3-19-10 – Maura and the new guys, named.

Thanks, you guys, for your kind words yesterday. I do know that the mama cat wasn’t alone at the end, and even if I’d been there, it wouldn’t have meant anything to her, but I still felt bad. I still do, a little, but I told her boys about her yesterday (they seemed unimpressed, but it made me feel better!) and what a fighter she was, and what an awesome mother for taking such good care of them. I’d like to say that they looked wisely at me as though they understood, but their reaction was more along the lines of “O HELLO, IS THIS FINGER EDIBLE?”

Okay, they’re named. Please keep in mind that Fred was the namer this time around, so I wasn’t ignoring your name suggestions; he was. Heh.

Meet the Bookworms.

That’s Rhyme (as in Jeffery Deaver’s Lincoln Rhyme) in the front, and Corbett (Robert McCammon’s Matthew Corbett series) in the back.

Reacher (Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series).

And Bolitar (Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar series).

Corbett bites Rhyme’s behind. Rhyme does not appreciate this.

Rhyme and Corbett, lookin’ guilty.

The Bookworms are doing well. They’re definitely older than the Wonkas were when we got them – they’re already lapping formula out of bowls, and though they’re showing no interest in eating canned kitten food, they’ve all been spotted belly up to the bowl of dry kibble. For now, what I do three times a day is put a couple of bowls of formula in the room, leave while they lap it up, then go back into the room after about ten minutes to offer them the bottle. They’re still taking the bottle, but they’re not desperate for it or anything – they’re like, “Oh, there’s a bottle? Well, okay. I suppose I’ll chew on it for a few minutes.”

They’re all using the litter boxes, and except for the first day, I’ve spotted no accidents. Of course, NO ONE ever goes to the litter box alone, even if they want to. Yesterday, Reacher was in the litter box, and one of other kittens was sitting outside the litter box swatting at him.

Thus far, I’ve only had to give one bath (Bolitar was kind enough to tromp through someone else’s poop), so that’s pretty good, right? I feel like I was bathing the Cookies every single day. Of course, the Cookies were a few weeks younger when we got them, too.

I’m declaring these guys to be about five weeks old, which gives them the birth date of February 8th. If you were wondering. πŸ™‚

“Okay, lady, I’ve been thinking. If I were to actually give birth to these babies I’m carrying around, then I’d have to start with the cleaning and feeding and all that. I really like my current life of leisure. If I want to sleep for six hours, bat a toy ball around, and then sleep for another six, there’s no one to stop me. No one screaming to be fed, no one needing a poopy butt cleaned.”

“So I’m just going to NOT give birth, okay? That a problem for you?”

Nice job with the naming, Fred! (My current cat is named after a fictional detective, and I intend to continue this tradition with future cats. I’ve aways wanted a grey tabby called Dalgleish!) Isn’t little Reacher the cutest little button?
Maura just cracks me up – so much attitude!

So much stripey cuteness with the wee Bookworms! Adorable! I will be looking forward to many more photos of these sweeties.

Ok, I admit I squee’d loudly (at work, no less) when I read “Reacher” and “Bolitar.” Some of my current favorites, and I’m actually reading a Bolitar book right now.

I heartily approve. (Although poor little Bolitar Bookworm is probably going to get teased by the other kittens for the alliteration in his name, he’ll just wisecrack his way through it like his namesake, lol! Watch out for Reacher, though – he’ll do some fuzzy booty-kicking.)

I have fallen in love with Bolitar!! That face! I actually had to look again to see where you are located. If it was close, I was going to have to claim Bolitar! Alas, I am in Oregon – too far away from you! πŸ™ I’ll have to admire from afar!

I’m going to tell my sister about your designated birthdate for them as it was her birthday that day! She will be pleased!

Maura is adorable, such a sweet face!

And I loooove the cuddles between Newt and Elwood. Wish my cats still did that!

Last but not least, GIVE ME JAKE AND ELWOOD NOW!!!!! I looooooove them! THeir faces are too funny, and grey is my favouritest colour on a kitty!!!

That poor little momma cat sure had some beautiful babies. I can’t wait to watch them grow and go off to their forever homes. She will be so proud.

I think all the bookworms are adorable but Reacher is my favorite. We’ve never had a grey cat-maybe next time? NJ would be too far to try to adopt him too!

Oh my word my word!! So this is what happens when I don’t check in regularly! Last I knew, Maura had just moved in.

What is it about you and Fred that draws kittens like a magnet? Never mind, I know what it is. Huge hearts, kind hearts, loving hearts.

Congratulations to the new boys and blessings on their dear mama. You did the right thing, Robyn. I’m just so glad it wasn’t me having to do the right thing..

    I love your new boys!

I love the new guys! I don’t have a favorite yet, but I’m sure that will come in no time. It always does. πŸ™‚

So sorry to hear about mama cat. Must have been hard since she’s given you such precious babies now and in the past. You did good, though. I’m sure she was happy to know someone cared for her enough to try and help.

Oh my goodness. The Bookworms are some of THE cutest kittens I’ve ever seen! What stunners!

Maura reminds me of one of my favourite ever fosters, Stella. She was a very young mum too. She looked totally different, but there is something so similar in their eyes:)

Ahhh… pictures (the last time I popped over they wouldn’t show… stupid technology!). They are just cuter than cute, Robyn! What a houseful you’ll have when Maura delivers.
