Winnie sent me this picture last week, and I meant to share it, but then got distracted by something shiny.
Say hello to the kitty who birthed Paul Simon and Garfunkel, PLUS Winnie’s fosters ZigZag, Zoomer, Zypher and Zenith, AND ALSO the Swimmers.
Girlfriend is hanging up her dancing shoes! She’s been spayed and vaccinated, ear-tipped (to indicate that she’s been spayed), and released. She’ll have people caring for her, and doesn’t have to birth another kitten, ever. Isn’t that awesome?

“On my kitteh honor, I did NOT bite my sister on her butt (very hard)!”
Calabash, paws and tiny teef. She looks amused, doesn’t she?
Calabash has a skeptical. (Or she’s getting sleepy… but I prefer to think she’s having a skeptical.)
“Hi hi innernets! Hi!” Louganis (and Pattypan).
Drinking water is tiring, so Zuke needed a rest.
Louganis, sacked out on the floor.
Louganis again. He’s one tired boy!
Zuke would like you to know that my foot is awfully comfy.

All those sleeping kitten pics made me need a nap. I’ve been up late the last couple of nights. Like, midnight late! Back in my night owl days that wasn’t so late, but these days it’s REALLY late.
If YOU were up late last night and on Facebook or Instagram, you might know what I’m about to say. You might have seen this picture:
Susan sent out an email late last week asking if anyone could take two bottle babies. I dithered about it, finally decided that at only a few days old they wouldn’t take up much room, and by the time they needed more room to run around, the Swimmers and the Squash Bugs would be near ready to head off to Petsmart. So I emailed her and told her that I hoped someone else had already taken them, but if not, I would.
Saturday evening, she delivered them to me.
Their estimated date of birth is August 31, which makes them a week old. Their eyes aren’t open yet, but they should in a few more days.
They’re tiny – less than 7 ounces – but feisty. They’re in GREAT shape, and they’re eating well. Their story is that they were found near a steam vent, apparently abandoned by their mother.
We think the brown tabby is a boy and the black kitten is a girl. We’ll double-check in a few days to be sure. I’ve already got names in mind, but y’all feel free to suggest any that strike your fancy – I can always add them to the lengthy list of names I have saved!
(And after bottle feeding 8 kittens, 2 is like a walk in the park.)

2014: No entry.
2013: Norbie, stressin’ again.
2012: “String, I luff you.”
2011: I hope you weren’t trying to swear Sunday afternoon, because we were using up all the profanities.
2010: They were distinctly underwhelmed.
2009: When a kitten falls asleep on you, it’s bad luck to wake them up.
2008: No entry.
2007: Wherein Stinkerbelle becomes a permanent resident.
2006: No entry.
2005: Good thing for him he’s so cute.
Maybe it’s due to the fact I haven’t had breakfast yet (although, hello cute little nibbly ears…), but seeing how they were found near a steam vent, all I can think of is Bubble and Squeak (the English dish). I don’t know. I guess it’s the sound the steam makes as it heats up the veg. Or this stupid heat is making me mushy-brained.
Regardless, those little morsels are just the cutest little marshmallows! Would you look at how well-behaved they are with their bottles?
And all those belly shots of the Squash Bugs and the Swimmers…I hope you’re taking advantage of it and giving them raspberries.
Bubble and Squeak are awesome names!! I second those!
Just don’t name the girl Bubble and call her Bubbles or she might wind up being a pole dancer 😀
Bubble and Squeak are the cutest names EVEH! I also thought of Steam and Punk but now I don’t like them as much. Although, a group of little 80’s sit-com show names would be cute. You could collectively call them the “Throwbacks”. Names likes Blossom, Punky Brewster, Blair (from Facts of Life), Mork and Mindy, Potsy, Richie, or Fonzie (from Happy Days)…OMG this theme is TOO funny!! 🙂
but Bubbles is completely okay if there is a Blossom and a Buttercup.
I like Bubble and Squeak too
More bottle babies! Steam vent, huh? All I got is “Train” and “Riverboat.”
My thought when seeing the Calabash “skeptical/sleepy” photo: she looks like she’s saying, “B–ch, I am fabulous!” or “Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful.”
My brain went to another definition of STEAM – the science and engineering acronym. Lots of great scientist names – Fermi and Curie came immediately to mind.
oh good gravy. My brain is somewhere in a puddle around my shoes. You are a warrior, woman. XD I like the Scientist idea.
Two new arrivals! The tabby is going to be gorgeous. Newtles is looking like a fat old man. 🙂 Love starting my morning looking at the beebees. And happy for the mama cat that can retire peacefully, go back to her stomping grounds without all the mating drama.
For some reason, steam vent made me think of Marilyn Monroe in “some Like It Hot” (I think?) – the famous shot of her in the white dress billowing up as she stands on the steam vent. So Marilyn for the girl and Dimaggio for the boy? Since he loved her so much and I’m sure the shelter has already had every possible variation of Joe.
I also love that you and Fred are doing the summer of bottle babies and sharing them with us!
The Seven Year Itch was the movie-and that is exactly where my mind went when I heard steam vent!! If Robyn wanted to follow this chain of thought, she could do Marilyn and Billy-for Billy Wilder the director. I do like DiMaggio too!
or you can name the girl Marilyn and the boy Monroe
Mama doesn’t look too happy about all the effort put in on her behalf, does she? Quite the tortie stinkeye going on! Rather like the look I get when I leave for work from mine.
My mind went straight to Dick and Jane. It will be no time before you could say things like… “Look Dick! See Jane run!” (children’s books for you young whippersnappers) Jack and Jill have probably been taken.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Don’t know why but Sonny and Cher popped into my head. They are adorable.
Found by a steam vent. A boy and a girl.
I’d say name them “The Steampunks.” My favorite steampunk comic imagines two computer pioneers in a steampunk setting. So, the boy is “Babbage” (after Charles Babbage, the inventor of the first computer) and the girl is “Lovelace” (after Ada Lovelace, the first computer programmer).

Always seemed incongruous to me that she was the daughter of Lord Byron.
Having just come from Dragoncon, steampunk names for these two just fits.
Oh two new babies on the anniversary of Charlie and Patty Peppers turning up! Coincidence? I think not!! 🙂
I am so glad that our fave baby mama is getting fixed so no more babies. Don’t get me wrong, she makes great babies, but enough.
Somehow an appropriate Labor Day post.
Hi all…. How about the names of the two new kittens be Starsky & Hutch? Hope I spelled them right.
Sadly, those names have been used….
Kitten name free association!
Steam Vent > Steampunk > Girl Genius > The Geniuses
Agatha
Gilgamesh
Tarvek
Zeetha
Krosp
Lucrezia
Klaus
Bill
Barry
DuPree
Although if the end up being a boy and girl, The Wonder Twins, Zan and Jayna, are pretty appropriate. 😉
My brain went straight to Frick and Frack. Then Thing 1 and Thing 2. Heee
I also like Jen and Kira from The Dark Crystal.
