Since I did a post last week with pictures of Arya as she grew up with us, it’s only fair that I do the same with her brothers. I made a collage using PicMonkey for each of them. Unfortunately it wasn’t until I was on the last one that I realized I should have done it in a larger size and uploaded that to Flickr, but… I didn’t. Sorry about that! I’ll do better next time, I promise.

Is it just me, or is that one especially good looking litter?

Okay, I’ve got two more pictures involving Jon Snow (what? He WAS here an entire day longer than Hodor and Brandon!)

Such snugglebugs, those two.

Such a pretty boy!

Norbie would like it known that he is HORRIFIED that y’all were SO right about the dust showing up on the new black refrigerator. Horrifying! Someone needs to wipe down this refrigerator immediately!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Here’s a peek of the new guys and gals!

In case you can’t tell from that last picture, there are SEVEN kittens there! The Mom actually gave birth to nine (I SAID NINE) kittens, but two of them didn’t make it. These guys seem vigorous and healthy, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we have no issues. They were born on September 5th, so they’re just at two weeks old.

I think we have 4 girls and 3 boys, but as Fred was checking them for me yesterday he lost track of what he was doing (we were being pretty disorganized about it), so he’s going to take another look later today, and we’ll get a picture of each of their faces. We’ve got the orange and white tabby, a tuxie, a girl that is kind of torti-ish (y’all will be able to help me with figuring out exactly what she is, I’m sure), and four brown tabbies and white. I cannot, for the life of me, tell the brown tabbies apart at this point, but I’ll get it figured out eventually.

Mama is very very sweet and friendly, and has NO problems at all with us handling her babies.

We have a name theme (and names) in mind, but I’m going to wait a few days to assign names to them just to be sure they’re the ones I want to use. Feel free to make suggestions, though – I love seeing what you guys suggest!

Is it time? I think it is! Yo!

    Seven dwarves?

    1. Connie says:
      September 18, 2013 at 12:03 pm

LOL.. I was wondering when someone was going to suggest that. I had seven (one didn’t make it) and everyone wanted me to name them after the dwarfs.. I challenged anyone to name all seven and I’d consider it (but then who do you name grumpy?? I mean really?? )and no one did..

      1. elayne says:
        September 18, 2013 at 3:51 pm

I could always remember all of them except Happy, because Happy seems like such a stupid name to pick.

Nowadays I remember Happy, because I have a mnemonic, which is DDSSGBH; it involves profanity. Being able to remember a few of the names is enough to trigger the mnemonic, which stands for “D*mn Disney’s Stupid Sh*t, Gives [a] B*tch [a] Headache!”

It also helps me to remember that three dwarfs are named for personality traits (Happy, Grumpy, Bashful), three for physical/health characteristics (Sleepy, Dopey, Sneezy), and one for his job (Doc). So whenever I’m trying to remember the names, I can sort of run down the list of who I’ve got, and see who’s missing, by initial and by category, and that usually sorts it.

My dad’s cat is named Doc. He wrote down all the names of the dwarfs he could remember (five), then tried them all out on the cat one by one for about a week. It’s an improvement – he usually names them according to color. Black animals are Blackie or Midnight, white animals are Snowball, brown animals are Brownie or (he was really proud of this one) Sandy, and anything with complicated coloration is Lady for female or King for male. It’s a wonder I’m not named Pinkie!

      2. Kelly says:
        September 18, 2013 at 4:41 pm

Happy, Sleepy, Sneezy, Dopey, Grumpy, Bashful, and Doc… BOOM. Guess I missed the challenge. But you’re right, picking one to name Grumpy would be a bit mean.

Yes, the Stark babies – including Norbie – are / were one fine looking litter!!! OMGosh, OMGosh, OMGosh… SEVEN!!!! SEVEN little puddles of kittehs that INCLUDE my two most favorite types… a tuxedo AND a ginger (orange) tabbie! Squeeeeeeee!!!! I am in HEAVEN and soooo looking forward to seeing them grow!!! The momma sure is pretty, too! YAY (backflip… uh, only in my mind… too old for that!) How ’bout old school reference in naming? Bewitched, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, Charlie’s Angels, Dallas (somehow kittens named Sue Ellen Ewing, Miss Ellie, and Pamela Barnes is kinda cute?) Just throwin out some favorites of my childhood (and our one TV household… hehehe). Whatever the naming convention, I am SO looking forward to the next days and weeks!!! Please include Norbie in any posts, love that little guy!

  11. SC Amy says:
    September 18, 2013 at 8:23 am

Awwwwww babies!!!! Where were they born and when did they arrive? Do we know Mama’s back story? Questions, questions, questions…. πŸ™‚

And I’m so glad there is another wee tuxie in the mix. That will help me when sweet Norbie leaves for his new home. Plus, we need an orange kittie and a (semi) black kittie on hand as we approach Halloween!! Oh, oh – can we do Halloween themed names?? I’ll second a Bewitched theme!

  12. Sherry B. says:
    September 18, 2013 at 8:24 am

Seven little babies! Poor mama!!! She’s going to be worn thin. At least she’s got you and Fred to help now. I hate that she lost two, but really that was a huge litter it seems like. Baybees baybees baybees!!! Yay!!

I’m going to miss the Starks, but oh how glad I am that they were all adopted so quickly and into some fabulous lives!

Plenty of names available from the Downtown Abbey universe…Violet could be the mother (the dowager countess), and babies could be Robert, Cora (Lord Grantham, Lady Grantham), Mary, Edith, Sybil (the daughters); Mr. Bates, Mr. Carson, O’Brien, Mrs. Hughes, Daisy, Anna, Mrs. Patmore, Ethel, Thomas, Branson, Moseley (various members of the household staff); Isobel, Matthew (the Crawleys), Lavinia, etc., etc.

    1. CW says:

I was also going to suggest Downton!

    2. Liza says:

I think a Downton Abbey named litter is an awesome idea!

    3. Kelly says:
      September 18, 2013 at 4:42 pm

I would love a Downton litter, but I think the timing’s not quite right. When it’s airing on PBS in January would be a perfect time!

That Norbie selfie in the fridge is killing me. You’re honestly telling me that you can let him go?

I dunno, if this adopting keeps pending the way it is, I wouldn’t be surprised if you change your mind.

  16. sourpuss says:
    September 18, 2013 at 9:01 am

Well, that was quite the surprise. I was oooh-ing and ahhh-ing over the baby picture collages and then BAM! you hit me with a pretty pretty mama kitty and her wee bebbehs! How sneaky of you, Robyn! That certainly does look like an interesting litter. I don’t think any litter can compare to our Dragons/Starks but this batch may give them a run for their money! Can’t wait to find out their names!

As a sidenote, I would just like to reiterate AGAIN how much I love hanging out with you & Fred and all your fosters & this great community you’ve got going here. It really does brighten my day and lift my spirits to be a wee part of this. Sometimes the greatest joys in life are the little things (usually kittens!).

    1. Louise says:
      September 18, 2013 at 2:14 pm

Sourpuss you took the words right out of my mouth !!!!

This is a wonderful community to be part of. I’m sure if any of us met in real life we would feel just like old friends who have been apart for a while !

Thank you Robyn and Fred for all that you do !!!!

  19. Sherry B. says:

I also have to say that Mr. Jon Snow has the most expressive face. it seems like most of his collage is him looking at you with disdain or offense!

  20. Paula says:

Bewitched!! A kitten named Mrs. Kravitz might kill me dead.

  21. jeweledskye says:
    September 18, 2013 at 9:50 am

Okay… one more thought… keeping with Halloween theme… Sleepy Hollow? Ichabod, Katrina, Baltus, Masbeth, Killian, Lady Crane, etc… sourcing IMDB for the 1999 movie w/Johnny Depp (swoon!) Sorry, nothing else going on today at work that inspires creativity… and absolutely NOTHING going on to compare to a NEW litter of SEVEN kittens and their mama!!! Maybe legendary creatures? Wikipedia list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures
Oh, and I can so see you exclaiming “Larry Tate, you leave Mrs. Kravitz’s (Endora’s, Esmarelda’s) tail alone!”

    That’s all… (for now!) LOL

I have previously voted for a gangster themed litter, since I like the idea of weird tough guy names on little bitty kittens- Joey Mumbles, Big Fish Tony, The Fang, Junior Lollipops, Meatball, Cadillac Frank, Pretty Boy, Bugsy, etc.

Since it’s fall, I’ll put in an additional vote for a folklore theme- hobgoblin, pixie, elf, brownie, puck, imp, bogey, gremlin, and such.

    1. elayne says:
      September 18, 2013 at 3:53 pm

  24. Ali says:
    September 18, 2013 at 10:18 am

Wow! BIG litter! Do you think she’ll be able to feed them all enough, or will you be supplementing w/ the occasional bottle?

(And I second [third?] the idea for a Star Trek themed litter; at least some point in the future πŸ˜‰ )

  25. Kar says:
    September 18, 2013 at 11:00 am

BTW, Brandon’s baby pictures are just killing me. And Hodor my little Heat Miser! And Jon, very clearly a prince even as a baby!

I’m a chem grad student, so this popped into my head…elements! With nicknames too. Some of my favorite possibilities, among many others:

    Magnesium (Maggie)
    Beryllium (Beryl)
    Nickel (Nikki)
    Osmium (Ozzie)
    Barium (Barry)
    Neodynium (Neo)
    Molybdenum (Molly)
    Titanium (Titan)
    Calcium (Cal)
    Selenium (Seely)
    Thorium (Thor)
    Samarium (Sam)
    Ruthenium (Ruthy)

    Yes, I know that I’m a nerd…

  27. Joy says:
    September 18, 2013 at 11:16 am

Awww. The new guys look adorable already and we haven’t even seen their faces yet! πŸ™‚ What about a Sound of Music naming theme? The Von Trapps! The mom could be Maria and since there are seven babies each one could be one of the children. If you ended up needing another boy name (I think their are only two boy children…) you could use Captain Von Trapp or another boy name from the movie.

    1. Holly Waterfall says:
      September 18, 2013 at 2:23 pm

Joy-that would be a really cute naming theme. The best “other” tow boys names in the movie would be Uncle Max or Rolf.

    2. Kelly says:
      September 18, 2013 at 4:44 pm

YES YES YES!!!!! It’s not as if you couldn’t change Louisa to Louis or Marta to Martin. I love this… please, pretty please?

  29. Connie says:

    Ta-da! πŸ™‚

  31. Delaney says:
    September 18, 2013 at 12:37 pm

Those were great photo sets of the Stark boys! All of your fosters have been adorable, but Brandon and Hodor were the first I actively wished I could have. I’m so glad they were adopted together. πŸ™‚

Even though you said you have a theme in mind for names, one occurred to me anyway and I’ll share for the fun of it. After considering the recent litters, I thought it might be nice to switch back to food variety names instead of pop culture. And since it’s going into fall, apples seemed perfect. (I tried to look to see if this has already been done, but didn’t see anything.) There are so many great names. Gala, Jonagold, Newton Pippin, Jazz, Lady Alice, Cameo, Braeburn, Ariane, Cortland, Jubilee, Sundance, Crispin, Winesap, Baldwin, etc.

More importantly, though… kittens! The new mama kitty has such striking eyes as well. There’s nothing like new fosters to distract one from missing the Starks and Dragons (allowing one to fully celebrate them finding forever homes!)

I eagerly await their introductions. πŸ˜€

I don’t have any brilliant naming ideas, but I would like to inform you that Sept. 5 is a great date for birthday. My first-born daughter, Basia, was born on that day 17 years ago and she is just GREAT πŸ™‚

    1. elayne says:
      September 18, 2013 at 3:56 pm

Basia is a lovely name – as is Joasia! How do you pronounce them? If I recall correctly you’re in Poland or thereabouts? Are those names common in your part of the world? What are other common names there that might be exotic-sounding to American ears? (I mean, I know you can’t mind-read but judging by the names in comments here and on US-based blogs and stuff…)

Happy belated birthday to your lovely first-born, and many happy returns!

I have to say that I think the Starks have been the MOST expressive litter since I joined this community back when the Maters and Taters were with you last year.
I’m smiling at the thought of seven new little babies running around. Thank you to the Mama for such variety. Something for everyone. I think with the fall season coming upon us you could use fall items as a theme:
Autumn (g); Pumpkin (the orange one); Jack (O Lantern); Ichabod (Crane); Trixie (for Trick and Treat); Candy (g); Hal or Hallie (for Halloween)

  38. Webbthistle says:

Love and hugs to the Starks as they settle in / prepare to settle in with their forever families. A gorgeous litter indeed!

And now – another beautiful mama with a variety pack! Special thoughts for the two kittens who didn’t make it. Such a large litter for this precious mom…

Can’t wait to see this troupe in action! And I love the idea of a Halloween naming theme. Or a Star Trek one – only if it includes the original season. Yeah – I am that old.

Or name them after Futurama characters since that show just ended.

  42. Renee Gunn says:

That is one gorgeous mama kitty – and well I just have to say – Jon Snow made the best faces.

  43. Kate B. says:

Thanks for the awesome Stark Boys retros, Robyn! Yup, those were some gorgeous kittens!

And, OMG, 7 babies?! Wow – but poor Mama! (And so sorry about the 2 that didn’t make it.)

OK, naming – a “Battlestar Galactica” theme:

    Mom = Laura or Roslin
Girls = Athena, Starbuck, Cally, Dualla or Anastasia
Boys = Adama, Lee, Apollo, Gaius, Helo, Tyrol, Anders or Leoben

    Or a “Fringe” theme:

Olivia, Etta, Astrid, Nina, Walter, Donald, August, etc!
