10-20-09 – True Blood 6, the Wonkas…. and the new guys.

The Wonkas are now bottle-free and have been formula-free since I moved them to the kitten room on Saturday.

“I sure am glad they’re off the bottle,” I said to Fred. “I don’t know that I really want to have bottle babies again. They make me worry too much.”

Cue the distant laughter of GOD.

Yesterday afternoon, the driveway alarm went off. Fred looked out the window and told me that it was our neighbor from two doors down and her oldest daughter. She rang the doorbell, and Fred went off to see what was what.

A minute later, he came back in the front door and called me.

“What?” I said, walking toward the front door.

“I need you out here,” he said.

“Why?” I said.

“Just! Come! Here!” he hissed.

So I did. And standing on the front porch was our neighbor and her oldest daughter.

Her daughter was holding a box. Of kittens. Tiny kittens.

I considered bellowing “OH HELL NO!” and going back inside the house, but I am far too polite for that.

It turns out that a mother cat had just been hit by a car and killed, leaving behind five – YES I SAID FIVE – babies. They were alert and had their eyes open, but were obviously still small enough to need to be bottle fed. Our neighbor couldn’t keep them because she has a job and can’t feed them every few hours, and she knows we’re crazy cat people so she threw herself on our mercy.

“Well,” I said. “The guest bedroom is free!”

We brought them inside, and I made bottles while Fred weighed them. The smallest weighed 9 ounces and the largest 11, which I decided means that they’re about three weeks old.

I stimulated them to pee (and they all peed well, which meant, I suppose, that they’d eaten well the last time they ate), and then we fed them. They weren’t terribly interested in eating, but we got some formula into all of them before we put them in the cage with a heating pad and stuffed animal.

They are adorable.

So, four kittens gone to the adoption center, and five added to the household. Apparently it’s very important to God that we have bottle babies in the house. SIGH.

(We haven’t even thought of names for them yet – but I’m sure we will in the next few days!)

There are four tabby-points (I think that’s what they are) (three girls, one boy) and one black and white (a boy).

The Wonkas are doing just fine. They like their new home, and they like that sun shines through the windows of their home, and they especially like that I come and visit with them lots (which they also liked in their OLD home, the guest bedroom downstairs).

::CHOMP::

“I KNEW there was something fishy about that “Balloon Boy” kid and his family.”

“Hey! GUYS! She’s handing out pettins. You better hurry, you don’t wanna miss out!”

Gus is totally the Cosmo Kramer of the kitten world.

And of course Sookie and Terry have made themselves RIGHT at home.

Terry gives Elwood a bath. Hey, SOMEONE’s gotta.

Sookie, playing in the guest bedroom.

Speaking of the True Bloods, the Saturday morning volunteer, who cleans cages at the adoption center at PetSmart told me this funny story about Hoyt and Bill:

I was cleaning their cage, and Sander (Mr. Alpha Male) was also out. Sander always attacks all the other kittens, (just playing I am sure to him). Well Hoyt and Bill were having none of that – they both ran after Sander and he went to hide in the litterbox that I had taken out of their cage while I was cleaning it. One sat on top, one sat in front of the box and Sander was so glad when I put him back in his cage!

I guess my boys are doing just fine.

The dryer is the happenin’ place to be, these days. I don’t know if it’s because it’s near a window overlooking the back yard or because it’s near the back door (it’s not because it’s warm, because when I actually start the dryer, whoever’s laying there usually leaves).

You realize the big “Sucka!” and the arrow painted on the side of your house is part of the problem right?

Seriously, I don’t blame you for taking in these little guys. Especially knowing what happened to mama.

Why do you get all the baby kittens! I always hope I’ll just stumble upon some baby kittens outside somewhere, because hey, it seems to happen to everyone else! I’d love to find some wee babehs! Where are they all?

The picture of the light grey one in Fred’s hand? Looking up? With milk on his nose? *melt*

SO…. It turns out my God is better than yours. My prayers get answered in full, and yours get completely ignored. Funny eh? πŸ™‚

Enjoy the new family members… I know for sure we’ll all LOVE reading about them!

You’re absolutely wonderful people. On behalf of every cat in the whole world!

    xx

The new kids are adorable! Love that milk face and those little brown noses. I hope the black & white baby doesn’t get a complex being the odd one. Yay for Bill & Hoyt standing up to that stinker Sander, bless his heart. He just needs a big house to run around in.

Well, you’re wise people not to question the will of God! πŸ™‚ He’s obviously earmarked you as wonderful caretakers of the littlest ones. I know you’ll be blessed for the great work you do.

I’m with Freya — MY prayers that there be an never-ending stream of kittens into your house were answered. πŸ˜‰

Oh my gosh, the Wonkas look HUGE in comparison to the newbees. Amazing how quick the grow, huh?

Thank you for doing this for all of these babies! You are wonderful to sacrifice so much time and, I am sure, a piece of your heart each time you take them in to be adopted! The world needs more people like you!

And you go Bill and Hoyt!

Awwww, new babies! You guys are the best. πŸ™‚

Might I suggest 30 Rock or Big Bang Theory names for this batch? πŸ™‚

I think they would be called lynx-point…

I wish I was there to help you feed them! The one with the milk on his mouth looks like he is asking for more!

I too can’t figure out why they never land on my doorstep. sigh

    Love them for me, O.K.?

  13. Amy & The House of Cats says:

Well, you realize that you are just extra lucky – no one ever brings kittens to my doorstep! Although I do get lucky at the vets pretty often (or am I also carrying a big sign that says “sucker” on it)! I just wish they were all girls – they would have been great truck stop naming kitties.

I totally had a great idea for a future kitty name the other day and cannot remember it at all. I can’t even think of any good groups of 5 to take names from at the moment, so I don’t really have any good suggestions for you. I do like the suggestion of a Big Bang Theory batch, but the girl/boy ratio doesn’t work with this group (unless you don’t mind girls with boys names). 30 Rock could work since there are 2 girls plus one guy with a boy/girl name (Tracy). I had a hard enough time naming Barney (went through TV shows I watch – luckily I only had to get to Monday for Barney – I actually did consider names from The Big Bang Theory though).

The newbies are so cute though – and the Wonka’s are adorable as always, as are the others. I love Terry giving Elwood a bath. I wonder – when you take the next two to the store, will 3 more appear?

Oh, just thought of a good 5 suggestion – the Simpsons – Marge, Lisa, Maggie, Homer and Bart. Right boy/girl ration and everything!

Aha! So the rumbling sound I heard yesterday was “the distant laughter of God” as the kittens were making their way to your doorstep! They are adorable and oh so tiny…I haven’t decided yet, but I think I’m falling in love with the black and white one already…*whispers* “don’t worry Veruca, you are still my number 1 love”…speaking of Veruca, maybe you should feed her more often, since she always seems to be “chomping” on somebody in the photos…just sayin’… πŸ™‚

As for Bill and Hoyt, cracked me up imagining them ganging up on poor Sander! Guess they know how to stick up for themselves! Be nice boys, maybe he just wants to play πŸ™‚

Glad all the others are doing well! They sure are growing!

Holy freakin’ Methuselah! You barely had time to take a deep breath! But you’re right, you really had no choice but to take in the tiny newbies. They couldn’t be in better hands.

And yes, those light siamese-y ones look like lynx points. Like my Iris.

  18. Dan says:

Yes, you may take my order. I will have a Mike, a Veruca, the little Holstein in the middle, and three of the tabby points. To go. Oh, and a large Coke for the road trip, too. Thanks!

They are so very precious! I’ve just reached the final stages of weaning off my three. Early on I couldn’t WAIT to be at this stage. Now I miss getting up at three in the morning to cuddle the kittens. You’ve got to be a little nuts to foster kittens πŸ˜‰

I haven’t visited in a little while, and was amazed at just how good the True Blood 6 look. You’d never guess they’d had problems with their eyes.

My heart is just breaking for the day when Terry and Sookie leave the homestead. I just can’t imagine a day without True Blood news, especially from Terry! *sob*

I adore the new kittens. I’d snatch up the light colored kitties in a heartbeat if I lived closer.

    More babies!!! Yay!

Gus is totally Cosmo Kramer. That picture is perfect for the comparison, too. Love it.

For names… can’t wait to see what you all come up with. They’re always such cute names.

Oh, and hi Terry and Sookie!

    Me, too.

Catfancy: They weren’t adopted last night during adoption hours, unfortunately. Sometimes this happens, they just sit for a little while, and then all get snapped up at once. I’m hoping this weekend will be lucky for them!

So sad that the little ones lost their mother so early. πŸ™ We’re glad that you were able to take them in and take care of them!

Looks like everyone is doing great!
