About
Challenger’s House is a no-kill cat shelter located in North Alabama.
I foster cats for Challenger’s House on a pretty continual basis; this blog is devoted to the cats we foster. I take a lot of pictures of them. A LOT.
I am Robyn Anderson, a 41 year-old crazy cat lady. I live on 4 1/2 acres in an old house, in a tiny town near Decatur, Alabama with my husband, Fred. All cats love Fred, with very little effort on his part. NOT FAIR.
We have seven cats of our own. Okay, we have nine. ::sigh:: Now we have ten (we adopted Kara in the Fall of 2009!) I’m sorry, I mean ELEVEN. Two of them came with the house and we try to pretend they’re not ours, but even we don’t really believe that. (We also have some pigs, turkeys, and a large and ever-fluctuating number of chickens.)
Of the cats we’ve fostered since May of 2005, we’ve only (!) adopted four of them. We’re fighting hitting a double-digit permanent cat population, but I’m not sure we’re going to be successful for much longer.
Foster kitties who come to stay with us generally stay in our foster kitten room, once a bedroom, now dedicated to housing our foster kittens, complete with cat tree, cat toys, and a closet devoted to litter boxes. If they’re here for the long-term and we’re sure they have no bugs to pass along to our cats, we let them out to roam the house at will during the day and put them in the foster kitten room at night. If they’re here for a super long time, we eventually stop putting them in the foster kitten and let them have 24-hour access to the rest of the house.
