We have a lights-on, no-one-home situation going on here with Owen.

Owen’s sliding through the scratcher tunnel, and Nolan says “Mama says when someone’s in the tunnel, you gotta poke ’em!”

Sweet girl.
I put the mushroom scratcher by the couch so they can use it to get down. Sometimes (as here) they use it. Sometimes, they just fling themselves to the floor.
“Sometimes we is in a hurry!” says Nolan.

Khal says “Look how good I am! I didn’t want to get your blanket all covered in cat fur*, so I moved down the bed and am lying on the comforter!”
*That blanket is there SPECIFICALLY so all the Khal and Charlie fur won’t get all over the comforter. Ah well.

These three are 6 weeks old (as of yesterday)! They are finally starting to eat solid food (but just a little. They haven’t decided what they think of it yet, so they’re still being bottle fed), are climbing, and continue to do great with their litter box usage (in fact, they’re climbing into the big litter boxes now.) This week, Owen’s the heaviest of the three, and Patsy’s still the lightest. You can see their weight chart right here.
Yes okay FINE, he’s not a permanent residents – he’s a neighborhood freeloader – but I SUPPOSE I’ve gotta do a post about Rocco, don’t I?
Name: Rocco
Nickname: YOU BETTER GET OUT OF HERE WITH THAT MOUSE, SON
Date of birth (guesstimated) : November 7, 2020.
Loves: Food. Fred. Hunting mice and birds and all manners of small animals. Lounging on the porch and on one of his THREE beds in the garage. Sitting in any window he can in hopes that someone will let him in to stroll through the house looking for food.
Tolerates: Me. Most things.
Dislikes: Strangers, other cats in the neighborhood. Thinks Charlie and Khal are very rude.
Rocco showed up on our property in late 2021 (we moved here in July of 2021, so THAT didn’t take long) along with a young calico-ish cat we named Trixie. They were both young and skinny and Fred worried that they weren’t being cared for, so started putting food and water out for them. BAFFLINGLY, they then stuck around.
It became clear over time that they belonged to someone in the neighborhood, but we opted not to find out who they belonged to so that when we had them spayed and neutered (YOU’RE DING DANG SKIPPY WE DID) we could claim that we didn’t know they had owners.
Since leaving food on the front porch was bringing all manners of animals to our front porch, what’d we do? Why, we had them microchipped so that we could buy a cat door that works with microchips, so that they could eat safely in our garage. Then we put heated beds in the garage for them. (You can read “we” as “Fred.”)
Sometime in early 2024, the unneutered bully cat who lived across the street and down a few houses (I called him Moby) was no longer around (he was pretty old), and without a second look Trixie told us where we could stick it, and moved in over there. Rocco opted to hang around here (mostly) though he visits Trixie(‘s food dish) occasionally. On the rare occasion I see Trixie and speak to her, she says “I DON’T KNOW YOU” and hurries along her way.
Rocco’s still here most of the time. He wanders through the house – accompanied by Fred – once or twice a day.
Rocco weighs a little over 15 pounds. He used to weigh more, but WE PUT HIM ON A DIET.
