Sweet Margarita. She’s keeping an eye on me, all “You’re not going to kiss me, are you?” SURE AM, get used to it, kid.

A box o’ Sebastian.

Sebastian and Margarita were hanging out in the sunshine while Alice looked on disapprovingly.

Owen would like you to know that Nolan makes an excellent pillow.

I love how Patsy’s rolling around with her feet in the air over there on the right.

Lilia was trying to decide whether to stay where she was or go back to her food dish. (She ultimately opted to stay where she was.)

In case you missed it, Nolan has eyeballs now.

Lilia in my lap. She is such a snuggly girl! (She never stays long, though – once the kittens make a noise, she goes right over to check on them.)

As mentioned up there, Nolan’s eyes are open. Owen’s eyes have been open since he was about 5 days old. I can see that Patsy’s eyes are loosening a bit, but for now she’s keeping them closed. This is, indeed, a little late for kittens’ eyes to open (they’re usually open by 2 weeks), but as always, kittens do things at their own pace. Her eyes aren’t swollen or bulging under those eyelids and there’s no drainage, so I’m not worried about an infection.

Ironically, while her eyes aren’t open, she’s always the first one to the door of the crate when I come into the room. In the past week, it’s become clear that Lilia isn’t producing enough milk so I’ve started supplementing the kittens every three hours. Patsy took to the bottle (actually, it’s a syringe) like a duck to water, while – at least initially – the boys acted like I was trying to poison them. As of a few days ago, while the boys won’t latch, they do let me dribble formula into their mouths. I’m getting enough into them so that between the formula and whatever milk they’re getting from Lilia, they’re gaining weight better than they were.

Normal 2 week old kittens generally weigh 150 – 350 grams (5.3-12.3 ounces) and these three weigh (as of yesterday) 218 g/7.69 oz (Owen), 243 g/8.57 oz (Patsy) and 251 g/8.85 oz (Nolan), so they’re solidly within normal range.

Usually, as long as you keep a mother cat fed, she’ll produce milk. However, Lilia is eating plenty: I feed her canned food 5 times a day and she almost always eats it all. I’m also offering her a bowl of formula when I feed the kittens, and sometimes she’ll drink a little and sometimes she won’t. She is producing SOME milk, just not enough to keep the kittens gaining weight. It would be lovely if she kept producing at least some milk, but if not that’s fine. We’ll figure it out. At least she’s caring for them well so I don’t have to potty them!

I feel like Charlie would be willing to cuddle if Alice would go for it, while Alice is all “If I don’t look at him, he’s not there.” (Picture taken by Fred last week.)

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr/ Bluesky) yesterday.

Look at Margarita’s grumpy little face. “Why is there SO MUCH laundry, lady? I’ll be folding for days!”

If you were curious, it appears that Arlo (formerly Nigel) and Emmylou (formerly Matilda) continue their lapkitten ways! (Thanks, Bethany!)

Conversation with Lilia, wherein I ask her all the deep, hard-hitting questions. She’s a good interview!

When I share a picture or video of the Alphabet Soup Gang kittens without Lilia present in the crate, she’s usually eating – but sometimes she’s getting herself a snort of the ol’ catnip banana.

YouTube link
A conversation with Margarita wherein we determine that she is (1) a cute girl, (2) very sweet, (3) da BAYbee, but the jury is out on whether she’s a cutie-cute. (I suspect the answer to that one is “yes.”)

Sebastian’s all “Lady, GIVE ME that phone, I need to make a call!”

Good night innernets. (From left: Owen, Patsy & Nolan)

We’ve got eyeballs! Owen was the first, then Nolan’s opened all of a sudden. As of yet, Patsy’s decided to keep hers closed (Owen told her “There’s nothing to see but that weird lady. You’re not missing much.” So she’s going to wait a while.)

I left the YouTube page open on my computer and walked away to do something. When I came back, Margarita was getting her Hamilton on. (She’s a fan.)

Tossing toys for Margarita & Sebastian – they’re getting pretty good at jumping (especially Margarita!)

Happy little milk bar. (Nolan and Patsy at the milk bar, Owen wandering around up by Lilia’s head.)

I love it when all three of them are lined up at the milk bar nursing. So peaceful!

Sebastian and (permanent resident) Alice sniffed noses nicely… and then she smacked him.

Good night innernets. (Margarita & Sebastian)

Sebastian and the terribly rough life.

I feel like Nolan is perpetually disappointed in me.

Once again, the very best toy is so close and yet so far!

Post-Churu cleanup. “I clean you, you clean me.”

Your daily dispatch from the milk bar – Patsy gets a bath, then the boys take turns kicking each other. You know, the usual!

Happy little milk bar.
