselves. Those babies are going to be born at SOME point, right? Right!
No kittens here, only a hungry mama. (She gets 2 cans of cat food in the morning, and 2 cans at night. She likes Whole Hearted brand – usually chicken – and various Tiki Cat flavors. She has kibble available at all times – Royal Canin Babycat – which she nibbles at from time to time. And, of course, a bowl of water which is freshened a couple of times a day. What’s worse than stale water? NOTHIN’.)
“That’s not enough food for a pregnant mama!” someone will complain. She’s gained 2.5 pounds (1.13 kg) in just over three weeks. I think she’s fine.
“That’s too much food for a pregnant mama!” someone will object. We want healthy kittens, and we don’t starve pregnant cats around here. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Mimosa and the belly rub. I don’t think I’ve ever had a mama who loved belly rubs this much! She is one happy girl.
The first picture (upper left) is from when she was our foster, and here she is now!
Jessica says: “I adopted Regina Phalange from you some years ago. She’s still doing so well with her brother, Bear. Her cheeks got a little chonky after post breastfeeding, but she’s at a healthy weight. She gives lots of snuggles and is still the very vocal baby she used to be. I know she misses her kittens and being a mama though because she freaks out anytime she hears a human or animal baby. She also drags her favorite toys around the house and does her mama cries. She is such a good girl. Thank you for taking care of her so we could enjoy and love her ♥️♥️♥️”
Thank you so much, Jessica! ❤️
Mimosa and the pregnant girl waddle. That belly is certainly something!
Watching the belly. There’s quite the wrestling match going on in there!
