First things first…

Pita is adoption pending! She will be going to a home with two other kitties – AND her people are going out of town at the end of May, so she’ll be here with us ’til they’re back at the beginning of June. Some extra time to hang out with that crazy, sweet girl? Yes, please! (Pita went from no interest to several inquiries/applications all at once, which hopefully will happen for her mama soon.)

This means that all of the kittens are now adoption pending. They’re going for their spay/neuters next Tuesday and then will start heading home a few days after that.

Ciabatta on the ham-mick with a rat, feeling very pleased with himself.

Crouton’s wondering what I’m doing.

Babka (center) is all “Lady, look. You watching? Watch this…”

::thlurrrrp::

It’s a Pumpernickel pie, with a side of Babka (my favorite!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meander’s all “Lady. You gonna tell ’em, or what?”
FINE, I’ll tell them.
Y’all remember when I told you that all the Hopalong kittens are boys? And I told you (I think I told you; it’s possible I just thought it quietly to myself) that a couple of them were “iffy.” As in, they looked mostly like boys, but we weren’t 100% on that? Well, as it turns out…
Lollygag (red collar) is a girl. (She’s one of the two we were iffy on.)
Dillydally (orange tabby) is a girl. (She’s the other one we were iffy on.)
And SURPRISE! Bolt (blue collar) is a girl. This one took us by surprise.
So suddenly we’ve gone from an all-boy litter to a 50/50 litter. How are you ever going to remember who’s a girl, you ask? Well, as it turns out all the girls have at least one “L” in their name. (I did not plan that, but I think it’s funny it worked out that way.) Also, I’ll try to remember to put a note at the end of each social media post about them from now to the end of forever, not that everyone will see it (thanks, Facebook and your terrible algorithm) but it’s a start.
Skip (green collar) is still a boy. (He’s all “I am? Cool. I guess.”)
Mosey (no collar) is still a boy. (Mosey: “Yep.”)
(Skitter (purple collar) is also a boy, but I have no up-close picture of him at the moment.)
Skip at the milk bar, Dillydally coming at the milk bar from behind, and Bolt giving her mama a little smooch.
As you can see, finding out that they’re not all boys has them SO stressed out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Newt has a snooze. He snoozes a lot these days, but still goes outside for the occasional stroll around the back yard. I just never manage to get any pictures of that.

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) this weekend.

Crouton’s keeping an eye on me. ‘Cause someone’s gotta!

At the end of April in 2011, an F4 tornado came through our area – Fred stood on the front porch and watched it go by while I stood in the closet that was in the center of our house, crates of cats at my feet, and yelled for him to get inside. We were lucky in that our house and lives were intact – a lot of people weren’t so fortunate – and spent the next few days without internet (the horror!), cutting up trees, dragging branches, and fixing fences. (You can read the post about that here.)

Our next door neighbor found a kitten sitting under a car, howling her head off, captured her, and brought her to us.

That was Dorothy. No idea where she’d come from or who she belonged to, but we took her in, fostered her, and a few months later Andrea drove down from St. Louis to adopt her.

13 years later, this is what she looks like – just as gorgeous as can be!

(Thanks, Andrea!)

Permanent residents Khal (the magnificent(ly goofy) floofy black boy, who we call “Floomp”) and Newt (he’s 18!) are hanging out on the bed having some brotherly bonding time. I especially like how Khal is using Newt’s face as a foot rest.

Dillydally would like you to know that Lollygag makes an excellent pillow.

Pita and Ciabatta are chatterbugs, and Crouton is a goofball with many and varied skills.

It’s kinda hard to see what’s going on here, but this is Bolt washing his paw while flopped across the top of Skitter. Whatever floats your boat, Bolt.

Good night innernets. (Ciabatta)

Bolt checks out Mosey’s yawning technique.

“Pumpernickel,” I said. “You are so CUTE!”
“I KNOW!” he said.

YouTube link
I was very surprised yesterday morning to walk into the room to find that Meander had moved her kittens from the crate to the other side of the room. (You can probably tell by my voice that I’d been awake for all of about 2 minutes! First thing I do in the morning after I roll out of bed is go in and check on them.) Meander’s keeping things interesting!

“So you’re the lady my mother’s been warning me about.” (Skitter)

YouTube link
The instant I set this tent up properly so that it’s standing up like a tent should be, the Crumbs leap on it, make it collapse, push it around the room, and jump in and out of it. The most fun EVER.

Good night innernets. (Crouton)

Good morning, sunshine. (Ciabatta)

Dear lord, could Bolt be any cuter? I think NOT.

YouTube link
The Hopalongs are finding their voices. Now when I go into the room, Skitter (if he’s awake) squeaks at me. Dillydally’s also a talker!

Ciabatta and Babka are excellent napping companions. (As are Pumpernickel, Crouton and Pita, who are not represented in this picture but were all gathered around my head purring so loudly that I’m sure they could be heard 3 states away.)

Good night innernets. (Meander’s giving me the eyes of Don’t You Wake These Babies.)

    Crumpet will be relieved to hear that none of the kittens will be coming to Petsmart.

    This is such a positive post. So happy that Pita will finally be adopted and will grow up with two other kitties. Hope that her Mama will also be adopted soon.
    The colors are really defining the kittens’ coat now – that’s interesting!
    Love reading your posts and look forward to many more!!

    That’s great about Pita. Also that Dilly Dally is a rare Ginger girl! I know how rare they are. I have one. Those babies are adorable.

    Dorothy was such a cute kitten and she’s a gorgeous grown up. So glad to get to see her.

    Has crumpet had any inquiries? She’s just beautiful and so sweet. What happens in her people don’t come?

      She’ll eventually get a break from Petsmart for a while and then go back.

    A Dorfy update!

    Also a multiple mis-sexing incident. No worries, it’s not as if it matters at their age, and you caught it long before it does. They’re still cute, and a ginger girl! This is a super interesting litter.

    I guess subconsciously you did know which ones were girllllllllllls 🙂

    This post is epically full of win. Yay for more adopted Crumbs! Hurrah for accurate genders on the Hopalong babies (and another L&H mis-sexing incident for all of us long-time readers to chortle over–my personal favorite will always be “Skinny Pete” from the BeeBees turning out to be a girl, LOL). And an especially big WOOT for the Dorfy update! I remember her well, and have wondered from time to time how she and her humans were doing, so I’m delighted to see that the the answer is apparently “wonderfully.” She’s every bit as beautiful and adorable these days as when she was just a wee bebeh, though how on EARTH has it been 11 years since she blew in with the tornado? That seems altogether impossible…

    Also, Mosey’s points are really starting to come in now, aren’t they? His little ears and paws look so much darker, he’s going to be one handsome dude when he’s full-grown, methinks.

    Sorry if you’ve been asked this a million times in your years fostering- but how rare are ginger girls in your experience? I thought it was unusual?

      I heard and read it was 2 out of every 10. The dad is a ginger or a calico. I have a ginger girl.

    Yaaaaay adoption pending Pita! Now Crumpet’s people just need to come along and fall in love with her purry self.

    Hi Dorothy! She’s going to be one of my favorite L&H kitties forever, between her origin story and the whole sweet little torbie, hanging out with Rufus and chilling, purring and chirping in videos thing. <3

    Three girls in this newest litter after all – oooops! And surprise! And oh wow, an uncommon female orange tabby, too cool! You don't see that every day. I love the meezers in this bunch, because colorpoint kitties are amazing, but I also admit to a soft spot for Dillydally the outlier. It's like meezer cuteness, meezer cuteness, meezer cuteness–oh hi there, orange tiger! One of these things is not like the others… XD

    I wonder, could either of the colorpoint kitten girls end up a tortie point, do you think? I find myself vaguely hoping for one of those.

    1. Carrie Seymour says:
      May 7, 2024 at 12:48 pm

      If all the colourpoint kittens have the same father, it’s *extremely* unlikely that there could be both a female kitten that’s a variant of orange, and a female kitten that’s a variant of black/brown. So unless there’s more than 1 colourpoint father, either Bolt or Lollygag should turn out to be tortie point. (Probably Bolt, because we can see that Dillydally is entirely orange, so unless she has a different father, the father must’ve been orange/flame point.)

      Although the colourpoint pattern masks so much of their base colour that a “cryptic tortie” is more likely than if they weren’t mostly white.
