I kept putting that plastic “crown” on Daisy’s head and she’d shake it off her head before I could take a picture. Finally she decided she was done with my shenanigans, and picked it up and wouldn’t let me take it from her. SO MEAN. (But look how pleased she is.)

Jay and Zelda were trying to climb the wall of the crate, and Myrtle was critiquing their form. “This is terrible form – STRAIGHTEN those legs!”

Nick following Mama around.

Myrtle’s all “Hiiii Mama!”

Mama hugs are the best. Look at Myrtle’s little smile.

Myrtle heads for the litter box. In the background, Nick checks the structural integrity of the crate while Jay looks on from inside the crate.

Zelda eyes the milk bar.

And then gets sassy with Daisy!

Nick checks out the stairs to the litter box. (None of the kittens need these stairs, the litter boxes are short enough that they can easily get in and out, but I like to have them there just in case.)

Nick at the milk bar, Jay and Zelda snuggled up for a nap. (Myrtle was in the crate, I think.)

The kittens spent most of the weekend out of the crate, occasionally returning to nap or just check it out. I suspect in another day or two, they’ll abandon it completely. They’re migrating along the back wall of the foster room – where I have the couch this time around – and are interested in the couch, the bed in front of it, the ham-mick and are starting to check out the toys. I wish they’d go along the side of the foster room, where I put all the cat trees, because I think they’d like to do some climbing. (I’m sure they’ll get over that way eventually. I did move the small blue cat tree so that it’s next to the couch. They’re ignoring it so far, but I know at some point I’ll walk into the room and find all four of them asleep on it.)

Charlie supervises his domain. (This picture is from January, I think. The back yard is a lot greener now.)

He’s like “What doin’, lady?”

Zelda gets her face washed… and apparently wants some more!

Oh look, Myrtle’s giving me attitude. I guess I better kiss her another 7,000 times.

There’s a whole lotta tussling and exploring going on in the foster room right now. (They spend a lot of time out of the crate, but if they’re sleepy or hear an unfamiliar noise, they go back to the crate; it’s their safe space.)

Nick was pretty darn thrilled to discover that he no longer has to wait for the milk bar to come to him, and now he’s all about that post-crate life. (Daisy: also quite thrilled, clearly.)

Zelda, as it turns out, is quite the little lapkitten.

Good night innernets. (From the Crate Catsbys)

Have I mentioned that Nick is OVER THE MOON about the fact that he can stomp on over to the milk bar whenever he wants?

It’s so hard when you wanna play but two of your slacker siblings just keep on sleepin’. (From left: Nick, Myrtle, Zelda & Jay)

Myrtle does a little dance/race around the crate, shows Nick (who is sleeping) who the boss is, and just generally acts silly. She’s such a funny girl.

Good night innernets. (Jay, Nick and Myrtle. Zelda is in the other corner of the crate, off-camera.)

Look who’s 4 weeks old today! Look at those bright eyes.

In the past week, everyone has left the crate, though they return to it to sleep sometimes, and it’s their safe space if they hear a strange noise. I put out the litter boxes, and have witnessed Zelda and Myrtle use them (the boys may have used them also, but I haven’t seen it happening myself, so I can’t swear to that.) In the next week, they’ll likely start showing interest in the food mama is eating, will hopefully discover the cat trees, and may even abandon the crate completely. Their weights are below, and below that are links to their whole weight spreadsheet, and to the spreadsheet where their weights are listed in comparison to previous litters.

Myrtle: 21.5 oz/ 609.51 g (birth weight: 4.76 oz/ 134.94 g)
Nick: 22.8 oz/ 646.37 g (birth: 5.01 oz/ 142.03 g)
Zelda: 19.8 oz/ 561.32 g (birth: 4.87 oz/ 138.06 g)
Jay: 22.4 oz/ 635.03 g (birth: 5.08 oz/ 144.02 g)

As mentioned earlier, the kittens are showing interest in the litter boxes. I hadn’t seen Jay use the litter box yet, just the girls, and so he decided it was time to show me his skills. Such a smart boy!

Myrtle is just a crazy, crazy girl. Even her siblings are like “Whoo. Don’t get too close to Myrtle, she’ll take you OUT.”

4-kitten pie! My favorite!… Wait, come back! (The days where they’d stay where I put them have very definitely come to an end.)

The kittens tussling, in and around the crate… and then Myrtle gets a hug from Mama. That’s right, a hug. Daisy totally was NOT about to bunny-kick her daughter into calming the heck down. She’d NEVER.

Zelda is the queen of the litter box, in case you wondered.

Good night innernets. (Nick)
