So, the decision has been made. Thanks for everyone’s great suggestions – it was a tough decision (Fred finally decided) but we have decided to call this litter (drumroll please):

The Crate Catsbys.

Mika suggested it in the February 28th comments, and then Betaloop mentioned it again in yesterday’s comments, and it’s perfect!

I am (newly) aware that the characters in the Great Gatsby are all terrible people, but yeah – I’m going to stick with the theme anyway. (I did name a litter of kittens after characters from the Sopranos after all and.. yeah. There are some pretty terrible characters in that show, entertaining as they might have been. See also: Badger, Skinny Pete, and Combo from the BeeBees, named after drug dealers. It’s probably best to stick with non-people names (or random people names that aren’t based on characters or real people) for the most part, but coming up with name themes ain’t easy.)

I’m also aware that there are few female names in the novel, but if Daisy decides to have a litter of all girls (YOU KNOW SHE WILL), we can pivot to names of flappers (Clara Bow comes to mind) and go from there. It’s not a hard-and-fast name theme, it’s just a general guidance. (And yes, I have added Zelda to the list.)

What is Uncle Charlie’s reaction to Trixie – I missed that?

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it, but Charlie has no love for Trixie. He’ll tolerate her being inside for a little while, but then he’ll go after her and take a swing. I don’t think he’s ever actually made contact, but he scares her, there’s screaming, and it drives me crazy. At this point, when Trixie is inside she stays in Fred’s office with him so he can keep an eye on things.

Not bagging on Fred, but I thought it was funny/ironic that he wanted the house “not stuffed full of fosters” even though he quasi adopted 2 of the neighbor’s cats.

TELL ME ABOUT IT. (And you have my total permission to bag on Fred. Ha!)

Regarding the “say hello to Daisy” video, I have to ask. Did you buy the pants with the daisies on the specifically for this video, or did you already have them and realize how appropriate they were?

Not only did I not buy the pants with the daisies on them specifically for this video, I didn’t even notice that I was wearing those particular pants until someone pointed it out. AND I didn’t even think about the fact that the flowers on the blankets covering the couch are daisies too. Bless my heart!

As to this Daisy, eeeee polydactyl paws! How many extra toes has this kitty got?

As far as I can tell (she doesn’t love having her paws examined at length), she’s got an extra toe on each foot!

Holdin’ paws with Daisy.

She is such a pretty girl.

“I sees you watchin’ my belly, lady.”

Oh, those paws.

Lilly, pausing mid-bath.

Giving me the skeptical eyes from the little cat tree.

In the foster room, checking out her look in the mirror.

Stretching up to take a look at the sink.

Lincoln, atop the scratcher while Lilly watches from floor level.

Lilly greets Daisy.

As does Lincoln.

So Lincoln and Lilly had a long visit in the foster room yesterday morning and again in the afternoon. Things went well with Lilly, but I think we’ve thrown too much at Lincoln too quickly. He’s regressed, and we need to slow way, way down. While Lilly will spend more time with Daisy – and likely move in with her this weekend – we are leaving Lincoln in my office, and going to move very slowly from here on out. I don’t know how long it’ll take before he can be reunited with his sister; it’ll take as long as it takes and once he’s well socialized and ready to move on to the next step, I will let y’all know.

It’s been rainy and dreary and gray, and all Alice Mo wants to do is curl up in her cube and sleep the day away.

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.

Lilly does some exploring while Daisy keeps an eye on her.

A shot of the belly. As you can see, she’s bigger on her left side than on her right. Someone told me with a previous mama that when they’re bigger on one side than the other, it means she’s got an uneven number of kittens, so I’m going to go right ahead and predict 5.

Throw Back Thursday: from 2012, when we were fostering hugely pregnant Emmy, I got this excellent video of her alien belly. It’s mesmerizing! (She had kittens the day after I made this video, 4 of them: Logie, Darwin, Razzie and Newbery.)

It’s #Thlurrrpsday, and Lincoln shows off his form.

In summary: no belly movement yet except for some very subtle flutters that could as easily be gas or muscle spasms as kittens moving – no obvious kicks, and Daisy is one chill muffin.

Good night innernets. (Lilly, and yes that is an Awkward Yeti mini Heart plushie keeping her company.)
