ChaCha’s got places to go. (Over to the food bowl, is where she was headed.)
Mambo’s little pink belly is killing me.
Sashay’s considering her next move.
ChaCha walked into the crate and sat down, and kittens started trying to get to the milk bar.
Mambo’s all “I know it was around here somewhere!”
Mambo gets a close-up look at ChaCha’s thlurrrp.
And then he gets the ol’ lickeroo. (Please admire Flamenco’s grumpy little face.)

There was a stinkbug on the outside of the window that had Esmeralda’s attention.
She REALLY wanted to get her paws on that thing, but alas. It got away!

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr/ Bluesky) yesterday.
The Little Dancers are 3 weeks old! Their ears are slowly moving up the sides of their heads, they can hear me (and they’re curious about what I’m saying), they’re getting interested in the idea that there’s life outside the crate, and their first teeth – incisors – are emerging. In the next week they’ll leave the crate, and they’ll most likely start exploring and using the litter boxes (which I will set out for them once they start leaving the crate.)
(Also in the next week and continuing ad infinitum, every kitten-nursing video will be greeted by at least one drive-by “ThOsE KiTtEnS ShOuLd bE WeAnEd” comment.)
Tango has hit the one pound mark – this litter as a whole is right around where the Pops (from earlier this year) and the Crumbs (from last year) were at this age. If you check out the weight spreadsheet, there’s a “comparative weights” tab, where you can see how this litter compares to lots of previous litters.
When I mentioned a few weeks ago that the vet had found a spay tattoo on Esmeralda, there was some interest in the topic. So here’s a shot of her lying on the floor, with a circle around where her tattoo is located – and a close-up of said tattoo. It’s 1 cm (just under 1/2 inch) long. It’s up close to her ribs, and I’d have expected to see it much lower. If she was spayed when she was very small, it’s entirely possible that the tattoo started next to the spay scar and kind of… migrated as she grew and stretched? Maybe? (That’s just a guess on my part.)
In this area, the spay/neuter clinics automatically tattoo cats and dogs who’ve been fixed. I’ve heard that elsewhere they tattoo a symbol on the inside of animals ears – which sounds like it’d be a lot easier to see and wouldn’t require shaving the animal. I don’t, offhand, know of any vets around who perform the tattoos, just the spay/neuter clinics, but it’s certainly possible that some of them do.
(I looked very closely at Esmeralda’s abdomen to see if I could locate her spay scar, and while I don’t see a visible scar, I’m pretty sure I can feel it. Also, her shaved belly is SO SOFT and she didn’t mind me poking around. She’s such a sweet girl!)

Mambo and Flamenco get a bath and a snack while Sashay and Tango keep on snoozin’ in the back of the crate.

I love it when she talks to them. Also, I love that I think I get to have an opinion on whether the kittens should be coming out of the crate yet. If mama wants ’em to come out – they’re gonna come out. She knows it, I know it, y’all know. Mama’s in charge!
While his sisters snooze, Mambo stares at the roof of the crate and thinks Deep Thoughts. (Tango is not in this picture because he was at the front of the crate biting the blanket. Doing important Tango things, in other words.)
The kittens are all sound asleep, so it’s time for ChaCha to get some snuggle time with me.
Good night innernets. (Esmeralda)

Those kittens and their mama are just more adorable every day, and those little faces! A lovely shot of laughs and adorableness this morning with my coffee as usual thaaaaanks 😀
Oops. It’s fixed now, thanks for letting me know!
Very welcome 🙂
Ordered a sweatshirt! Love it! Thanks for providing the link.
Also, from now on, when I’m cranky it shall be known as “feelin’ fangy” thanks Khal!
Orange kitten, deep thoughts.
Is that an oxymoron? So to speak?
And I need a new sweatshirt! Yay!
Thanks for showing Esmeralda’s spay tattoo, I have wondered how noticeable it would be when they get shaved.
Hey, Robyn! A day or so ago, Mister Boogers’ magnificent hate letter to the people of the internets turned up in the Throwbacks of a previous year’s blog post. I laughed the rest of that day, losing my heart to that vivid, quirky, little character. And then inadvertany found how his journey ended. (So deeply sorry for him, you, and Fred.) Is it okay to make a little donation in his honor to FFHSV? I know he was a Challenger cat, but they were LONG before I was introduced to your delightful page.
Either way, It hardly matters. As I said , a small donation. But he was yours, So I want to do as you would wish. Thanks!!
