In case you missed it, Spock and Janeway’s adoption fell through. I have no idea why the adopter changed her mind, and in fact she didn’t bother to let me know that she had, just didn’t respond to multiple inquiries about when she’d be here to get them, and then (obviously) never showed up.

She is not, as you might be worried, dead in a ditch somewhere. A glance at her social media shows that she is perfectly fine and looking forward to Christmas. To be clear: that she changed her mind is fine – it’s happened before, it’ll happen again, and I wouldn’t have taken it personally. But I am SUPER ANNOYED that after taking the kittens off the market for several weeks, she couldn’t be bothered to let me know that she wouldn’t be coming to get them.

But OH WELL. Since I posted on social media that they are available again, there have been some inquiries. Hopefully at least one will work out, and these guys can go home soon. We’ll see! ‘Til then, they don’t seem to terribly stressed.

Working on plans to GET that ceiling fan.

Such pretty eyes, that boy.

Such a pretty girl.

As they have been for the past few weeks, they’re roaming the house during the day and at night they go into the foster room so that the permanent residents get a break.

And in my office resides…

Tortie mama M’Lynn and her housepanther daughter Shelby. (Names are from Steel Magnolias.)

I got these two last Wednesday. M’Lynn was rescued from a flea market, pregnant, and then gave birth to 6 kittens. The lady who had them didn’t realize that M’Lynn’s milk had dried up, and 5 of the 6 kittens died before she knew what was going on. Shelby – who was exactly 3 weeks when I got them – weighed what a 1 week old kitten should weigh. M’Lynn is at least two pounds underweight and her milk is completely dried up. I am bottle feeding Shelby every 3 hours, and M’Lynn is getting several meals of canned food a day. Shelby is gaining well – M’Lynn is holding her weight, but is having some pretty bad litterbox issues; once we have that under control, she’ll start gaining. (I have informed them that we don’t tolerate underweight cats and kittens here at Love & Hisses, so they better get with the program.)

M’Lynn is the SWEETEST girl – y’all know I’ve had a LOT of sweet mamas, but she might be the sweetest one ever. She wants to be petted, loves being kissed, and really likes the fact that I’m feeding her kitten. More than once while I’ve been feeding Shelby, M’Lynn climbs into my lap, curls up, and purrs.

To be honest, I didn’t think Shelby had much of a chance because she was so underweight, but she’s doing great. I’d love it if she’d latch onto the bottle so that I don’t have to syringe feed her, but she’s doing things her own way and I still hope she’ll figure out the bottle. She’s a feisty one!

Shelby’s not sure she cares for that stuffed rabbit taking up space in HER crate.

She’s a handful!

Thlurrrp.

M’Lynn says every day is Thlurrrpsday.

Newt just loves that big soft comfy bed.

Janeway and Spock get their purr on.

Sweet little posers. (Spock left, Janeway right.)

Good night innernets. (Janeway and Spock, who look more like they’re going to tussle than go to sleep.)

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: Janeway & Spock. Email info (at) ffhsv.org to inquire.

Good morning internet! After taking them off the market for several weeks, the person who was “so excited” about adopting Janeway and Spock has apparently changed her mind.

This means that they are available for adoption again! If these two sweethearts seem like the perfect addition to your home, please email Forgotten Felines of Huntsville at info (at) ffhsv.org to inquire.

They do need to be adopted as a pair – they didn’t start out as a bonded pair, but they certainly are now (they are always playing, curled up together, and if one can’t find the other one, they call out for them.) They get along well with other cats (are respectful of the grumpy older cats in their foster home), are super sweet, very playful, so much fun to watch, and love to curl up for naps with the nearest human.

We are located in Huntsville, Alabama – out of area adoptions are permitted, but the adopter must come here to complete the adoption. Please email Forgotten Felines of Huntsville at info (at) ffhsv.org to inquire!

They are just over 3 months old, spayed & neutered, and up to date on all their vaccinations.

“Tryin’ to nap here, lady.”

Meet our new fosters, tortie/calico mama M’Lynn (about 2 years old) and her housepanther daughter Shelby (DOB October 4, 2023.)

M’Lynn was rescued, pregnant, from a flea market. She gave birth to 6 kittens – unfortunately, her milk dried up, and the lady who had her didn’t realize in time. 5 of the kittens died, leaving just Shelby, who is a sassy little fighter. When I got them Wednesday (October 25th) Shelby was 3 weeks old, and the size of a 1 week old. She’s since put on some weight, but she is still too thin.

M’Lynn is badly underweight too (no wonder her milk dried up), and is appreciating her multiple daily meals.

Basically I’m bottle/syringe feeding Shelby, and (as you’ll see) M’Lynn is taking care of everything else.

For now they are in my office, which is a very small room but big enough for them for now, and when Janeway and Spock (who are in the foster room at night) have been adopted, I’ll move M’Lynn and Shelby into the foster room.

Also, I have used the name M’Lynn before, but that was in 2010 and I was fostering for a different rescue, so I think it’s safe to re-use.

Janeway’s smilin’ face kills me dead.

Shelby’s trying to be supportive, but she’s not sure she cares for what you’re wearing.

Good night innernets. (M’Lynn likes this level of the cat tree because she can chill out and still keep an eye on the crate where Shelby is sleeping.)
