Also, for those of you who are new (or those who like remembering) check out the 2012 link. It contains the most adorable, “scary” story about Caspian meeting a stranger.

I always love re-reading that one!

Where did you get the tall cat scratchers in your room, or are they home-made?

Those are the Smartcat Ultimate scratching posts – link for reference – with the Smartcat perch attached at the top – link for reference. The perch comes with a pad attached, but it sucks because it’s attached with some flimsy Velcro, so I bought a Berber carpet sample and attached it with Gorilla glue. Also, the perch tends to slide off – it’s attached with flimsy plastic – so Fred made them permanently attached by screwing them into the top. So they’re not homemade, but they kinda are!

I think Nolan may have swimmer’s syndrome. You may want to take a longer look at his back legs. To me they look like they’re not holding him up the way they should at this stage.

I’ve been watching him, and I’m not convinced he has Swimmers – or if he does, it’s a very mild case. He’s gotten better at getting his feet under him, though one tends to kick out to the side. We dealt with Swimmers Syndrome last year with Pita and Ciabatta, and their case was pretty obvious. I’m going to keep an eye on him, and if need be we’ll get the tape out.

Margarita was staring at the ceiling fan. “Has that always been there?”

Sebastian was considering a nap.

I went off to do something, and when I came back…

Uncle Charlie was checking out their food bowl.

Margarita was in the tent.

“Oh, hi Uncle Charlie,” said Sebastian.

And Margarita gave him the ol’ snifferoo.

They’re pretty interested in the permanent residents, but don’t engage much with them. Alice will hiss and smack at them, Khal hisses at them, and Charlie will sniff back, but then tries to play in his own way, and it kind of freaks them out since he’s so much bigger than they are.

Speaking of size, I weighed Sebastian and Margarita yesterday – it had been a while – and found that Sebastian now weighs 3.5 pounds/1.59 KG and Margarita is just 2 oz/57 g bigger. I think it won’t be long before he’s the bigger kitten. They’ve come a long way!

Owen in my lap, post bottle.

Lilia joins in.

Patsy’s saving that formula for later.

(I don’t get too concerned about cleaning their faces after I’ve fed them, because Lilia’s happy to do it. A little snack!)

Nolan and the face of “I DON’T WANT YOUR DING DANG FORMULA.”

Patsy and Owen are all about the formula life, but Nolan just is NOT interested. But he’s still the biggest kitten and gaining well so I’m not going to worry about it. Honestly, Lilia’s tummy is so flat – I’m used to seeing full milk sacs on nursing mamas – that I’m not sure how much milk she’s producing, but it’s enough to keep Nolan fed and to supplement Patsy and Owen, so like I said: I’m not going to worry.

From left: Owen, Patsy and Nolan.

Owen and Patsy will come out of the crate, but Nolan hasn’t come out on his own yet. I’m sure it won’t be long (and I’m sure he would if I put a blanket there for him to step out on to, but I don’t want to encourage the behavior. They’re too little! Stay in the crate, babies!)

Patsy’s face kills me. Such an expressive little girl!

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr/ Bluesky) yesterday.

Well, now that he figured out how to do it, Owen leaves the crate every time I go in to feed them. If I put him back in the crate (so I can feed Patsy), he comes right back out, climbs up into my lap, rolls around and let me rub his belly, and then we have a snuggle.

🎉 Former foster🎉 Darth (formerly Gustavo). Gricelda reports that “He is sweet. Our very own cowardly lion. Does not like change. Our largest cat. He thinks he is the size of a newborn kitten.” Look how SWEET he is! ❤️ (Thanks Gricelda!)

A few people have asked about the kittens’ fur, and the creases or lines on their noses.

I don’t think their fur will stay silvery, I think that’s what’s known as a stress coat or fever coat (I don’t think they know for certain, but believe it’s caused when a pregnant cat experiences stress or fever. It’s not permanent – both Margarita and Matilda from the Britty Bunch litter had fever coats, and they’re no longer silvery.)

There’s what looks like a white line or crease across all three of the kittens’ noses. I believe it’s just caused by the fur on their foreheads and fur on their noses growing in different directions – I can’t feel any kind of indentation or divot, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens as they grow up.

Also, surprise! Patsy has eyes!

Okay, so I guess I won’t leave the pots on the floor anymore (and will give that one a good washing before I use it again!) Thanks for pointing that out, Sebastian. (Also, Margarita and her big “I told him not to!” eyes are cracking me UP.)

Napping with Sebastian and Margarita, who are excellent napping companions. (Also, Sebastian and Margarita are adoption pending and will go home the week after next!)

Patsy is milk drunk, and Nolan makes a comfy bed.

Good night innernets. (Margarita & Sebastian)
