Dennis

Date of birth: (guesstimated) 10/14/13

Nicknames: Denny-bug, Denny-butt, Denny-mini

Likes: Snuggling. Waking me up at 6 am because he’s STARVING. Rolling around on his back while you rub his belly. Chasing Alice. Playing with Jake. Leaping up after the feather teaser and racing around after the laser light. Catching cicadas and bringing them into the house. Litter box policing (he likes to make sure everything is super well-covered.)

Dislikes: Being cornered by the two humans in the house (he knows nothing good will ever come from that.) Having eye boogers removed.

Dennis started out as one of our fosters – he was found near a feral feeding colony, but was clearly not feral. He was tested and neutered and was at the shelter for a while, but needed more socializing, so he came here at the end of January to join the rest of The Players. He started out as a very scared scaredy-cat, didn’t want to be approached, didn’t want to be picked up, JUST LEAVE ME ALONE, LADY. He got along great with the other kittens, and eventually he started warming up to the humans.

Dennis was all ready to go off to Petsmart, but when he got there (sharing a cage with the other Players), he freaked out so badly after a couple of hours that I had to go right back and pick him up and bring him home. Once we got him home, he was A-OK, because he is a bratty little faker.

I tried to find a home for him – lord knows I TRIED – but in the end, we realized that there was nothin’ doin’, and he was meant to be here with us. You can read the post announcing that he was becoming a permanent resident here.

He gets along great with other cats and is enthusiastic about meeting new cats we bring into the house, even if the new cats aren’t thrilled about meeting him. He’s a food hog, and if there’s a new food to be eaten, he’s first in line to give it a try. His favorite time of day is when we bring all the cats inside before bed and give them their nightly treats. His other favorite time of day is when I roll out of bed in the morning and give them their snack of canned food (if he thinks I’m sleeping too late, he’ll jump up on the bed next to me, and roll around on his back until I wake up and get up.) He loves being outside and running around the back yard, and has recently proven his cicada hunting skills.
