Okay as the best cat people I know, and a number of you who get cat genetics, I’ve got a question for the Friday post: my new girls are red tabbies, one with white socks, belly and chin. The other is darker red with a tip of a white toe on a back leg. I know reds are only 25% female, and this litter of five had four ginger girls (1 ginger boy). Are there any health issues in this group of red girls (like blue eyes/white is often deaf)??? Any insight appreciated.
I’ve never heard of any health issues in ginger girls – if anyone out there has, please share!

This is not cat-related, but Fred saw this the other night, and we watched it and laughed for about 10 minutes. Even thinking about it makes me laugh! The more you watch it, the funnier it gets, trust me.

I am not ignoring the clamor for pictures of King Nubbs’s nub, I hear that you want to see it, and I’ll see if I can’t get a decent picture of it this weekend to share next week, promise!
The vet opted to amputate the very tip of his tail because it was basically a vertebrae covered in scabs, and the skin wasn’t growing over it the way it should. It already looks 100 times better to me. He’ll go back in 10 days to have the sutures removed – and conveniently, that’s when the whole litter can all get their rabies shots, so that works out well.

Winnie passed along a new toy for the kittens, the All For Paws Interactives butterfly toy. I finally got around to taking it up to the kitten room and turning it on for the kittens, to see what they thought of it.
I set it down and turned it on, and Levine was all “Dude. That’s LOUD and kinda SKEERY.”
Shelton said “I ain’t going over there!”
And Stefani came stomping over, all “WHAT IN TARNATION IS GOING ON OVER HERE?!”
I turned it off so they could get used to it.
“Well, this is interesting,” said Stefani.
“I’ll just watch from here,” said Shelton.
Stefani took a taste.
“That is downright tasty!” she said.
“Kinda fun, as long as you don’t turn it on!”
So I put it away. I’ll give it a try in a couple of days and see if the boys are any less scared of it.

Archie had come upstairs to see if there was anything interesting to eat, and it made the Nubbs nervous.
Apparently the King’s security detail had the day off!

I swear, Archie always looks SO annoyed and like he’s ready to cut you, but he’s actually a total sweetheart.
