If you’ve noticed that Reverb doesn’t do a whole lot aside from sitting around looking miserable…

It’s because he has wet FIP. He was diagnosed with it when he went to the vet last week. Late Monday I noticed that though his upper respiratory stuff seemed a bit better, suddenly his stomach was HUGE. If I didn’t know he was a neutered male, I’d have thought he was a pregnant female. So off to the vet he went, and I was not surprised to find out that it was wet FIP.

I have not had a foster with FIP, but we lost Elwood to it 13 years ago. It’s not the death sentence it used to be – there’s now treatment for it. We started meds immediately – which means he’s been on them for a week – and while he doesn’t look/act that much better, the course of treatment for FIP is 84 days (12 weeks), so it’s early days yet.

Michelle has treated many cats/kittens for FIP and is supervising and answering my questions.

Fortunately, when Reverb was diagnosed with FIP we already had medication on hand so were able to get him started the day he was diagnosed. Why’d we already have meds on hand?

Because we’re also treating Rum for FIP.

Rum saw the vet on New Year’s Eve (what a FUN holiday season we had this year), and started his first dose on January 2nd. So he’s had 10 days of FIP meds, and he is doing a lot better. He’s meeting me at the door again, following me around, and playing with his brother.

And doin’ the Rumdangle, of course.

Both cats are eating well – never stopped eating well – thankfully. I’m not at all worried about Rum – he’s doing great. Reverb is sicker but is surprisingly strong and stubborn, so I am very hopeful for them both.

I’m not going to go into an explanation of what FIP is and how it’s treated because the information is out there, provided by people who know far more about it than I do. This video is interesting (and informative), Kitten Lady has a video, and there are multiple helpful groups on the internet – there’s a list on this page of various Facebook pages. The information is out there, you just have to look for it.

(The other kittens are not at risk of developing FIP just from being around Rum and Reverb. And Martini’s bloodwork did not indicate FIP.)

Khal may not look like it, but he loves me. He DOES!

May I offer you a Spritz pie (my favorite!) to start your day?

🎉 Former fosters Mambo and Fancy (formerly Flamenco) look SO happy and content, don’t they? Lisa (whose parents adopted them) reports that they’re definitely bonded now – if they lose track of each other for too long, they’ll go looking for the other. (Awww!) And also a former foster – calico Arwen (formerly Arundel when we fostered her in 2018) is one happy lovebug. ❤️ (I don’t think I mentioned this, but Lisa’s parents adopted Mambo and Fancy, and Lisa has three of our former fosters – Arwen, Ellie (formerly Eliot), and Batman. So that makes Mambo and Fancy… aunt and uncle to Arwen, Ellie, and Batman? 🙃 (I don’t know why that cracks me up, but it does!)

“Churu can happen any time, lady,” says Reverb.

In case you were worried, former fosters Mambo & Fancy (formerly Flamenco) do not lack for toys or enrichment opportunities… spoiled rotten, they are, and I love it! (There’s no sound to this video – I muted it so that you wouldn’t get caught up in trying to figure out what they were watching instead of watching Mambo & Fancy play, like I did! 🙂 ) (Thanks Fred & Lisa!)

Fizz and Reese check out the view.

Good night innernets. (Whiskey, Reverb & Reese.)

Poor Reverb, i was wondering about him and how tough it seemed to get improvement, i was sending love to his poor watery eyes every time he was in a photo. Glad you’ve got an answer even if it’s a tough one, i hope he started to feel better soon and i hope he and Rum make it easy for you to delivery medicine!

Oh goodness, poor Reverb and Rum (and you!)! I have to admit, I caught my breath when I read FIP, though I know medicine, as the Kitten Lady said, has come a miraculously long way to curing it. So are you doing shots or pills and are the boys good patients?

Yes, I was wondering if there’s an alternate to the shots yet. When I first heard of the treatment (many years sgo), the shots were almost intolerable for some kitties. Very painful and every day for those 84 days!

FIP sucks so hard! I lost my Bunny girl to it several years ago. I’m so glad there is treatment available now that isn’t black market.

So sorry to hear the worrying news about sweet Reverb and little Rum – but glad to know that there is now treatment to help kitties with this nasty condition. My heart goes out to you, knowing the anguish you will be feeling about this. But they could not be in better hands, with your devoted care, and Michelle’s support and experience in helping cats through this. Glad that Rum seems to be doing well already, and so much hope that the treatment will quickly help lovely Reverb to start feeling better. Holding you, and them, and all the furry gang in loving prayer. xx

Those FIP drugs are nothing short of a miracle; I’ve seen multiple cats brought back from the brink of death with them. Sending love and healthy thoughts to Reverb, Rum, and you!

Thank you LISA for the former foster update.

Love seeing those furry babies so smug and snug. We need more videos and photos though
