To answer the question several of you have had lately: I don’t know when we’ll have kittens again. First of all, we’re still settling in. Secondly, someone needs to fix this mess:

I am the one who needs to finish putting that room together, but my motivation level is hovering around zero at the moment. But that’s okay, because most importantly, this mess needs to be dealt with:

Carpet needs to be replaced by hardwood, walls need to be repainted, and most of the racks need to be removed (I’ll leave the rack around the top), because that’s where litter boxes will go. Also, the door to the room (it’s a pocket door; this house is lousy with them, which I LOVE) needs to be straightened. All of that will happen, but not at once. I initially told Fred that I wanted the room ready by the end of January, but I’m thinking mid-February is more likely.

WE’LL GET ‘EM WHEN WE GET ‘EM, is what I’m saying. Be patient, it’ll happen eventually!

PS: See in that second picture, where there’s a gap between the built-in cabinet to the left, and the built-in desk to the right? There will be a small couch there and I am VERY excited by that. I had initially wanted a futon, but the space measures 60 inches across, and I wasn’t able to find a futon that would fit the space since they’re all wider than that. Instead, there will be a small couch.

To answer another question that many people have asked: yes, the screened porch has pet screen in it. We ordered it from Amazon (it took all of one roll and about 20 feet from a second roll). The screen door we had at the bottom of the stairs at Crooked Acres had pet screen on the bottom and regular screen on the top, and you could really tell the difference. Also, Challenger’s House has a screened porch at the shelter, and despite heavy usage for 10+ years, the screen looks pretty much untouched. None of our cats have challenged the screen yet, but I don’t think it’s going to be a problem.

No, not Kara – the quilt! My mother made me a quilt, and I had no idea it was coming. Isn’t it beautiful? Check out the other side:

  1. The new quilt is GORGEOUS! Your mom’s skills are amazing. And you take your time getting the house the way you (and the cats) want it. The kittens will be there for you.

  2. I love the new quilt, I wish I never gave it up (internet might have something to do with that)! I LOVE the pic with Tommy, Sugarbutt and Joe Bob . And there will be plenty of time for kittens, we can wait!

  4. Yes, the quilt is gorgeous. A family treasure for sure. I do have a question about the bed frame in the guest room. Is that an Eastlake antique piece? It looks similar to an Eastlake bed I had. Just curious.

  9. I love the flipside of that quilt and would totally put it on my bed with THAT side up! (even with the spermies swimmin’ on it, lol… it took me a dang minute to realize they were balls of yarn!)

  10. That quilt is great and so is the wall hanging quote. I’m thinking that if we start sending you stuff like quilts and wall hangings, you will have to tidy up in order to display them properly. Tee hee!

  12. You have a fantastic mother and sister, Robyn! And I adore that photo of Tommy, Sugarbutt and Joe Bob. What happy, beloved boys they were! You and Fred have already made great inroads on getting Shady Cove into an Anderson-ideal home, so a bit of skiving off is more than allowed…

  13. The quilt is so beautiful! And I think I need that plaque…. The house will come together – we know it takes time, and when the kittens get here, it will be perfect!

  18. Oh, the quilt is beautiful – – both sides of it! It would be tough for me to decide which to display! The plaque is perfect as well and the picture of those three boys… made my heart flutter. They are all still very fondly remembered each and every day – including how Sugarbutt got the name! Those were the days! I am loving your new house and am both envious while being motivated to get some things done at my house – stealing ideas that I see in your pictures… “Bloom where you’re planted”! We will wait for kittens and know that it will be perfect when they come; meanwhile, I will live vicariously (while stealing ideas) of all and any photos you share of your new abode! Still loving it and I’m still excited for you!!!

  20. The pet screen at the shelter is on its 18th year. Still in near perfect shape. No rips or tears.

  23. Thanks for the pet screen info., when and if we ever get around to having a screened in porch I’ll know just what to get.

    That picture of the threesome on the counter made me swoon a bit. They’re so small and so happy with their tales up in the air like that. Love.

    Another question, I went to Cafepress but didn’t find the items you’ve sold there before. My husband accidently broke my Stompers shot glass. Is there any chance I’d still be able to get one somewhere?

  24. I love the quilt – so pretty – but I DEMAND to know where your sister got that plaque, because I want one SO HARD.

  27. The quilt is spectacular and the plaque fits in perfectly.
    I have a love seat and matching ottoman. The love seat opens to a single bed and the ottoman opens for storage. I don’t get a lot of overnight guests but it’s handy and remarkably comfy.
    I’m jonesing for kittens too but pictures of the new house and permanent residents helps. Also nice to get a recap and bio of the gang for those of us who came late to the party. LOVE the catio! Thanks Robyn & Fred.
